My parents and I stayed at the Garden House and loved every minute of it. At arrival we fell in love with the stunning garden, enjoyed the drinks provided in the fridge and followed all the recommendations of Annette and Barry. We enjoyed listening to the stories of their adventurous lives while having drinks in the evening. The breakfast was just brilliant and I loved the talks with Annette about books and literature. Unfortunately we only stayed one night, which was a mistake. We should have stayed longer... enjoying the pool, walking in Franschhoek (it’s safe, even at night), having more wine tastings and just enjoy the beautiful nature around it. Annette and Barry - you have my word, I’ll come again. Dorothee (with my parents Iris and Jürgen)
Just had four nights with Annette and Barry at the Garden House. Must be our fourth or fifth stay there. It's a place to relax, and enjoy the large swimming pool and lovely gardens after wandering round the town. Breakfast on the stoep with fabulous mountain views is a lovely start to the day. The cottage is superb and spotlessly clean. Great hosts - we'll be back.
I tried to book the Garden House but it was already booked for our dates. We wanted somewhere lovely for the last 2 nights of our trip. Annette offered us the room within their house, which she said she had more or less decided not to rent out any longer. We were so glad we stayed there. Both Annette and Barry were very welcoming and Annette was always concerned about our comfort, checking that we had sunscreen/hats since it was mid-thirties hot while we were there. While we had less space than we would've had in the Garden House we still had a lovely room, with very comfortable bed and tea/coffee making facilities & biscuits plus cool drinks in an in-room fridge. We loved having the ceiling fan. It made all the difference for a good night's sleep in that heat and pleased my husband to no end as he's not a fan of air-conditioning. Breakfasts were wonderful. We were truly well looked after and we loved staying here. There was nothing we disliked about this accommodation. It is a beautiful house, with a gorgeous garden and pool but the best bit of it is the care of the welcoming hosts. We have no hesitation in recommending Barry & Annette as excellent hosts and if/when we return to Franschhoek we will certainly want to stay there again. …
We had the most wonderful time staying with Annette and Barry, because that's what it's like staying at the Garden House, staying in a lovely place with really lovely people. As has previously been said, the cottage annexe is really lovely, immaculately clean and comfortable, with the most comfortable bed, lovely bed linen and and a lovely bathroom with a great shower. The garden is absolutely stunning and has gorgeous views which calm and soothe the soul. There is a lovely pool area which is pretty and relaxing in. As big animal lovers we loved having the furries around which made it even more homely. The breakfast was wonderful, smoked Franschhoek trout with horseradish on crispy toast was our favourite, absolutely delicious. But the best bit about staying at the Garden House was the wonderful hospitality and kindness from Annette and Barry who welcome you and treat you as extended family for the duration of your stay. They invite guests to join them on the stoep for sundowners and invited us to join them again when friends came to visit. We had a lovely evening and felt very privileged to be invited. My husband was unwell during our stay and Annette was so kind and caring, offering to call a doctor, providing endless ice packs and chilled water whilst also checking on me to see if I needed anything. Barry provided toast and crackers for my husband when that was all he could face eating. They were kindness personified. We were genuinely very sad to leave and don't think we will ever experience such kindness and hospitality from such lovely people as Barry and Annette ever again. They were also very funny! Thank you again for looking after us so well. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Garden House to anyone thinking of staying in Franschhoek. Till next time Shelley and Terry (Eddie!) Second time we stayed at the Garden House or shall I say - at Annette and Barrys place. 4 nights this time and reason for visiting Franschhoek was the Sparkling Wine festival. As this is a small village, your are close to everything. Some minutes to walk to village center with all the good restaurants. But the most important thing is the lovely feeling you have when staying here. Sitting on the veranda in the morning and having a great breakfast and great views, is just just fantastic. Borrow a bicycle and take a tour around the vineyards, then relax at the pool with a cool Savannah . We just love it !
