Popped in for a breather and a beer after a long walk along the local footpaths and lanes. The beer was very good - recommended by the barman, and the selection of wines looked very impressive. The pub is very big, over a couple of different levels with small, low ceilinged rooms and large, echoing open rooms with high ceilings....

We recently stayed at The Ram and in the Bo Peep room. It was a little cold and it was not great having the bathroom across the hall. The breakfast was very slow to arrive and the coffee was dreadful. It is set in a beautiful location with very friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner which was ok. I...

Have just returned from lunch at the Ram following a great walk with a group of 9 friends. We had prebooked our food to make it as straight forward as possible when we arrived - but despite this still had to wait way over an hour for our food. The staff were obviously doing their best but were not able...

We visited the Ram Inn for Sunday lunch. It is best to book as they are usually v busy. We were a table of 11 and the services was excellent even though we were a big group. The veggie and meat roasts were delicious. Highly recommend

Saturday lunch for four, a celebration - we asked for a table in the bar, and they put us next to the fire, a cosy corner... perfect. We had haloumi chips and sweet chilli sauce while we waited. Starters were delicious - two of us had the chicken livers and mushrooms on ciabatta, two had potted crab. Main courses also...

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. Table was in the room next to the bar. The pub was very busy and completely disorganised. The waitress went to check on our table whilst we had a drink at the bar and didn't come back to us. We had to ask again about our table. Eventually got a table, sat down, no...

As many recent comments allude to, lovely pub, amazing location, could be brilliant... but massively disappointing. It needs one person in charge who cares. It was minus 2 outside. The staff managed to light one fire in one of the three rooms, attempted to light another, failed, then gave up and didn't bother with the third. Everyone was cold. The...

I've been going here on and off for years and the standards have varied massively during that time. Last night was probably the best meal I've ever had there. The place was full and busy with a great atmosphere. I had a perfectly cooked Blue Filet Steak, everything was piping hot, nicely served and the staff, whilst very busy, we're...

We stayed overnight for a special occasion. The room , at £160 per night, is not cheap, but we thought we'd treat ourselves. The room is at the top of a small steep staircase, which was fine, but wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. A spacious room, with seating and a roomy bathroom. A few housekeeping issues- no shower...

Visited as part of a group and our booked table was ready and waiting! Drinks service was good although some clarification of orders was needed. All our meals were very good and I can particularly recommend the burgers. A little confusion when it came to paying the bill which was caused by our party changing tables after our meal. Well...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Ram Inn has been at the heart of a vibrant farming community for over five hundred years. A wonderful village local, set in Firle, at the foot of the Downs and in the South Downs National Park. The rambling old building has three main bar areas, each with its own open fire lit every day between October and April. At the bar you will find artists, walkers, writers, farmers, farriers and vicars, and the garden is usually full of families and children of all ages. Now known for really good local food as well as locally produced cask ales, we also have four beautiful bedrooms and offer bed & breakfast all year round. ... more   less
