Words cannot express just how good this place is and the staff are what really sets this lodge apart. From the airport pick up to the drop off I cannot find anything negative that I would like to highlight. Everyone one (Staff and guests) were all amazing, friendly and welcoming. Accommodation was awesome and view from the deck was stunning. Game drives were plentiful and varied and really only came back to eat and sleep! Nothing was too much trouble and always plenty of management and staff around to ensure a smooth running camp and attentive service. Thanks guys Julian

A really enjoyable stay. Great personal touches all round. Tof and Kidde run a great team and were always there. Our guide GB was excellent despite our many requests to stop and look at birds! Lion sightings were great - seen on 3 out of 4 days despite the dense foliage this time of year. The food was also delicious with efforts made for our vegetarian needs. Jack the night watch was great making sure we were safe! All in, a superb experience.

We loved our stay at Muchenje. The lodge has a wonderful family feel from the family meals to the amazing care provided by the staff. What a great place to start our trip in Africa. The safari guides - Tips and Lips - were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. The lodge is situated perfectly in Chobe - the views are amazing from the resort and the animals are right there! We saw a leopard 50 meters from the front door on our first trip out! We'd come back in a heartbeat!! Thanks to the whole team at Muchenje for an amazing stay!!

Muchenje Safari Lodge is gorgeously situated with a fantastic view onto the river. The chalets are large, very clean and have all the comfort you are looking for. What we appreciated most was the extremely friendly, family-style atmosphere, which included guests and staff alike. We also enjoyed the excellent cuisine, which offered plenty of choice for both, meat lovers and vegetarians. The game drives with K.B. were amazing!! Particularly the boat ride on the Chobe where we watched many, many hippos, elephants and crocs - as well as all sorts of exotic birds. Many thanks to the Muchenje Team for making our trip unforgettable.

Hallo 135mareikem. Thank you for this very nice review. We are happy to read that we, as the Muchenje Safari Lodge Team, managed to make your stay with us, so memorable. No doubt, you have been sorting through photographs by now and i hope you got some good ones. This area has become quite popular for wildlife, as it is a bit quieter on the Western side of the National Park, so sightings right in front of the Lodge are becoming pretty good. So, whenever you feel the need to top up with some ellies and Hippo's again, we would be honoured to welcome you back. Keep travelling and take care.

Muchenje was our favorite among the three safari lodges we stayed at on a trip — the others in Maasai Mara (Kenya) and the Serengeti (Tanzania). There is a top review by someone named Ling on Trip Advisor. Read that review; every word of it reflects the experience we had here. Except that since we were here in late November / early December, there were more insects around than Ling experienced. The lodge does a good job of managing the insects in the evening, e.g. by keeping lights low and shifting dinner a bit earlier. This was the only place we stayed that had in room (in cottage?) wall mounted A/C, which we greatly appreciated when taking a daytime rest. The showers and laundry service were first rate as well. My daughter and I both have some food allergies, plus she is a pescatarian, and they catered beautifully to these restrictions. We saw a lot of animals, including lions and a gorgeous female leopard, whom we observed at close range for more than 10 minutes! Our guide, Malippa, was extremely knowledgeable. I have an undergraduate degree in zoology and I still learned so much from him. I have never been a birder, but might become one now since he helped me identify more than 50 bird species in our three days here. Truly a wonderful stay at a wonderful place. I would love to return someday.

Dumela 463maggiet Wow..!! Thank you for this wonderful review, we are truly honoured by the comparison. With Muchenje Safari Lodge's Main building and Dining area open to the outside, we do have to make some adaptations regarding dinner-times, to minimize the 'risk' of dive-bombing Kamikaze insects. Luckily it does not last long. Your guide Malipa and you (as a non-birder) have managed to see a respectable 10% of Botswana's bird-population...that is nothing to scoff about and hopefully it has turned on a bigger interest. We would love to welcome you back and show you more of the diversity of wild animals and birds, that make Botswana so special. In the meantime, Keep travelling and take care

The lodge gave us an amazing introduction to what a safari is all about. Our room and the main lodge were very comfortable and clean and the food varied and tasty. But the highlight was getting into the park and seeing all the wildlife . Our guide Tips was fantastic. He went the extra mile to track down the animals. We didn’t get to see a leopard until our last drive which was fantastic!

Hi there Fiona311260 Short and Sweet - Thank you so much for your review. Our guides are really very good and knowledgeable and Thapelo (or Tips) is proudly one of them. Obviously, the whole Muchenje Safari Lodge Team, will work towards a common goal to make all our guests as comfortable and happy, while staying with us.....but it's the guides that get the most important task of finding the wildlife. We were very happy that in the end, you did manage to see that elusive Leopard....a highlite for all. We would love to welcome you back in the future, to have another shot at finding more leopards. Until then, take care and keep travelling.

