My husband and I had no knowledge of what was good/bad in New England and we wanted our 30th wedding anniversary to be perfect. Well, let's just say that our initial plan needed some quick and serious revision when we discovered that the hotel we booked in Portland, Maine was not

First, we stayed here off season for one night. We liked that it was in a residential area which is quiet. But, it is a ride to the center of Portsmouth. The room itself is nicely appointed. Our room was in the back of the house and we didn't have a good view of the water. It is

The Great Island Inn is easy to find and the management is easy to deal with. Pretty quiet, super clean and lovely touches. Great bed, pillows, TV, kitchenette, etc. Easy parking in an area notorious for limited parking. Can't wait to go back!

Exquisite design. Upscale and smart.
short walk to beautiful waterfront views
What is the best water view room, with the best king size bed? My husband has a bad back, so need a good mattress. Would love a pretty water view. Is this close to Hendrys market? Thanks for prompt response.
Only the top floor bedroom has a water view. I'm sure that the owner of the Inn purchase the same mattresses for all of the rooms (and the beds were great). We stayed on the 1st floor next to the patio. This Inn is awesome and Henry's market is right next door. Best breakfast sandwich that I have ever had. I truly love this Inn.
