The Tree Inn is a former Manor House, parts of which date back to the 13th Century. It is situated in the historic market town of Stratton, 1.2 miles from Bude and the North Cornwall coast. The Grade II buildings encircle a courtyard full of flowers and character. Come and see the home of "The Last of the Cornish Giants", a civil war hero standing 7' 4" in 1643 whose picture, a gift from Charles II, dominates the courtyard. One of Cornwall's oldest and most treasured pubs has recently been sensitively refurbished offering 6 rooms . There is street parking but also a free large car park only 2 minutes walk away: for sat nav EX23 9DS. We welcome walkers, cyclists and motorcyclists and offer secure parking/storage in our courtyard and barn. There is a fully equipped guest kitchen you are welcome to use during your stay. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate which may be taken anytime: with diverse teas and superb Italian coffee to set you up for the day. Groups are welcome to book exclusive use from £25 each per night depending on season.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Most excellent food at reasonable prices. Cooked to perfection and service with a smile. A choice of roast dinners with all the trimmings. Even a happy hour for drinks the first couple of hours of opening so nice to get change from a fiver for a pint of premium cider.

We had a comfortable stay, with very comfortable single beds. The bar is traditional, well stocked and cosy, with the added bonus of live folk music on the Friday night. The restaurant was closed, but they kindly made us lasagna, which was welcome after a long drive. The room 1 was no frills - a bit dark and chilly. Shared bathrooms a bit tired. Parking about 7-10 minutes walk away. We ate out as the restaurant was closed-I think this should be mentioned on the website and would probably have influenced where we stayed, but Bude is really close, so it was handy for seeing the area.

Lovely place to have a nice pint of well looked after beer, or cider. If spirits are your thing there are dozens and dozens to choose from. Well off the main road, sitting in their courtyard is brilliant, especially if you catch the sun just right. (A proper little sun trap).

Whether you want a quiet pint in the back bar, or a more lively experience (and a game of pool) in the front bar, the Tree Inn in Stratton is a great find. For me it's just a short walk across the village from where I live, but if you come from further afield for a visit, use the free car park in Stratton. The Tree Inn will offer you a warm friendly welcome. Grab a cheese board from the landlord, they're awesome! Or order a delivery from one of the takeaways in Bude.

The hotel advertised parking, which is why I chose it. This turned out to be street parking, except there was none until I was beginning to park illegally on a disabled space. I tried up by the church but that was full apparently there was also parking in the village, but I could not walk that far. Room 3 needs some reordering. The only sockets I could find were jammed under a small table, which itself was hard to move so that I could plug in the electric jug, my laptop and my mobile charger. On the plus side I received a very courteous reception looking after my luggage, while I searched for a parking space. I did not use the restaurant. Beware, there is no TV in Room 3!

Booked a while back after viewing menu online, on arrival we had a drink in the courtyard. This was the best but of the evening, lovely outdoor space and drinks from the bar. We then moved through to the dining room which we were advised was now the ‘Bistro’.. Menu had totally changed since booking and the waitress said that other diners had also commented on this. The menu is now bistro style as the name suggests. We ordered crab linguine - very little crab meat and served with spaghetti? Very underwhelming. Steak - cooked very poorly, chewy and poor quality. Overall a bad start to our stay. Sadly we didn’t even return for drinks to the pub as felt the dining experience had left a bad taste for us. The young waitresses were helpful and trying their best but obviously this place isn’t quite sure what it is.

Thank-you for your review unfortunately it is posted on our accommodation site. The Tree Bistro opened in December 2020 as a new business within The Tree Inn just before lockdown, which was frustrating, and re-opened in May 2021. I can only imagine that you found an old menu from The Tree online as Bistro menus have been clearly posted since opening on multiple sites . I've personally tasted the crab on many occasions and can assure you it is hand-picked fresh Cornish produce and is served with linguine - it is a delicate dish and the portion served is generous by restaurant standards. It is difficult to comment on your issue with the local dry aged steak as it is always a popular dish - I would always recommend if you have an issue to raise it with your server at the time of service so that a remedy may be found. This has been a very difficult time for our industry and your review seems to be seeking to inflict as much damage as possible. It is always sensible to check the latest menu wherever you chose to dine, especially in these challenging times when changes can occur more frequently than "normal", to ensure it is to your taste.

I ordered the mussels and they were probably the best I’ve ever had. The only problem was that the dishes were a bit small because my family all agreed that the meals were a little too small. My sister had the crab linguini and my mum and dad had the fish. Overall 4/5 for review.

I booked a table for 3 people at 8pm for Wednesday 4th August. Made the booking online the night before. It stated they needed a £30 deposit which I did and was taken instantly from my account. Unfortunately due to illness I thought best to cancel(90 minutes prior to our booking) Later on I walked down to the Tree Inn to ask about the deposit and was greeted by a very rude and arrogant man who basically said, "No", "he quoted if you cancel within 24hrs then you lose the deposit". Although we booked within that period so couldn't give that notice!?! He also said he didn't have enough time to re-advertise the table and would lose money, even though it was virtually empty. I've worked over 25 years in this industry and find his manner incredibly obnoxious. You're a very greedy man. WARNING TO OTHERS BOOKING A MEAL, BEWARE OF THIS RIDICULOUS POLICY. The Only one to lose out was me!!

Thank-you for your review, unfortunately you have posted on the accommodation site of The Tree Inn. The Tree Bistro is a separate business that operates within The Tree Inn. The bistro regretfully had to start taking deposits due to the number of no shows after lockdown eased - there are 8 tables and most nights 2 would not turn up. We operate on fine margins and like others in our industry have struggled. A deposit policy is unfortunately where we find ourselves as food gets wasted and other dinners are disappointed due to no shows.