From the moment we pulled up at the Muchengie our amazing experience began. We were over whelmed with the view from the lodge, where straight away we could see zebra, elephants and a whole host of other animals roaming across the plane. The view is truly breath taking !! The lodge is perched on the top of a ledge / hill and its design allows you to see for miles from your room and the communal area. The lodge is all made of huge wooden beams and natural material so feels very authentic and in keeping with your surroundings. It has big comfortables sofas and seating in the bar area where we all gathered with other guests to discuss our rides out and animals we’d seen, very sociable and pleasant. I can’t express how friendly the staff are and how welcome they make you feel. The managers Kitty, Toff, Jost and Yame are so hospitable and regularly eat with you and are on hand to chat and answer any questions you might have. Rambo our guide was excellent, he was so knowledgeable and accommodating, he really made our time out on the drives fun and exciting. We were also very lucky to have seen leopards, lions with cubs, sable which are apparently very rare, zebra, giraffe and hundreds of elephants to name but a few. The food was superb and plentiful and the home made ice cream is to die for. Our visit to the local school was very moving and although we gave a donation to the school, I really wished I had packed for a purpose and taken some useful and much needed things with me to give them. All in all I cannot recommend the Muchengie enough, if you’re looking to experience one of your best holidays ever, this is the place to go. I’m not normally a big reviewer but this place gets a gold star for everything xx

WOW..! A4213UWjennifert, thank you. For someone who is "not normally a big reviewer" This review is both Big and wonderful. Thanks again. The founding father of this Lodge knew what he was doing when the development-ideas were voiced, approved, designed and eventually....built. Yes, Muchenje Safari Lodge has a most fantastic view, with open horizons that stretch until they disappear. We are proud that we have very knowledgeable guides and Rambo is one of them, always looking for the animals on the guest's 'wishlist' It sounds as if you found your ' home-away-from-home' so maybe we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not-so-distant future? Take care and keep travelling.

Highly recommend. I've been to 8 different safari lodges in southern and eastern Africa and this lodge ranks as 1 of the top. The accommodations are very confortable-great bed and shower pressure. The air con is welcome and strong. There's mosquito netting and bug spray in each room. The room decor is lovely and rustic but very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. I did not find it outdated. It felt like a well-appointed safari lodge and not a run of the mill hotel. Each room has a beautiful view of the Chobe river and plains, along with a large sitting area, where you can watch Zebra, giraffe and elephant. The animals often cross through the lodge grounds so at night the there is a night watch to ensure you get to your room safely. The open air lounges are very comfortable with lots and lots of leather sofas and the bar is nearby. Eating is family style so you get a chance to meet others. Kiddy and Toff are the managers and are extremely welcoming and enjoyable to talk to. I can't say enough abut the staff, including Wame and Jost and all the servers, housekeeping and night watch. Everyone is so kind and wonderful at hospitality. During one night of our stay my brother had his birthday and they set up a private table for our party with champagne. Then they brought out the bday cake at the end of our meal. The whole staff was singing a Botswana song and dancing and the other guests came out to help clap. It was surprising and so special. Just an example of the extras this lodge does for its guests. The guides are fantastic. Tips was our safari guide and knew where to find the leopard and we did. It was thrilling. He was great at finding the lions and cubs and positioning the jeep so that we always had great views. Lips was our river safari guide and he was also fantastic. Both he and Tips also knew their birds. We stayed for 3 nights and had a remarkable time. We met lovely people from all over the world and had a truly magical time staying at this true gem on the Chobe

Dumela Mamagoose75. Thank you so much for this lovely review. It was truly lovely to host your party and the fact that you all enjoyed it so much, tells me that the magic that is Muchenje Safari Lodge is still going strong. The surprise Birthday choir was indeed really nice and the other guests loved being part of it. Just like a family would. Our Managers, our Guides, the Chefs, as well as the whole Muchenje Team, all have one goal - Making our guests feel at home....and i think we succeeded. ;-) I sincerely hope that your future travels will include a stay here again, because Botswana still has many more great areas to show you, using Muchenje as your first or last stop. Maybe next time, it will be your own birthday we can celebrate. Keep on travelling and take care.

This is a very beautiful safari lodge. Each room/ lodge overlooks the flood plains where Zebras, Impalas, buffaloes graze the grass and baboons running free along the riverside. Sunset was beautiful at the deck of the main area or just outside our lodge. The room was very well maintained and comfortable. Lodges were all Aircon and windows were covered with mosquito netting. There was a ceiling fan and a big soft mosquito net for the bed. They prepared the rooms and set up the mosquito net for the bed by sundown. We would be trouble free from mosquito and other insects for our sleep. Totally love this! All meals and drinks (alcohol) were all included in the rates and laundry service as well. This was really great as you can get your clothes washed daily after your dusty game drives. There were many safari activities in the lodge. They would schedule as many activities as you can do! Morning drive at 5:30am, River Cruise at 11am with a picnic lunch on board the boat, 3:30pm afternoon safari drive, night drive after dinner 9.30pm. Our safari guide GB was very good and knowledgeable and we were able to see many animals including the more difficult to spot ones, like lions and leopards. By our 3rd safari drives, we had seen more than 20 lions, besides the many many impalas, elephants, hippos, zebras, and giraffes in all our drives and river cruise. A fantastic safari experience with Muchenje. The lodge was also a very cozy place where managers and guides would dine with all the guests in the house every evening. We joked and laughed and traded our safari experience at dinner table. We love this homely feeling. As this lodge has no fence, there was nothing to stop the animals to come into the lodge area. For the safety of the guests, we must be escorted to and from our lodges after sunset. This made us feel quite safe even though we were sleeping within the safari. As we were here during the dry season, with their diligent upkeep, we had no complaint about any bugs or mosquitoes ! If you do plan for safari in Botswana, Muchenje is highly recommended! Hope you will have an amazing safari experience like we did!
