I recently visited this property with my family. My wife and I wanted to stay at a property where we could relax with our kids while not compromising our training routine. We went for some fantastic bike rides with amazing scenery to help distract you during the hill climbs. My wife enjoyed long runs along the quite country roads. There are plenty of active games for the kids to play and lots of open ground for running. The pool was very carefully organised in accordance with new protocols and long enough to swim laps. The food was healthy and fresh using local produce. Overall we had and great time and would recommend to both families and those who enjoy an active lifestyle. Before leaving we noticed that the owner also runs bootcamp or fitness retreats in October. We might look into this for our next visit. Clean, modern, comfortable, and yet rustic in style with plenty to do for sport and culture.

Just returned home from a week at Pian di Cascina. We stayed in the Montefalco chalet which was the smallest I think. Other chalets on the end of the row or by the playground had more outdoor space and grass garden area but it was fine for our needs. Kids (age 4 and 7) had the time of their lives. Stunning mountain location, quiet and peaceful with nothing but millions of stars, rabbits, grass snakes, butterflies, lizards (and even a tiny scorpion) for company … which the kids found brilliant! Each morning Paul delivered fresh croissants, milk and bread from the bakery in Casacastalda, a village 40 mins walk/ten min drive away. Casacastalda also has a perfect playground among the trees, as well as a butcher, grocer and a friendly bar /cafe where we sometimes had coffee in the mornings and Aperol Spritz sundowners in the evening. We had half the week on foot and hired a car for the other half (with the odd very affordable taxi in between). This suited us fine. We walked out to Locanda Aquasanta one night for dinner (90 min slow walk), did a 30 min walk into Carbonesca another evening for an ice cream (again there is a good playground, friendly local bar/grocery and plenty of opportunities to practice our bad Italian with locals). In the evenings we saw a number of locals walking the beautiful countryside road, it felt safe with kids. Poppies and bright wildflower verges everywhere. 30 min drive to Gubbio, 50 to Lake Trasimeno (Sualzo beach is a perfect day trip with kids with its lido, cafe, pedaloes and toilet/showers). We met some great other families, kids made friends and the pool was lots of fun. It is very quiet at night but I can imagine if the Tavernetta was open (it was closed during our stay) our chalet (which was next door, our patio just departed by a wisteria and ivy screen) could have felt quite loud/intrusive. Other chalets are further away if you like silence for your kids to sleep. Paul was a great host, funny, helpful and the perfect amount of helpful/available but gave us all the space we needed. Kids fell in love with Charlie the gentle brown Labrador. We flew into Ancona, much cheaper than Perugia, and had a couple of nights in beautiful Fano on the Adriatic coast. On the way home we had a night in Senegallia and enjoyed staying out late and getting the Italian vibe eating out in the square which was full of families enjoying themselves. I would highly recommend Pian di Cascina for a very child-centric break which is relaxing and surrounded by nature.

This must have been our third or fourth visit to Pian Di Cascina, I never get tired of the views and there is so much to visit within a short distance. Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio if you like ceramics and of course many places to eat.
We love the tranquility even though there can be many other people staying it alway feels peaceful. The pool is amazing with views across the the mountains and there is plenty for younger ones though ours are a bit past that now. Highlight was the pizza night when a local from the village comes with an oven and makes fresh pizza.
Paul is ever present to sort out delivery of fresh bread each morning and keep everyone happy and the apartments are lovely, we only stayed in the more traditional ones but there are a couple of modern conversions from an old barn which look great.
I’m sure we’ll be back again, I d thoroughly recommend you book if you want a taste of real Umbria.

An incredible location up in the Umbrian hills, this place is a true find. Utterly stunning views, beautiful accommodation, comfortable, a great pool, wonderful eat as much as you can pizza evenings, epic lasagne to order any time you want not to cook… and for the kids it was perfect. Toys in the villa, everything you needed from high chairs to brilliantly dark shutters for the nights, an order service for nappies, wipes, grow bags, a cot, groceries whatever you need… the pizza evenings full of families with kids and no pressure to keep them quiet or sitting down!

Everything was spotlessly clean, kept to a really high standard. There was a fantastic playground in a beautiful meadow with great equipment. I cannot, absolutely cannot, recommend Pian di Cascina highly enough. Paul, who owns the place, is an incredible host, friendly, personable, really likeable - full of information, good ideas, a great sense of humour and honestly where their website says they just want you to be able to turn up with your suitcase and they’ll look after the rest - well that's exactly what they do. We will miss it hugely and we very much hope to be back.

