We have just returned from our 7th stay at this great guesthouse. Louis and Annette are the most excellent hosts you could imagine. Friendly and warm and very relaxed. The pool is probably the best there is to find in South Africa, the food is of good quality and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Every time we settle... More

This was our 6th stay and all I can say is it gets better every time. The rooms are huge and superb, every room has 2 sun loungers, a table with a sunshade and 2 chairs, so you have the choice of relaxing by your room, or you can stroll down to the pool area, (the pool is 25mts long... More

Sometimes you discover a place so special, that you don't want anybody else in this world to know about it. But that is not fair. Not fair to other travelers and also not fair to the people who make a place so special. Louis and Annette (the hosts and more than that) deserve that everybody in this world knows about... More

I found the hotel via Google Earth and checked by Tripadvisor. Due to the reviews we've decided to stay a night at the Lodge on our way from Knysna to Swellendam. And we've not been let down at all. Already the drive from the N62 to the Lodge is stunning, the views, indescribable! It's not in Calitzdorp at all, it's... More

We have discovered this beautiful, quiet, friendly and comfortable guesthouse some years ago and we have been back every year since, increasing our stay every time. We had the opportunity to fly down to SA last November for 9 days and we made The Red Mountains our sole goal. We just love the peace and quiet, the stunning scenery, the... More

This is an absloute gem of a place to stay. The setting is stunning with awesome 180 deg views of the red stone hills from your room (from your bed!) The rooms are spacious, beautifully furnished, and immacualately clean (and air conditioned for those baking hot days in mid summer). Use this place as a base to explore the Swartberg... More

Review of Red Mountain Lodge by 'ExplorerWesternCape.' Serendipity and the Web led me to a traveller's gem hidden off the R62 near Calitzdorp, Western Cape, South Africa. To those in the know, Calitzdorp is generally dubbed, "The Port Capital of South Africa," a title it richly deserves. I, like many other R62 travellers, have long admired the unusual 'red hills'... This is a small guest house - only 5 rooms - in a beautiful setting. The accommodation is excellent and the food great. The great drawback is that there seem to be no front of house staff. We arrived and there were no staff to be found to greet us and we had to be shown to our room by... More
