Of the three Belmond Safari lodges, this is the one that I liked the least, the rooms were nice but smaller than at the other properties, and the rest of the property is less scenic than the others.
Also, the management catered to this loud, rude, obnoxious family from New York who acted like they were alone in the place. insisted on having their own Jeep, instead of putting them in their place. I was even asked to switch our usual morning ride to the afternoon to accommodate them, because they didn’t want to ride with anyone else! Outrageous.
As for the game rides themselves, for the price one pays at all 3 of the Belmond Safari properties, they should be a little more flexible about the times; instead one is told to be up at 5:30 for the morning drive which departs at 6:30, and then again at 4 or 4:30 for the afternoon drive, a time of day which is very hot.
I would have preferred later and shorter outings. The food was ok. Nothing memorable. The staff was very friendly. And we saw some great leopards, lions etc. but overall we preferred the other two lodges.

I will try to put into words how amazing our experience here was, but it will be hard. From our beautiful singing welcome to our rooms to just everything there, we had such an incredible time at Savute Elephant Lodge.

We were picked up at the airstrip by our wonderful guide, Richard, who immediately made sure we had a good flight and we’re ready to see some amazing animals. We were then welcomed by the beautiful warm singing and more delicious welcome drinks. We were then greeted by the managers, Maps and Baker, who debriefed us on the property and took us to our rooms.

Our rooms were nothing short of beautiful and had every amenity you could need to be comfortable. There was air conditioning as well as heat when it got chilly at night to ensure being as comfortable as possible.

Our guide, Richard, was so so amazing. He was enthusiastic, funny, smart, and truly cared about our experience. He went out of his way to make sure things were going well and we loved when he joined us for dinner. Belmond is lucky to have him as part of their team.

The food was incredible and there was always something for everyone. All the staff were just amazing and caring and I truly felt as though they were my friends.
The wifi only worked in the main reception area but you’re too busy to be on wifi so it was not an issue for us whatsoever ever.

Overall I could not recommend Savute Elephant lodge more to anyone who is looking for a truly luxury experience and seeing some of the most incredible animals ever. Belmond really did it right here!! I cannot wait to come back and spend more time with the staff and see more animals. We didn’t want to leave!!

Our last stay of the three Belmond Lodges with our 3 children was at Savute Lodge. We immediately felt like we had arrived on another planet; the camp is much more remote and wild then the others. The solitude, along with the true bush camp decor, give you the feeling that you are truly camping in the wilderness, albeit in much added luxury. The staff made us feel as if we were being welcomed home each time we arrived back at camp; Baker and Mapps run an amazing team here! The game drives are longer, as the reserve in quite large, but the wildlife is aplenty. Thanks to Sam for his relentless tracking on our last day to follow the call of a male lion and we came across him relaxing after having just feasted on a young elephant. The food was fabulous, the outdoor showers amazing and the watering hole just in front of the lodge affords you additional opportunities for wildlife viewing all day and night long! Absolutely stunning resort and amazing experience!

A group of us spent three days at Belmond’s Savute Elephant Camp. The experience was underwhelming, to say the least. While the game drives and animals seen were excellent, and the guides outstanding, the experience at the camp itself left lots to be desired. The food was fine. But the temperatures were hot, around 100 degrees Fahrenheit every day and the tents were barely air conditioned, leaving temperatures inside the tents exceeding 80 degrees in the evening. Internet was unavailable throughout our visit. We were told that the camp could not have a larger solar panel array to power the camp, and thus the AC was under powered. Our next stop was Belmond’s Eagle Island Camp, with the same hot temperatures, but at Eagle Island, the AC worked beautifully, and the WiFi was mostly OK, although still below international luxury standards. The solar array at Eagle Island was 3 times the size of the one at Savute. There is simply no excuse for the woeful AC and non-existent WiFi!