We had the pleasure of staying at Pian Di Cascina in the heart of Umbria at the end of July 2023, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by lovely views that seemed to stretch out forever. The rolling hills, dotted with trees painted a picture of serenity. Our spacious apartment was a cozy haven. It felt like a home away from home, complete with all the amenities we needed. The large warm pool was a great place to relax. When the sun blazed down, we sought refuge under the gazebo. Plenty of shade, cool breeze, cool beverage and a good book. The daily bread and pastry deliveries made the morning coffee something to look forward to. A true Italian way to start the day. The weekly pizza night was a great way to spend an evening and chat with other guests. It was great to see the children getting involved and making pizzas for their dinner. Armed with the extensive guest guide, we set of to explore the charming towns nearby. Assisi, with its spiritual aura and Gubbio with its medieval architecture and winding streets. Paul, our host was always there to answer our questions, recommend hidden gems, and make sure we had everything we needed. It was like visiting a family member. Pian Di Cascina is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience. If you’re looking for a slice of authentic Umbrian life, look no further. Grazie mille Paul for making our stay truly memorable!

We went on a much needed 7 day holiday at the end of August with our 9 month old daughter to PDC. Firstly I would point out that the accommodation (Spello) was absolutely lovely - not necessarily luxury, but very lovely indeed. The views were spectacular and the local towns are very pretty. Many people on trip advisor have also commented on the amazing pool, which is very beautiful indeed, but is unfortunately very very cold (21 degrees). No doubt this might be refreshing for some people, but for us and our 9 month old, it was actually very unpleasant. It meant that we weren't really able to swim with our daughter as much as we wanted as she was just too cold. It was a real shame to be honest, neither my husband or I enjoyed getting into the pool so this is certainly something to consider if you have a young family. Secondly many people have commented on the exceptional hospitality of Paul and Isobel, sadly we didn't get to experience this. Perhaps this was due to a busy week before we arrived (we were told a party of 30 had been there). When we arrived, another family had also arrived at the same time, they were shown to their room while we were told to wait at a table outside with our baby. It was only a 10 min wait, but with a little one, stuck outside in the heat, it wasn't the best welcome that we could have had after a long journey. We later asked Paul for more info about a local medieval festival, his response was to tell us to look on our ipad which was not really the helpful response we were expecting from the trip advisor reviews. Finally, we were hoping that the in house restaurant - the Taverna - would be open 2 out of the 7 nights, again with a young child, the expectation of 2 nights in 'a restaurant' metres away from our baby was an exciting treat. However, we were told on the first night that it would not be opening for the second evening as Isabel was preparing for a big party for the following week. Naturally this made us feel like the less important guests, but it must be said that for the one night that it was open, the food was spectacular. I'm conscious that the above seem like small perhaps picky points but when the website tells us it's a home from home, and the trip advisor comments advise how perfect everything is, it all adds up to be a little disappointing.

