I do not understand the negative reviews for this hotel. It is located on a hill overlooking the town of Jakar but is a relatively short walk or cab ride to town. On the other hand, there isn't a whole lot to do or see in town during evening hours. The room wasn't fancy but it was clean and decent-sized....

This is a lovely property that merges the warmth of a small business with excellent food and service. We were fed an amazing variety of food that offered something for everyone, ranging from traditional Bhutanese cooking to carrot cake. The family that runs the place is engaging, so accommodating and very knowledgeable about not just the local area but Bhutanese...

I spent 12 days in Bhutan and this was my favorite of all the places I stayed. The room was comfortable and cozy, the food was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's run by a family with an adorable little girl and it's a very efficient operation. I'd highly recommend a stay here if you are...

Its a basic hotel run by a family in Bumthang. The staff is very warm and friendly. The owner takes good care of the guests. The food here is very good. Go for bhutanese and must try the buckwheat pancakes. You must also try the Red Emma (Chilli) Datschi here. The rooms have a very good heating system. There is wifi...

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and it was the best stay we had in Bhutan, the atmosphere was so cozy and quiet, the view on the dzong wonderful, the room was spacious, clean and really nice. The owner and his family and staff were always available and so friendly (it felt like staying at home!), and the food...

The hotel is in a charming traditional Bhutanese building. The deluxe room was good but didn’t have much of a view. The bathroom was very basic and mixing the hot and cold water was a challenge. Wifi worked quite OK. People were very friendly and food tasted delicious. The stay was very comfortable. We flew out of Bumthang which saved...

Travelling through Bhutan for the sights & walks, our stay in the Bumthang Valley in this gorgeous, newly done-up traditional place. With its all-wood guest wing, and wood fires in the evening cold, it felt like a lodge - so be wary it's not like a all-amenities hotel. For a start, it can get cold through the night (under warm...

This lovely hotel gets five stars from me not for luxury, but for the people who will take care of you there. That does not mean JVL is not comfortable. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with wide plank floors, sturdy beam ceilings and walls clad in local pine. The king size bed was a welcome change from the twin beds...
