We stayed at Phinda for 4 days, including 7 game drives in the weeks before Christmas 2016. Phinda was recommended to us over other game reserves or Kruger for the combination of service, accommodations, and the virtual guarantee that you will get to spend amazing time with the animals. Our family of 4, including an 11 and 13 year old,...

We have just finished a 4 night visit to Phinda Forest Lodge. We absolutely loved the whole experience. The rooms are lovely and private and almost disappear into the forest. The game viewing was brilliant, we saw pretty much everything and the sundowners and Amarula coffee provided lovely breaks on the morning and afternoon game drives. Our truly brilliant ranger,...

The moment you drive through the sand forest area you know you are in a special place. The general dining/relaxing area is unbelievable and the service is top notch. Then you get to your rooms and your experience gets taken to the next level. The rooms make you feel like you are right in the trees due to the glass...

Very peaceful. Rooms are fantastic. A little disappointed with the dining area and menu but despite that, a true gem. Good game viewing and experienced guides made it unforgettable. Friendly staff and service was good. Definitely return.

Helpful, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Excellent accommodation and superb food. Early morning and late afternoon/evening safaris in comfortable trucks gave a close-up view of many wild animals. Elephant, Lion, Cheeta, Kudu, Impala, Giraffe and Warthog to name some. Guides well informed and attentive at all times giving a secure and safe experience.

Phinda might also be called “Land of the Cheetah”. We heard they sometimes transfer them to other private reserves to help re-stock and improve the breed. We certainly saw a lot of cheetah at Phinda. We saw six 20 month old cubs with mom. We also saw two eight month old cubs with their mom including an interesting encounter with...

Wow! And yes, I'm not easily wowed if you've read any of my other reviews. This is a gorgeous place, a special location with interesting ecosystems, and fantastic service. The rooms are little houses, totally separate from each other out in the bush, beautifully decorated and appointed, kind of a Japanese zen style, no detail has been missed. I wish...

We spent two nights but regretted not staying 4. Game drives were well organised with knowledgeable driver and ranger. Missed the Leopard this time but means I have to return Dinner and drinks were served in sand forest which was good and we were joined by our ranger. Lots of good food during the day to avail of. Bedroom was...

This was such a great experience that I don't even know where to start from in order to describe it... The "room" is a gorgeous huge lodge in the middle of the forest, quite hidden from the other ones, with a great veranda, big bed and unbelievable bathroom, with shower and standing bath. The staff is friendly and takes care...

Forest Lodge is stunning. The glass walls give you a feeling of being within the forest but still private. Game drives were great! I stayed 3 nights, and over the course of 6 drives, saw a pride of lions, cheetah (mother and two cubs), rhinos, giraffe... one of my favorite memories is sitting with a drink in hand in the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set deep in the heart of a rare and beautiful dry sand forest, the award-winning Forest Lodge fuses architecture and conservation. The lodge was hand built by local artisans, with a minimal footprint on the forest floor – not one tree was felled during construction. An exquisite contradiction, floor-to-ceiling glass walls invite the forest inside, while the dense tree canopy shelters and provides privacy. Floating on stilts above the forest floor while dainty suni graze below, the 16 Zulu Zen suites blend harmoniously into the dappled shade. ... more   less