Response from Tinkerbellina, Manager at Pian Di Cascina
Responded 26 Sept 2012
We are experienced owners and managers of Villa Pian Di Cascina. We try to do everything we can to make sure that every guest that stays here is treated as an individual. While we do our very best to enable our guests to have the most enjoyable stay here possible – on the odd occasion, it simply isn’t possible for us to meet what most would consider are unrealistic expectations- The reviewer herself says she is being ‘picky’ – well if you look hard and long enough at anything in this world- you will eventually find something not quite right – to a certain extent it is beyond our control to be able to ensure that every guest that stays here enjoys their holiday 100% -though this is always what we aim for. We try to do our very best to make everyone feels at home and happy here (as we do) – but it is also up to the holiday makers themselves to want to enjoy their holiday – and make the most of it if the weather conditions or other things that are beyond our control that may not be ideal for them. The reviewer says the ‘accommodation was very lovely indeed’ and ‘the pool amazing and views spectacular’ and ‘the food was spectacular’– yet we are rewarded with an average score at the end – to our minds words like ‘amazing’ and ‘lovely’ and ‘spectacular’ do not equate to average... We would like to briefly address each point the reviewer has made so that we can enable our future guests to decide for themselves if we are the right sort of place for their stay- The pool is an outdoor pool – it was between 21 and 24 degrees the weeks the reviewer stayed –There were torrential rains at the end of the week preceding their stay – and this, therefore, resulted in a temporary dip in pool temperatures – this can of course happen at any time-we are sorry but the weather conditions are beyond our control. Please also take into account when reading this review –the average summer air temperature in the UK is around 14 degrees – so to have water temperature of 21 degrees with an air temperature of 28-30 degrees is hardly what many people would describe as cold... (This was the temperature during the week they stayed) We would like to add perhaps it is a little unrealistic to expect a 9 month old to enjoy swimming in a large outdoor pool for the first time – firstly under 1’s mostly prefer water temperatures above 30 – which is not the temperature any outdoor pool reaches consistently (heated or not) in this part of the world...perhaps a pool in the Caribbean or a more tropical climate would have been a better choice for those that prefer bath like swimming temperatures – Had the couple mentioned to us that their daughter found the water cold – we would have been more than happy to lend a baby wet suit as we have one that would have been suitable we use with our baby – it is very difficult to be able to help a situation – if we are unaware of it until we read the review... The reviewer neglected to mention there is a lovely little baby paddling pool in the pool area with warm water and toys for little ones – which is ideally suited to a 9 month old baby. Incidentally – the other guest who stayed the same week were in and out of the pool all week – and seems to enjoy it immensely. (One family have even said they will be booking to come back here the same week next year...) We are very sorry if we caused any inconvenience to the couple during the check in – it is never our intention to inconvenience any of our guests...it was an unusual situation the day they arrived- We asked the couple to wait for under 10 minutes on a shaded terrace with a spectacular view - as they arrived just a couple of minutes after 2 other families arrived – and as the other families arrived first – they were shown to their properties first – this doesn’t happen often – in fact hardly ever- – but when it does –in order to give each family a personal tour and personal welcome by us -the owners-sometimes a short wait is requested –we try to do everything possible to avoid this happening –but as we cannot have any way of knowing exactly who will arrive and when – it is very hard for us to be able to predict when this may happen – or try to prevent it. We also sincerely apologise for our error regarding informing the reviewer about the local medieval festival – it was not acceptable to refer the guests to the festival website – We should have taken the time to explain the week’s events in person – in this instance we underperformed and we will do our best to make sure that this doesn’t happen again – There was, however, a very comprehensive guest information book in the property that had details of all the local events along with walks and days out in the local area...the information regarding the festival was also here- we did explain this upon check-in. We would like to say that we both spend a lot of time helping guests to get the most enjoyment possible out of their stay here – we are always on hand to help and offer advice, assistance or just chat – Some guests like to chat daily and discuss their plans – others prefer to keep to themselves – we very much try to respect the wishes of each guest as individuals– as everyone is different and has differing expectations. In this case it seems that the guests felt that they lacked the personal attention they required – we apologise if this was the case – we misjudged the situation – we got the impression the couple were on a much longed for holiday together and wanted to spend time as a family – had they expressed any of their concerns regarding the pool temperature, requirements for more information or any additional services they thought were lacking– we would have of course been more than happy to assist in any way we could. The restaurant was in fact open only 1 night that week – due to unforeseen family circumstances (not because Isabel was preparing for a group!) and what the reviewer neglected to mention was that a lovely alternative dining experience was offered the same night in order to make up for it. The reviewers didn’t say that they also enjoyed this service – which was a delicious 4 course meal including a local antipasti platter, and handmade pasta - delivered by us to their terrace from a local Tavernetta with a lovely bottle of local wine –so they could enjoy an hassle free ‘adult’ meal – under the stars on their own private terrace... in fact this experience was such as success with our other guests – we will be continuing to offer the ‘Italian take away experience’ midweek next year. We really don’t feel there was any lack of service other than the 2 small points mentioned above-unfortunately there was no mention of the level of service we did provide throughout week –a level of service we feel is well above and beyond the expectation of a self-catering establishment by anyone’s standards... Here are just a few of the extra services we provided for this couple - whilst they stayed with us at Villa Pian Di Cascina: The couple enjoyed freshly baked bread and handmade lasagne this first night of their arrival. (They also enjoyed another 2 lasagne delivered to their terrace on 2 other evenings-) There was a specially sourced selection of local wines and drinks in their property – so they could relax and unwind immediately if they wished We provided a variety of baby toys, a bath, cot, bedding, high chair, changing mat and a variety of baby equipment for their daughter at no additional charge – We provided the option of a baby shop – for nappies and wipes, formula and baby food before they arrived We offered the services of a child-care trained babysitter We provided a complimentary service wash for them – which they utilised. We organised an experienced local masseuse to provide a relaxing stress- relieving massage for them in their property one afternoon. We delivered fresh bread and croissants to their property every morning in time for breakfast. We personally recommended a lovely local restaurant – that they really enjoyed – as they reviewed this highly on Trip Advisor. We don't get it right all the time - we are human - When we get it wrong - we are the first to admit it and try to make amends for our mistakes - and ultimately we learn from them. We don't feel this review is a balanced account of the overall holiday experience this couple enjoyed at Pian Di Cascina.

