Certificate of Excellence
Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous bed capacity of 64 bedrooms. Although large, it is so stylish, roomy and beautifully positioned along a dry riverbed, that guests fall in love with it. Each spacious room at Kapama River Lodge features a full en-suite bathroom and terrace with uninterrupted views into the leafy-green Big 5 game reserve. The central guest entertainment areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas and recliners for lazy afternoons. The long L-shaped relaxation lounge and bar under a double-volume thatch, curves around the pool and on either side is a huge double-sided fireplace creating a wondrous open-plan yet cosy atmosphere. The Rhino Boma dining area with tables arranged under a low thatch in a horseshoe curve, has a central open space where a roaring outdoor fire gives a glow to evening meals. Buffet-style meals introduce African flavours with Pan African dishes using fresh local ingredients and specialist dishes. Excluded from rate: A conservation Levy of R114 (including VAT) per person per night. This contribution will go towards the conservation efforts and the work of the Anti-Poaching Unit in their on-going wildlife protection efforts.

For a first time safari location it was amazing. Right next to hoedspruit airport but no plane noise. Great food, staff, lodgings and expert safari drivers who really made an effort to find the animals

We took our entire family to Kapama for safari. There are two safaris per day - one in AM and one in evening. Each time, we saw more and more amazing animals including lions eating a wildebeest, leopards (twice), dozens of elephants, giraffes, hippos running into the water -

We were in the new spa suites and these suites were very well laid out and very clean. There was ample food and quality was decent but it wasn’t the most elaborate buffet. There were few irritants like flies and insects all over food, lizards everywhere, occasional monkeys in

Free and very easy to see at the airport. Nelspruit is a tiny airport and their rep will spot you. Friendly. Just email the reserve to confirm dates and airlines timings and they will sort it all out.

Yes, but what we found was that you would have to skip one of the safaris or lunch. Things are ran pretty tight but if you are ok with missing one of the game drives then you can absolutely do it. I would contact the hotel as they have connections to book.

Yes - the water was fine at Kapama and there was plenty of bottled water available left by housekeeping. Regarding the gift shop -- they had all of the usual things you would find--souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, it was a nice shop(nice merchandise for a property like this). Regarding tipping - it is best(and most preferred by the staff to tip in Rands. You can add the gratuity to your account at check out. On our last day we tipped our server(who was WONDERFUL), our safari guide and navigator, the bartenders. The staff will accept US currency too since they have the ability to change that once in town. For the safari guide we tipped $20 US per day - and $10 per day for the navigator. The US dollar is VERY strong in South Africa right now. I felt that we had a hard time spending money while we were there. Enjoy -- it is a wonderful experience.
