Having never been to Tasmania before, we were coming for a month. We have a daughter with special needs, and found Hatchers online which looked great! Our daughter loves animals, and this seemed like a great place for relaxing after days out exploring the state. We checked in easily, and when arriving to our room (St John's Apartment), I thought it was kitschy once I read that the owners had built the hotel about 25 years earlier. I would have expected better quality for the age of the place. It was also REALLY hot in the apartment with no air conditioning down the hallway in the childrens' room. We had a pedestal fan in the hallway trying to blow cold air down to them.

But these were minor things, and we LOVED our stay at Hatchers. The place grew on us the longer we stayed, and we made it work. The staff were lovely, and it was fantastic waking up to the animal noises. All the kids staying loved the farm animals. There was a washing machine we could use (which was great as not everywhere has a washing machine).

We didn't eat at the restaurant - we catered for ourselves in our apartment.

I would recommend Hatchers, and we would happily return next time we visit. Richmond is far enough outside Hobart that it's relaxing and peaceful, but close enough for day trips to Mt Field National Park, Port Arthur or any number of beautiful destinations.

Beautiful olde world rural setting with farm animals and lots of land to wander around. Room was large and comfy and the views were amazing with horses, sheep, chooks and alpacas close up in the paddocks outside the room. Price was reasonable for the room and views. Had dinner in the restaurant and was able to customise the meal to suit which was handy. Hosts and staff were very pleasant and happy to help with any requests or recommendations. Would book again and certainly suits families with young children or people just wanting to get away from it all!

We had to change our accommodation on short notice due to the uncertainity and impacts of COVID-19 at the moment. We had a no cancellation policy and the hosts allowed us to change at no extra cost and were very supportive. Loved our stay and would go back again.

Wow I’ve stayed in some places that were a bit dirty but this takes it to a new level. Hairs in the bed, shower and basin making you wonder if the sheets were even changed? Dangerous cracked tiles on the floor. Crumbs all through the kitchen from past guests.

I’d steer clear of of having dinner too. When you hear beeping from
a microwave constantly it’s a bit of a worry.

I’m not a fussy person but when you don’t want to take a shower or your shoes off or even get in bed we certainly weren’t staying another night.

Save your money.

Booked what I thought was a two bedroom suite. It was one bedroom with two beds in the lounge. Neither space had a wardrobe. There was a little silver 'stick' for hanging in the bedroom, no hangers were provided until we asked. The owners did provide a free standing clothes rack for my friend who was in the lounge. The place was probably lovely in the beginning, nice looking buildings and out buildings and a good location, but it has been neglected over the years. There is a restaurant on site but we were not game to try it though other reviewers seem to have liked it.

A huge disappointment to finish our holiday in Tasmania. We thought we were spoiling ourselves. We even considered moving elsewhere but at Christmas holiday time there was no chance of that. Even the outside area was less than inviting so we couldn't sit out there to welcome in the new year. It is dated, run down, not as clean as it could be, the yards need weeding, pruning and general attention. Even the kitchenette wasn't as well prepared as it should have been, we even had to ask for a second wine glass! Glad we had our own cutting board and a sharp knife. We should have been warned as soon as we drove into the property with its broken driveway lights and sad looking gardens.

'Laundry facilities' are provided and if my friend hadn't been keen to get some washing done before going to Melbourne, we would have avoided the washing machine with its dirty corners inside the lid, standing on its own at the end of the little block of rooms.

A reviewer said the towels were old. I agree, and something that is easy enough to update. Another reviewer said it is well past its heyday. That is a good way of summarising it.

I agree with David H and would not recommend this accommodation although I have noticed other reviewers have rated it higher. I feel quite sad about not being able to rate it higher, it looked so promising online.

This was our last stay on Tasmania. This was pre booked and paid via a travel agent so I’m not sure how much we paid. The setting is really nice with lovely scenery. We stayed in the cottage for two nights. Whilst the furniture was fairly old (settee had a rip in it) that wasn’t the problem. It smelt musty and needed a good clean. The bathroom was fairly new but when the sun shone you could see smears where the glass etc had been wiped. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere. If we hadn’t prepaid we would have left. Probably worth avoiding.

It would have been great if we had a breakfast menu since it is a bed and breakfast.
Jeanette just said to book in for dinner no mention of breakfast.
Last time we went we had room service
Mould in the bathroom
Thin towels
Brown water coming out the spa
If they want to charge people $200 then maybe charge a bit less. Definitely not 4 star I would give it a 3.

This hotel was so incredibly disappointing. I feel bad for writing this as I’m sure the owners are lovely but we has some serious concerns.
The owners were away at the time so we could not tell them directly. Our room was very dirty. There was mud and dirt on the carpet, live worms on the carpet and in the bath. They were like black centipede looking things, mice poo near the kitchenette and mound in the bathroom. The bed was also painfully hard. I think it may have been the ensemble base not an actual mattress. We would have left but would have not been refunded due to our booking cancellation policy. We also had nearly no water pressure in the morning so could not shower. All this for $180 per night. Are you serious??!! There are some major health and safety concerns that need to be addressed at this hotel. Please lift your game and stop charging overpriced rates for the quality you are providing.

Quaint private cottages, we stayed in 'Killymoon'. Heating was adequate however no rugs were provided for the cold slate tiled floor. Bathroom was outdated, towels were old and need replacing, no shower/toilet mats/shampoo/conditioner/body wash or hairdryer. Bed mattress and ensemble was old and concave, as was the two-seater couch. Meals were homecooked and okay. Enjoyed the privacy.

My wife and I booked based on a recommendation that we had received from the manager of an establishment in Burnie. In hindsight, we think we received a blind recommendation from a person who was trying to do the right thing, but got it all wrong. Online, the place looks fabulous. Unfortunately, the differences between online and actuality are exceedingly vast - to the moon and back.

We judge that the place is fairly new. However, it has just been thrown together, is now suffering maintenance consequences, and the whole job seems to be out of control. Our room was large and poorly lit. There was a gas heater that required one of the owners to come and light if we needed it. The bathroom had a spa bath and the bottom of the bath itself was covered with boots' footprints that we had to clean away before use. Water pressure was poor.

We had one meal only in the dining room. There is a large shelved area that contains many bottles of wine. To our dismay, we were not able to find any local, Tasmanian wines. The owner (who was also the chef) complained about the local liquor wholesaler and their terms of trading being the reasons why no local wines were available in the dining room. We were not impressed.

We concluded finally that perhaps the business is under-capitalised and its amenities and services are suffering accordingly. We shall never stay there again, and we cannot recommend it.
