Nice sunny day means a good excuse to sit in the garden and have a "scrummy" lunch. We went walking at Firle Beacon and then needed to 'wet our whistles' and at the same time have something to eat. The menu offered an excellent and varied choice, we went for the sharing fish selections and wonderful cheese and cauliflower soup....

Four of us went on spec! Fortunately we went early for lunch and they had a table. The food was very good - four of us had two sharing platters and there was more than enough! The beer is excellent with 3 or 4 real ales and from past experience that probably is the most a pub should offer. Helpful...

On arrival two gossiping staff did not acknowledge me to assist with our large party booking. Food was tough, service not smiling with no engagement with any of us, total rip off wine . Very poor will never return or recommend.

Girl slow at bar other girl did not help her by serving next in line. Menu dull: hamburger/skate/veggy option OR various ploughmans We left feeing unwelcome They were working not serving Disappointing to feel that they were doing us a favour Maybe abnormal as boss lady earlier had been welcoming Maybe what she had been able to employ Looked a...

Nine of us stayed here before the last leg of our walk along the South Downs Way - for which it is well situated being only just over a mile away from the path. The rooms are beautifully appointed with luxuriously large roll-top baths but only two of us managed to get any hot water. Admittedly we probably all wanted...

We stayed overnight for a special birthday celebration after dinner in the restaurant with friends. The Bloomsbury room is quaint in the eaves but with many low beams and creaky floors and three steps down to the ensuite. Odd little alcove full of 'spare' furniture off the bathroom. Tv was tiny! We had planned to watch the rugby in the...

After a walk around the village we took our table by the fire, just as well, it was freezing outside. We chose to drink a beautiful real ale brewed a few miles away in Hurstpierpoint, a hoppy thirst quencher, in hindsight a beer better suited to a summers day, but nonetheless a beauty. We had Roast Pork with all the...

Popped in for a breather and a beer after a long walk along the local footpaths and lanes. The beer was very good - recommended by the barman, and the selection of wines looked very impressive. The pub is very big, over a couple of different levels with small, low ceilinged rooms and large, echoing open rooms with high ceilings....

We recently stayed at The Ram and in the Bo Peep room. It was a little cold and it was not great having the bathroom across the hall. The breakfast was very slow to arrive and the coffee was dreadful. It is set in a beautiful location with very friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner which was ok. I...

Have just returned from lunch at the Ram following a great walk with a group of 9 friends. We had prebooked our food to make it as straight forward as possible when we arrived - but despite this still had to wait way over an hour for our food. The staff were obviously doing their best but were not able...