I have stayed at many Belmond properties. They have usually been among the very best properties I have visited. Savute Elephant Camp is a legendary luxury camp and I looked forward to staying there and told my friends it was considered one of the finest safari camps in Africa. For us, the the steep price we paid, it was anything but. I do not believe this was the fault of the camp staff, who tried their best to be accommodating. The offered me a complimentary massage, but then the massage tables were the old-fashioned ones with a slit in the table for your most and no adjustment for one’s head at all. Because of shoulder and neck problems, I need a adjustable table in order to have a massage. I have been to numerous remote properties with massage capabilities, and all had tables with adjustable head rests. The ones at Savute I haven’t seen anywhere for years, and never at a Belmond or comparable property.

Fortunately our experience at Eagle Island and two other stops on the trip somewhat made up for the disappointment at Savute, but Belmond has some serious work to do to get Savute straightened out. Also people should know that in addition to the AC being very underpowered (we had a journeyman AC technician as part of our group of friends and he knows what he is talking about) but tents have no insulating value for either heat or cold,. They may feel a bit more authentic safari experience than a solid building, but you need a lot of heating and cooling to keep a tented structure comfortable. Those making reservations should check expected temperatures for the time of year they plan to visit and schedule accordingly.

This was our second stop on our 6-night ‘Grand Tour of Botswana’ package and I can’t decide which lodge I enjoyed more because they were both excellent but in different ways.

We were in room #4 located directly in front of the elephant watering hole. This gave us a chance to sit and watch hours of activity right from our balcony. Although the rooms at this property are a tad smaller than the ones at Eagle Island, the light colors used throughout the property made for a very relaxing environment.

From the meals to the spa to afternoon tea and happy hour - everything was seamless. On our final night at the lodge we happened to be the only guests and the staff went above and beyond to surprise us with dinner service from the privacy of our balcony.

Thank you our guide John and the entire Belmond team for making our trip memorable. We hope to return in the future.

This place is incredible! From the moment you arrive, there are elephants and giraffes and buffalo right there by the deck. The rooms are gorgeous with everything you could ask for, and a private patio to sit on and enjoy the view. There is a "Hide" that you can visit, where you are just feet away from the watering hole, and it is amazing!
Our guide Goms was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and the plants, and the history of the area, we really loved every moment both out on game drives and back at camp. Early morning game drives come with blankets and "bush babies" to keep you warm.
The food was delicious and we tried quite a few new dishes.
The entire staff is welcoming and happy to help with anything you ask. Really cannot say enough about the Savute Elephant Lodge, it was magnificent.

Is there a word that implies more than epic? What a wonderful gem of a place. The lodge is very comfortable and well equipped. Don’t forgo the outdoor shower; turn the lights off and shower under a sky full of stars. WiFi is only accessible at the main area but if you’re there to get away, it’s certainly no bother.

Our guide was Obie. He is so very knowledgeable about the animals, flora and fauna and also taught us much about traditional Africa. We saw herds of elephants, zebra, giraffe, impala (of course), lions, leopards and we actually saw a cheetah take down an impala. I can’t say enough about Savute Elephant Lodge.
As well, get a massage by Kenny…..she is magnificent!

And the food…..I’m gluten free and they accommodated me beautifully. Muffins, deserts….sooo very good.

I want to bring my grandson (10 years) to Africa and I think this would be a good place.
Thanks to all!

If I could give this lodge more than 5 out of 5 I would. Located with a view of elephants in a waterhole the rooms were excellent with air con, private frig and plenty of drinking water.
We were woken each morning with a flask of hot water to make tea. The meals were exquisite. I don’t know where the chef learnt to cook. Meal times were when you wanted them not a rigid time.
Our guide, Moses, was knowledgeable, ,enthusiastic and imparted information with having to be asked. He taught us how to track and nothing was too much trouble . He even showed us a bushman’s painting two thousand years old because one of our companions asked. I could go on and one about Moses and this lodge. I will cherish my memories.

Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge was Extraordinary! It was such an adventure. The Lodge was beautiful as well as the rooms. Within the first 10 minutes of arriving to the camp, we saw a variety of animals right in front of the deck and our room. Our last night we saw 3 male lions right across from our room! The surroundings were beautiful. Everyone was so friendly at the lodge, we were even treated to a concert and outdoor barbeque our first night. The food was wonderful!

Kops, our guide was Brilliant! His ability to track animals and use all of his senses and knowledge to find animals on our game drive was amazing. Watching him was almost just as fascinating as seeing the animals. We were able to see and observe a diversity of animals and will carry those unforgettable experiences with us forever.

Thank you to EVERYONE at Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge!!

Cool that they have an elephant waterhole right in front of their property where guests could enjoy viewing them while sipping their drinks. However, besides that we weren't too impressed of the how the lodge was run. You have the staff (from kitchen etc) hanging at the bar area having a conversation and having drinks too made it a little awkward for the rest of us around the lounge area. Food too could really use a lot of improvement. Hard after coming from Mombo Camp to this.

Dear saerah1, Thank you for your review and we are so happy that you enjoyed viewing the elephants from the deck and lookout hide. Our guides are encouraged to socialise with our guests at the end of the day to share stories and interesting encounters, however this should not be making our guests feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately our lodges are temporarily closed, however we will share your feedback with the management team as soon as we have the team together again. Warm regards, Louise

The spare bed is placed in the front corner area where the chair and floor lamp is located in the pictures. It could suitable for two small children, but only one teen/adult. Game runs happen morning and evening year round.

Hello, thank you for your questions. We do sometimes turn the generators off during the night, but if you have a specific request to keep it on for you, we will most certainly do so. Guests will often stay for 2-3 nights per lodge, as each of our lodges are located in a different eco system, so it's a good way to experience the different parts of Botswana. The flight time between the lodges are approx 30-40 minutes. These flights are so scenic, and you will enjoy seeing the landscape and wildlife from the air. The flights are also air-conditioned once airborne. Hope to welcome you at our lodges in the near future. Warm regards Louise

Dear Quest54029946529, From LVI airport, you will have to take another flight to Maun, and from here a private charter flight will take you from Maun airport in Botswana to our private airstrip nearby the Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge. The private charter flight can be booked for you by our reservation manager at time of booking your accommodation with us. The prices vary depending on the time of year and amount of passengers booked. We use Mack Air for the private air charter. From the private airstrip, our guides will collect you and drive you through to the lodge, and this cost is included in your accommodation rate. The drive from the private airstrip to the lodge is approximately 20-30 minutes in a 4x4 Land Cruiser. Warm regards, Louise

Morning, we offer two game drives daily at Savute, the first leaves after morning breakfast from around 6h30 (depends on the time of year) and depending on what you see out on your game drive, it's typically 2-3 hours long. Then we return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta, and after high tea in the afternoon, there is another game drive from 15h30 until sunset, and we have to be back at the lodge before sunset to comply with park rules, which is around 17h30, also depending on time of year).

Dear GrandmaAudry, You are correct. Our lodge is located in the Savute region of the Chobe National Park, and we are restricted by park rules to stay on the permitted roads and we have to be off the roads by sunset. We do have a permanent watering hole infront of the lodge and as the Savute channel has dried up, this watering hole attracts a variety of wildlife in full view of clients. The Savute area is also the destination of choice for wildlife filmmakers to shoot documentaries. Nat Geo wild's films "Savage Killers' and "Fishing Leopard' were filmed here, and currently "Savage Kingdom' is in production. The area has two strong lion prides in the area, it really is Africa at it's best. However we do offer night drives and 'off road' game drives at our lodge bordering the Moremi Game Reserve and here we are located on a private concession which allows us the freedom to explore the area a little more. I do hope this information was helpful? Best regards Louise
