We were looking for a night in a B&B that had history and charm without any hustle and bustle. This is IT! The owners were very nice and the attached restaurant and bar was very convenient. We even won dinner for two that night!. Even though the Inn is old (by USA standards) it has been modernized just enough to...

Thank you for the very nice review! You will be delighted to know that there was a second winner of "Dinner for Two" last night, also house guests, who are enjoying breakfast as we speak. They are looking forward to reedeeming their prize tonight. That leaves one remaining ticket for the big prize of "Dinner for Two" among the tickets...

Quaint, comfortable, very clean. Delicious generous hot breakfast. Our room (Henry Wheeler) had a very small bathroom sink. Nice corner location with windows on two sides for breeze. Enjoyed walking around the village of Hancock.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, it means so much to us. Glad that you discovered our little gem of a village and enjoyed your stay at The Hancock Inn - small sink and all. We are so grateful to our predecessors for making sure each room in this old building has a private bath, but...

The Hancock is was our first stay at a B&B and they have set the bar high. The Inn is beautifully decorated with very comfortable rooms. The grounds were lovely with a large fish pond surrounded by flowers. The homemade breakfast is fit for a king and the pot roast is the best we've had. Marcia and Jarvis were great...

Hancock is a pretty little town, however the traffic on Main Street never stopped. I would advise getting a room in the back of the Inn. Our hosts (and Potter) were pleasant and breakfast was the best meal of the day!

Thank you so much for your review. It's true: pretty town, busy road. It's not busy like suburban Boston busy (where we came from five years ago), but the extent of the bustle on Main Street does surprise some people when they get here. That will have something to do with the reason The Hancock Inn is the oldest inn...

This is a local gem located in a quintessential New England village. The village itself has a market and cafe across the street. Next door to the Inn is the town library. A stroll past the library, historical society, town fountain, and up the hill will land you at the apple orchard. If you walk in the other direction out...

What a perfect, narrated tour of the village of Hancock - in four sentences! You got it all. Thank you. Of course, describing the experience of this "amazing scene" may take longer and can be different for everyone in every season. I guess that's why some of us live in New England - the scene is always (always) changing. Thank...

The Hancock Inn is the real thing- an inn that has been in operation for most of 250 years, accumulating layers of history over that time. At every turn you find something interesting to look at- the furniture, the artwork, the building itself. But it is not precious or a museum- the atmosphere is open and friendly. The breakfast was...

We stopped at the Hancock Inn to break up our trip home from Maine. It was a last minute stop and Jarvis and Marcia made us welcome right from our call from the road to make the reservation for the room and the fabulous dinner. As a dog owner, it was a pleasure to visit with their golden, Potter, after...

So glad you made a spontaneous stop at The Hancock Inn. Our location as a great midway point for travelers is one of the top reasons it's New Hampshire's oldest, continuously operating inn. The charm of the village and the abundant natural beauty of the Monadnock region, through careful preservation, are important contributors as well. Nooks, crannies and a proper...

Dear Laura: Jarvis and I are so pleased that you enjoyed the inn and the good company of your fellow guests. One of the first surprises I had as an innkeeper was how the shared experience of a weekend here drew people together and how they would find common threads in their lives. The historic Hancock Inn is a gem of Hancock, NH, itself a quiet village lined with 18th c. homes. I love staying here - no matter what room, on what floor. Thank you for your very nice review! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hancock Inn is a historic property in Hancock, New Hampshire. Built in 1789, it is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating inn. The inn has 14 rooms for overnight accommodations that are exceptionally well-appointed with period antiques and inclusive of modern amenities, such as in-room chargers, waffle-weave spa robes, flat screen televisions with built-in DVD and wifi throughout the building. Many rooms have gas or electric fireplaces. There are numerous common areas around the inn for the enjoyment of our guests, upstairs and down. The two sitting rooms on the first floor, one with with a Rumford fireplace, are hallmarks of the inn's warmth and hospitality, separating it from the usual of being away, making it feel closer to home. Outside, the inn's 1.5 acres of gardens and field (which includes a professionally maintained croquet pitch in the summer) connect visitors to the Monandock region's preserved landscape and scenery. In the winter, join countless avid snowshoers and cross country skiers and, other times, experience the lakes, rivers and trails that crisscross our corner of the world. The inn's fine dining restaurant, The Fox Tavern, is open seven nights a week. The farm-to-table menu features New England favorites relying on locally raised beef, pork and poultry, plus cheese, fruits and vegetables from area growers, including vegetables from our own gardens. The Tavern's reknowned, cooked-to-order breakfast is served complimentary to house guests. Come to the Hancock Inn and learn why it has been characterized as "the near perfect expression of the New England village inn." ... more   less
