This is the first time we’ve stayed at The Hotel Macomber and we loved it instantly. It’s so welcoming and full of history that even the “Ghost of the Trunk Lady” made us feel at home. We’ve already reserved our room for next year, we highly recommend the Captain Mey’s Room.

Sazon at the front desk is fantastic! This is a beautiful old hotel with tons of history. Unfortunately, it was last remodeled 30 some years ago. The ugly carpet covers all the floors everywhere. The bathrooms are not up to par, and the shower was so bad we didn’t use it. The old replacement windows don’t work, and slam down if you’re not careful. ……… They have a note telling you not to unplug the refrigerators because it will defrost and leave a puddle on the floor, perhaps they should try buying refrigerators that aren’t rusted out and make a ton of noise instead?…….. They do have flatscreen TVs, and split system HVAC units in your rooms, and they come with several instructions on how to use them There is a somewhat high-end restaurant in the hotel, but it’s only open for dinner. There is a little breakfast café in the basement that you have to get to from outside. There was no lunch available when we were here. There were also no other beverage options, coffee in the room, or a place to fill up your water bottles. Unless you want to try and shove them underneath the nasty bathroom faucet. We love old buildings like this, and search them out on our travels, I just think there could be some upgrades made that don’t cost a fortune…

Hotel Macomber- My friends and I went for a girls weekend to the Hotel Macomber. When we arrived, we were given a key to one of our rooms and when we unlocked the door, people were actually staying in the room. We went down to the desk and the clerk said she would take care of it. We checked in at four and we’re not told until after our dinner that the room was ready. We asked if there would be any compensation for our trouble. After three days with no reply, the third clerk finally told us the manager would call us back. Finally the manager Crystal called us and argued with me that the situation was immediately rectified. I told her that was definitely not the case. However, she continue to argue with me, never offering an apology, and when I asked her compensation she not only said no but try to guilt me into saying any mistake made by the clerk would be taken out of her salary and i should know they were a family own business. Any hotel, whether family owned or corporate owned, would have at least given us a free drink at the restaurant or a small credit for our troubles. With that being said, the hotel is in desperate need of upgrades. The electrical is a disaster- adapters falling out of the wall. Bathrooms that look like they’re from the 1920s, sinks in the middle of the room, and no daily service. That’s not to mention that there is no elevator. They say in life you get what you pay for. However this hotel was extremely expensive as we paid over $300 for a room per night. I would definitely recommend you look elsewhere. There were many other hotels for the same price that were much more upgraded and I’m sure had much better customer service.…

I booked via another site (not Macomber site). I gave all info. One adult. One child, age ten. I was asked for payment and vacation was booked. My son and I show up to a very unprofessional member of staff behind the counter. She immediately tells me we can stay there because my son is ten and they don’t allow children under twelve. This was news to me. Why did they take my money? Especially after I shared my child’s age on the site?! What a complete nightmare. In the past, I’ve come home to find that my house was robbed. This experience made me feel a bit like that. We were so much looking for a break and a father and son good time in Cape May. Hotel Macomber killed it.

Great location, clean, comfortable, friendly staff. Historic hotel experience that's not too fancy. No elevator, so just be aware of that. Bagel shop right downstairs. We got our bagels and tea and went to sit on the beach to eat breakfast. The porch is an awesome place to sit and watch the people go by. Staff was friendly, accessible and accomodating. Location is perfect. No children under 12, so beware of that too! Great views. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel Macomber is right on Beach Avenue across from the Convention Center. That said, the rooms are very quiet, clean and comfortable. They had a very small bathroom and the sink was outside the bathroom in the main room but that was fine. They also had a Roku on their TV which meant you could not get any broadcast channels only the ones on the Roku channels (or Netflix, Disney etc if you wanted to log into your account). But, there were some interesting channels on it and I did not go to Cape May to watch TV anyway. Just thought I would mention it in case it matters to you. During COVID, they do not go into your room to clean but they did provide clean towels and linens if you wanted each day. They also thoroughly clean the rooms between guests.

My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend here and were very happy with the accommodations. The Hotel is a historic home right across the street from the beach. Everything is within walking distance. The folks at the front desk are extremely nice and accommodating. The room could use some attention. Not that it was rundown or anything like that. It was clean (kudos to Meg and Amber of the housekeeping staff) and tastefully done. What it could use is a real dresser as opposed to a sort of table with small drawers. There is also only a clothes bar/shelf for hanging clothes as opposed to a closet. Also, the central AC has no individual controls for the room. We were there in August and it was COLD (think Rocky pounding sides of beef). The only adjustment is to close down the vent. There are individual heating units in each room that we actually had to run to make the room comfortable. The bed was too soft for my liking but my wife found it comfortable. The shower was large with plenty of hot water. Regarding some of the negative reviews, I didn't find the noise mentioned an issue. As for carrying your bags up the stairs, this is clearly addressed when you make your reservation. If you are surprised by this, you're not paying attention. While I would recommend Hotel Macomber for a one or two night stay, I can't imagine staying longer due to the lack of space for clothes.…

We had a few days in Cape May and this was perfect. If you are wanting an upscale experience this isn’t for you. It’s very simple like a motel experience. You have a bed and a small bathroom. However, the beach is steps away and you can walk to everything. We loved the porch and played games and chatted most nights. My only complaint is that the porch needs to be non-smoking. That was very unpleasant.

I hate to even write this review because this hotel is beautiful and perfectly situated across the street from the beach, but this is the loudest hotel. Stayed in room 24. The walls are paper thin you can hear EVERYTHING. I didn’t sleep for when 1 hour while staying here. It sounded like bowling bowls were falling and slamming already at 6am. The beds are extremely hard. Even crappy motels I’ve stayed in had better beds than this. We are considering leaving a day early which is a shame, but sleep is important to us. If you don’t care about noise or stiff hard beds, stay here. I’m sad I have to write this review :(
