Charlie and Kate Dickinson welcome you to Sandhurst Farm Forge. Nestled behind the villages of Doddington and Newnham , Kent. Our Self-Catering accommodation is provided in a centrally heated converted Stable Block allowing guests ample outside space to come and go. Rurally situated within the Mid Kent Downs, your accommodation is independent and naturally socially distancing. There is one large bedroom with King sized Bed, Large Lounge, leading to a fully fitted kitchen and dining area. The bathroom has both a shower and a bath with underfloor heating. Here at Sandhurst Farm Forge we are fortunate to be surrounded by coppiced woodland and open arable fields, with a wonderful network of footpaths for you to explore our designated “Area of Outstanding Beauty” with its peace and tranquillity. We make a good base from which to Explore Kent, its countryside, its coasts, and its castles. Our Local market Town of Faversham holds both Craft and Antique markets and supports a host of independent shops. The Forge offers tuition in the form of taster sessions, or a longer-term series of lessons. Charlie is what we call a "well-seasoned" blacksmith carrying 40 odd years of experience under his belt, both shoeing horses and producing beautiful quality hand forged work. We have a gallery onsite showing a selection of our work, when not out to other galleries.

Having very much enjoyed our stay last year when the Forge was a B&B, we returned this summer to experience the renovation into a self-catering unit, which has been done really well. The accommodation is spacious with a lovely new bathroom, a comfortable lounge and a large fully- equipped kitchen. Kate's breakfast pack was enough to sustain us for several days! Kate is a hospitable host who makes you feel really welcome. The Forge is highly recommended for a stay in this area.

We stayed for 4 nights while attending a festival nearby. The Forge is in a lovely setting, down a narrow country lane but only 10 minutes drive from Faversham. Our room was really comfortable, tastefully decorated and incredibly clean. Kate's breakfast, served through the door to the breakfast room to maintain Covid safety, was lovely - a really wide choice and Kate went the extra mile to find us decaff. tea bags and soya milk. We had rolled over this booking from the year before, and Kate made the whole process very easy and gave us lots of useful information beforehand. We definitely intend to stay here again and would thoroughly recommend The Forge and Kate's hospitality.

What a fantastic place to visit and stay. We booked 2 nights at the forge to visit family and experience their farrier/forging and pottery and textiles workshops. Kate and the whole family were so welcoming and showed us around their gorgeous farm and land which was so quiet and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and fully equipped and very comfortable. Kate was a fantastic host, making us all amazing breakfasts each morning with homemade jams and delicious locally sourced food. She advised where to visit in the area during our stay and we spent a lovely morning in the historical town of Faversham. There are many walks around the local area if you want to just relax in the peace and quiet and see the beautiful countryside. The workshops that the family offered were such great experiences with Charlie in his traditional forge showing us the traditional blacksmithing techniques, Will working in his part of the workshop turning some beautiful pieces of wood, Izzy in her pottery studio showing us how to be the next contestants on Pottery showdown with pinch pots and throwing and Kate offered a workshop in spinning fleece the way our ancestors would have worked. The day was so much fun as we got the chance as a group to experience the workshops and create a little something to take home. The whole family are so talented and some of their work can be seen in their on-site gallery. We could not resist buying some and were just blown away with all the beautiful and unique pieces they have created. We cannot wait to visit again and spend longer with you all seeing more of the area and more workshopping! Thank you for a wonderful two days stay. The Mathesons 😊

Everything was perfect on this (our first) visit and Kate was so helpful and welcoming both in the emails pre-visit, when we arrived and throughout out stay. We felt very safe and secure. Kate couldn't have been more helpful in advising and booking a local pub for supper - and even dropped us off there on our first night. We were able to walk back on a really quiet road and then through a small wood to the back of their 3-acre property. Kate cooked us delicious (pre-ordered) breakfast of local produce each morning, serving it through a 'hatch' (for 'distancing' reasons!) . The accommodation is spacious and comfortable ...and everything 'worked'; we instantly felt 'at home' in this very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. The location is so quiet, set in the Kent weald in a maze of quiet (narrow) country lanes..no street lights or traffic noise - bliss!. Good area for walking - so many footpaths....if only we'd had the time! The garden around the house and annex is swathed with country flowers and shrubs...most attractive. The whole family is very talented: a working forge/farrier, wood turner, potter/ceramics, tapestry, paintings.... and if you're lucky you may (on request) be able to view - and buy, as we did! - beautiful artifacts displayed in their Art Studio.

We booked for a long-weekend and were not disappointed; the room was very comfortable, spacious and well equipped in this beautifully quiet and picturesque small village location. Breakfasts were really delicious and had the best choice of options that we'd come across (including 'free from'). Host Kate was lovely and went out of her way to be informative and helpful (even watered the plants that we'd purchased and left outside).

From the minute I booked this place I had a good feeling about it. Kate sent me directions and was very friendly during our conversations. At the property she personally walked around the room showing everything, rather than just pointing you in the direction. The bed was very comfortable. And the breakfast, oh that breakfast. Seriously I would stay here again just for the breakfast. SO many options and everything was delicious. We had a very busy day out and the food kept us going literally all day. I can't wait to come back and stay again. What an absolute gem of a place. And we did't even see the forge so I have to come back!

We stayed here for four nights, exploring Whitstable, Herne Bay, Canterbury, the Medway towns, Chartwell and Eltham Palace. It suited our requirements down to the ground. It’s.about 7 miles south west of Faversham in pleasant countryside and is very quiet with no passing traffic, and it’s far enough away from the M2 and the M20 not to be bothered by them either. To get access, the final mile or so is over high sided narrow country roads which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The rooms are a fair size and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent with a wide variety of choice. It is served in an adjoining kitchen which you are free to use at any time, which for me was useful in storing my diabetic stuff in the fridge. The owners work on site in various craft activities in the forge which you can see if you are so inclined. They are very friendly. The nearby villages of Doddungton and Newnham can just about be walked if you are prepared to risk walking along the narrow roads. There is a pub at the former. We usually went further afield for our evening meal, the Railway Arms in Faversham was one we particularly liked. All in all, a lovely holiday and for us a good choice.