I could write a novel about our stay at Villa Pian Di Cascina! It was simply fantastic. By far and away the best holiday I have ever been on. We took our 10 month old boy on his first trip abroad and were concerned about how he would take to being in unfamiliar surroundings - he loved it! He ate so much Italian food he's moved up a percentile on his growth chart! I can't recommend this place highly enough for young children.

Firstly, we stayed one night in Rome before travelling down to Umbria in our hire car. Our stay in Rome was chaotic to say the least but the journey down was simple enough and as soon as we arrived we were able to relax. Isabel and Paul send out an email about a week or so before arrival with some handy information and a requests list of things you may want to purchase before you arrive. We figured we would probably be tired from the drive and decided to get some essentials and a homemade lasagna for our arrival - what a good decision! The lasagna went straight in the oven once we had been shown round the villa and we ate on our private terrace overlooking the beautiful Umbria countryside - the perfect start to our week.

The villa itself is lovely. Very comfortable with blackout shutters on the windows helping keep the little man sleeping all night! A big box of age appropriate toys to keep him entertained during the day. There is a baby monitor provided in the room so you can put the kids to bed and enjoy a drink on the terrace whilst watching thousands of fireflies!

On the Sunday the villa's on site La Tavernetta serves a gourmet evening meal for 30EUR a head - order the meal. If you're staying here and are in two minds about ordering the meal - ORDER THE MEAL! The food is incredible! The best we had throughout our entire stay and we ate some very, very good food in Italy! The glasses of Prosecco with the Villa's own grown raspberries to start were fantastic too.

I'll try and include some actually useful information in this review instead of just reliving the fantastic time we had.

Traveling about - The roads around the villa are quiet and easy to navigate. Driving in the region is pretty simple, much less chaotic than driving around Rome!! From the villa we visited Foligno, Gubbio, Fano, Assissi and Perugia - all relatively easily.

Local area - There are two villages nearby, Carbonesca and Casacastalda. Carbonesca is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk away and has a little mini market stocking most of the essentials you might need at very cheap prices. Casacastalda is a 10 minute drive and has a little bit more with two mini markets, a butchers, a bakery and a cheesemonger. The produce are all brilliant, we picked up some of the sausages from the butcher for the BBQ at the villa and they were fantastic. Just through Casacastalda on the road towards Gualdo there is a roadside bar that serves takeaway pizza made to order. I ordered two pizzas and had a very nice beer in the bar whilst they were being made - 12EUR for two of the best pizza's I've ever eaten!

The Villa - On site play area full of toys and games for kids of a range of ages was a really nice spot to spend some time. Our little man loved it :) The tap water at the villa comes from their own well and is perfectly fine to drink so there's no need to spend half your money on bottled water. The surrounding area is stunning. I made time to have a couple of runs in the local area and the trails were fantastic. Every evening Paul came round to take our bread order and as such we had fantastic freshly baked Croissant's for breakfast every single day! There is a nice cool pool for you to cool off in during the day with a warm paddling pool for smaller children full of toys. As I've already mentioned, the food from La Tavernetta is amazing. You can dine with the other guests of the villa or you can pay a small fee (20EUR I think) to be served on your private terrace which we chose to do - the service is fantastic also. You can dine on the gourmet menu on Sunday's and Thursdays and I highly, highly recommend you don't miss the opportunity.

The hosts - Paul and Isabel are fantastic. They've been here for 10 years and really know the area and everything you may need to know they can help you with. The first time we ate from La Tavernetta Paul recommended a particular bottle of Merlot, Isabel concurred and we can't fault their taste in red wine! It was superb like everything else!

Summary - Overall I have used the word fantastic too much in this review but it is well founded. The holiday was made by staying at Villa Pian da Cascina. We will most definitely be back one day, there is no question about that! This holiday has ruined so many things in normal life for us - Food, Wine, Surroundings - as they simply cannot compare to how good they were during our stay at the villa. That for me is the mark of a brilliant holiday. If you are looking for somewhere quiet, child friendly and truly memorable to stay in Italy, look no further. You won't regret booking a stay here.

I loved Pian di Cascina. And I have such great memories from there... all happy memories. The air was pure, the view absolutely fantastic and the house very charming.

I went in the beginig of June, and the day we arrived, it was a really bad day, the weather was impossible, it was raining a lot, but Paul received us very well and the other days were sunny and perfect. I stayed there almost a month, and it was one of the most beautiful places I ever been to.

The houses were very charming. I stayed in two of them. In the first week, we stayed in the Farmhouse, then in the Cascina. Both lovely places, and very organized.

Pian di Cascina is a eco-friendly "hotel", they are concerned about the planet and plant fresh fruits, olive oil, and gem... I totally recomend it. And I got a really good tan!! Seriously, italian sun is the best! Of course, after the brazilian sun!!

