stayed at the sands while bowling in reno a few times was very satisfied though this year was very disappointed that there were no rooms available for some of the bowlers so many of them had to be separated and stay at other hotels.
The drive over was amazing, took the scenic route over. Stopped twice once gas n go & once 4 lunch. Traffic was smooth. Scenery was lovely from LAX to RNO.

I have stayed at the Sands several times over the past 30 years. The room I had this past trip was better than anything I can remember staying in on any of my previous trips. I was impressed.

It is very unusual the Hotel charged you 30% in advance. I suggest you call the hotel directly asking why. In my case, I did not book directly with the Hotel, I booked through my bank's website travel service. I paid full amount in advance when I book the room, if I needed to cancel, I can get full refund if I cancel 72 hours prior to arrival date. The day I checked in, Sands asked me for a credit card, told me they would need to hold $75, but the $75 never actually charged through my credit card. I have a habit whenever I book a hotel room, I ask their cancellation policy.
