#1 of 14 in Tulamben
Villa Markisa, an exclusive resort located on the northeast coast of Bali. Nestled at the foot of Bali’s most famous volcano “Gunung Agung", the private bungalows offer individual service and great attention to detail. Dive Bali’s most famous site, Tulamben’s USS Liberty shipwreck just minutes away with a high-speed tender boat. For scuba divers who prefer critters, “Seraya Secrets” is directly in front of the resort's beach and numerous other excellent dive sites are minutes away! We do our best to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. In addition to measures such as more frequent cleaning and disinfection of rooms and public areas, we also provide some precautions for our cars, restaurant, bar and the dive center. As our resort is very spacious it is easy to maintain social distances. A major advantage of Villa Markisa is that our guests are always outside, except when in their own rooms. We are looking forward to welcoming our guests again. Certainly they can spend a wonderful and relaxing holiday in Villa Markisa and remain safe.

We returned from our 5th trip to Bali a few days ago, where we had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Villa Markisa, a haven of peace in Tulamben. It was our first time staying in this intimate and cozy dive resort with an immaculate garden in front of the sea. Just walking a few meters you can dive in Seraya Secrets, one of the best spots in Bali for macro photography. But also, at that same walking distance, their comfortable boats are available to go diving to any other dive site in the area, including Amed. We enjoyed immensely the 10 days we spent as a family in Villa Sonea, their double bungalow. Being able to dive in Tulamben and particularly in the Liberty Wreck without finding more divers was a unique experience, so much that most of our dives were there. It was also a great surprise to be able to do a black water dive in a place with such enormous biodiversity as is Tulamben: very productive, very well organized and safe. In addition to the good dives and the beauty and comfort of Villa Markisa, we really enjoyed the kindness of the friendly staff, the good food and the attention to detail by Christiane and Pedro, the creators of this wonderful place. In these difficult times, we felt safe and cared for with the strict sanitary protocols put in place by the hotel’s administration. We ourselves were of course vaccinated and took precautions, but the ventilated areas, the incredible good manners and adherence by the staff to mask and distance measures, were very reassuring. We feel good that with our stay we were able to make a small contribution to the economy and the well being of the wonderful balinese people. We liked it so much that we are already planning to return to Villa Markisa on our next trip to Indonesia in 2023.

We can only say amazing things about Villa Markisa. It felt like home away from home and even more ; beautiful gardens, views of the ocean, the ability to watch the sunrise over the sea and relax with a drink at the end of the day with a gentle sea breeze. The room was incredibly comfortable and well thought out - your own steel water bottle to reuse and refill and the ability to refill your bottle in your room, masks and santiser provided, dressing gowns and a turndown service by staff at end of day. Villa Markisa clearly defined and briefed us on the covid protocol at the resort and required all guests and staff to abide by this. This was reassuring and appreciated by us. All staff were attentive, helpful and friendly from the driver who picked us up from Sanur, our welcome upon arrival, dining and housekeeping, gardeners, and diving staff. The food was wonderful, plentiful, delicious and varied and we loved the special touch of afternoon tea. Great food and skilled chef. The diving staff were wonderful and a special thanks to our two dive guides. They have amazing eyes finding beautiful small creatures and things we have not seen before. A special thanks to Nina for being so prompt at replying to my first email and my subsequent emails as we navigated the protocol for coming to Bali in this covid world. It was lovely to spend time with Christiana, Pedro. Their knowledge and passion for their environment both under the water and above the water is infectious and inspiring. Villa Markisa is a wonderful place and we loved staying there. We were fortunate to visit them in early August after Bali was opened to domestic tourists.

I love this place and couldn’t think of a better resort to visit for scuba diving when you want to be a little off the beaten path. The staff and service are all excellent. The food is varied with the ability to satisfy almost any pallet. The accommodations are just beautiful. I’ve been a repeat visitor!

We spent Christmas and New Year’s with the lovely Christiane and the always good-humoured Pedro, as well as several other great guests in Villa Markisa. It was about as close to perfection as a diving paradise holiday can get. The diving was superb. We were lucky enough not only to see numerous gorgeous little critters, but also a Mola Mola on a blackwater dive, which is extremely rare!!! I very highly recommend the blackwater dives, they are so amazing! The dive guides are great, the dive center is so well organised, there is every comfort for photographers, and everything one could possibly ask for. Also, everybody else on the staff is lovely, and the attention to detail Christiane has put into even the smallest things to make people feel happy and surrounded by beauty and attention is not something one finds often. I should also mention the food is very tasty and always varied, and Pedro is always looking for new recipes, which we were happy to provide as well. To top it all and make one feel at home, there is Nala, the sweetest dog, who just loves cuddles. We will most certainly be back. Villa Markisa is an amazing jewel to discover. I could not recommend it enough.

First of all, I'm ruined for all other diving operations. My expectations are over the top high now, thanks to all of the amazing people at Villa Markisa. I stayed in the bungalow by the dive shop. The location was perfect for me, as it was right across from the spacious camera room and steps away from the dive shop. The outdoor garden bathroom was so beautiful. I could walk into the entrance of the bathroom and take a shower after a dive, before I walked into my bungalow. I had the best dive guide. Although everyone else staying there said the same about their guides. Buti could find things that I could only see through my magnified viewfinder and in focus in my 100mm macro lens and usually in my SMC diopter. He was very patient in pointing things out, usually pointing them out AGAIN, and waiting for me to find, focus, and get the right shot. I never felt rushed or pressured to move on so someone else could get in since he was my own private guide. Also, they have the best Blackwater Diving I've ever experience! I wish I could have done more. I guess I'll be back! The food is amazing! I'm vegan and I ate very well. I had been in Indonesia for almost 3 weeks prior to arriving at Villa Markisa and I was ready for something more creative and appealing. All of my needs were met and exceeded anything I could have expected.