The location is a little faraway from things, but it's a 10 minutes walk to the nearest town, a very small town, but they have a market, so it's good! And you can go by car to the famous Umbrian citys, like Assisi (this is my favorite place in Italy, seriously it's divine! It has more than 900 years of history and all the buildings are about that "age". The churches are incredible, expecially the San Francisco one, you must go!), Gubbio, Spello, Perugia... all medieval citys, all lovely and very italian!! All take about 30 to 1 hour to arrive by car, but the road is beautiful, so it feels like the time goes faster.

Watch out for the cherry trees... they are a sin! And you can see a lot of sunflower fields starting in the end of June. THEY ARE LIKE A DREAM!!! When I saw them I looked like a little kid in front of Santa, it was like perfect.

Pian de Cascina is in the country side, so it's all natural. You can do good walks, tracks and everything, and see Castles on the way. It's hot in the summer, very hot.

All this trip was like a dream. I thought I was in a movie, a really long movie. A very good movie! Pian di Cascina is a great place to spend a little time to relax, and feel like you are in a Cezánne painting! I'm 18 years old, so this "hotel" fits every age!

We stayed here for 2 weeks with our 2 children aged 9 and 12. Pian Di Cascina is a series of apartments that all share the same grounds and pool (although all the apartments have their own private terrace area). We stayed in the 2 bed Montefalco.

The apartment is one of the best equipped we have ever stayed in, with everything you could wish for - even tupperware! The oven also works well! There are some really thoughtful, detailed touches such as the windows having fly grills on them so you can open them without any beasties coming in and there are proper mugs! Everything is very clean.

Our terrace was gorgeous, with its own BBQ, and was well screened from neighbours. The view over the hills opposite was breathtaking.

Pian's hosts and owners, Paul and Isabelle, were attentive, friendly and very helpful. Twice a week they run a restaurant on site (Sunday and Thursday nights), on a terrace overlooking the amazing view. Isabelle is a really, really good cook and the food was absolutely wonderful. I would also recommend the lasagne you can order from her and cook in your own apartment. Yum!

If you are a nervous driver be warned that the road up to Pian is steep, narrow and very stony.

The pool is gorgeous, but it is, unfortunately, too cold and does take your breath away when you get in. It was also a shame that the pool is deep throughout and was too deep for our 9 year old to stand up in. This didn't stop his enjoyment of the pool at all, but did mean some extra vigilence on our part. For small children (babies and tots) there is a lovely paddling pool next to the swimming pool, which is well shaded.

Pian di Cascina is ideally suited to families travelling with young children. Our son (aged 9) loved the playground (which is incredibly well equipped) and made friends with some of the other children there (most of whom were younger). If your children are older, however, and you have left nappies and toddlers behind, you may want to think twice about being surrounded by quite so many small people!

There is lots and lots to see and do within an hour of Pian. We had day trips to Gubbio, Spello, Siena (that did take a bit longer!) and Perugia. There are good local restaurants and you can get an ice cream in the bar at the bottom of the hill (too far to walk, but not far in the car).

We stayed at Villa Pian di cascina in May for a week with our 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. After our drive from the airport the fantastic play area , (large lawn area with too many activities to list) was a brilliant start to a great holiday. The villa was fantastic, age appropriate toys were left in boxes specifically for our two, perfectly equipped for all our needs, our food shopping had been done, more importantly our wine and beer shopping had been done, our dinner had been cooked and ready and waiting for us in the kitchen. Paul and Isabel were perfect hosts and their kids were even better. We ate at the Villas restaurant twice, Isabel is a GREAT cook and knows her stuff (about wine too) the restaurant opens 2 nights per week, the first night we had to interrupt our dinner and go back to the villa due to over tired toddlers but Isabel kindly ferried all our courses and drinks straight from the restaurant direct to us, no fuss, great service! We also had a flat tyre on our car and Paul kindly popped down to the local garage with the wheel in his truck, had it repaired and then re fitted it for us, great service! Two examples of the way they both go that extra bit to ensure their guests have a trouble free, relaxed holiday. Villa Pian Di Cascina is in a great location, beautiful walks direct from the villa, and there is information in the villa detailing all the local attractions, directions, costs etc. Everything has been thought of, however amongst all this great stuff the best thing for us was the fact the shutters on the windows made it sooo dark and the kids slept in till 9 most mornings, now THAT hasn't happened for 4 years. I happen to know Paul an Isabel have a penchant for Cadburys Dairy milk chocolate, now if you want even better service, it wouldnt hurt to pack a bar and take it with you.
