Intimate Chitabe Lediba is a perfect game viewing base for families or small groups. A lediba is a lagoon that has become a waterhole, where a variety of wildlife comes to drink. Chitabe Lediba's dining area, lounge, and pool all overlook just such a vista. The sister camp of Chitabe, it lies on the other side of the same tree island and echoes many of its sibling's qualities. The same well-appointed canvas tents are raised on decks with uniquely styled interiors, but the smaller nature of the camp offers a more intimate experience, ideal for small groups or families. Highlights: Chitabe Lediba sports that classic Okavango Delta scenery, from palm-dotted floodplains to open savannah and woodlands. This mix of Okavango (water) and Kalahari (land) makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephant, which in turn support the larger predators: lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah and the rare and charismatic wild dog. The Camp is composed of 4 Tents (including 2 Family Tents): Spacious en-suite Meru-type tents, individually styled; outdoor shower with a view; family units withadjoining en-suite bedrooms. Experiences Include: Day and night game drives and Guided walks (on request)

Our stay at Chitabe was filled with variety, and some intense, game viewings. They warn you to not start your trip here as other stops may not be as full of action! Our first night in camp we joined up at the sight of a previous sighting of 4 lion cubs, with 7 females nearby on the hunt for impala. We caught up at the kill sight shortly after the lioness killed an impala, and the drama of sharing the kill was one of the most intense sightings I’ve seen. Our very experienced guide Phinley really delivered on excellent sightings including wild dogs, momma leopard and her offspring in a tree, interesting birds, almost every land based sighting you might hope for. Our guide was also good at positioning viewings for best light for photography.

The camp itself is very comfortable, situated at the edge of an area activity with giraffes, lions, etc. The common areas of the lodge were just the right amount of safari comfort for me, with Lediba having more family and group rooms than its slightly fancier neighbor, Chitabe camp. The food and service were excellent, as with all Wilderness camps.

It was an amazing experience, no words can describe our experience. Chitabe has been one of the best hotels we've stayed in our life. The Staff, The room, the location and amenities were beyond our expectations. We felt completely connected with nature. We have to say one of our highlights of our honeymoon was being pampered by the outstanding staff. Lesh, our guide made sure we spotted every animal possible and made our game drives so interesting with a lot of information, he definitely made sure we enjoyed our drives.

Chitabe/Lediba never disappoints! As a repeat guest (7 visits over the last 25 years), I can honestly say this is my most favorite place to vacation! From the moment you are greeted upon arrival to the last farewell hug, you are treated like family. Camp Managers Melosi and Joyce made sure of that along with their outstanding team. Our Guide Obie made our safari adventure just that…from birds and bugs to cats and dogs, all terrains, all weather, sunrise to sunset…thank you Obie for sharing your wealth of knowledge and your friendship! Can’t complete this review without mentioning the food. As a vegetarian, dinning out can be challenging. But the kitchen at Lediba offered up an amazing variety of fruits and vegetables and whole grains and beans, sauced and prepared to perfection! Even the “meat and potatoe” lovers amongst us were pleasantly surprised with all the delicious offerings! All in all, an excellent experience from start to finish…again! Thank you Chitabe/Lediba team and family! Until we meet again…

This is a wonderful camp with excellent game viewing. We saw many predators and as we love animal behaviour we could follow their "stories" drive after drive. The staff at the camp were so warm and friendly that after our two nights there we felt they were our friends. Our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable.

It is a fairly dry area with excellent plains for easy game viewing and there were few periods when we weren't watching animals. On the eastern side there is a very long and very wet area incredibly rich with plains animals as far as the eye can see.

It was very hot in the afternoons and the shared small pool had comfortable chairs and a huge shady area which was greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the great review, we will be sure to share your great feedback with all the staff in camp. Chitabe Lediba is smaller than its sister camp, Chitabe, and is the perfect game viewing base for families or small groups. Views over the waterhole give ample opportunities to watch the daily animal traffic. Beyond the camp, Okavango and Kalahari landscapes meet to form rich habitats. Thank you again Wilderness Safaris

Traveling as a group of 8 friends visiting in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. As their website says, this camp is perfect for a large group of friends or family. First, the staff is so welcoming. The hospitality, food, drinks and “surprise and delight” moments made us feel very special. Our safari guides were amazing!!! Decades of experience leading to great animal sightings and learning a ton about their habitat and habits. They truly love their job and it shows. The accommodations were beautiful with unexpected amenities such as weights, bands, and yoga mats in the room. Since you can’t go for a run or walk (yes, we could be prey) it was nice to have these items in the room. Having said that, never felt unsafe and staff escorts you when walking in the dark. All in all, luxurious with the feeling of being in Africa. I highly recommend this property.

We absolutely love this camp. Have stayed at the main lodge before, but Lediba is charming in it's old safari style and more intimate. Moalosi and his staff are warmhearted and we now feel like family when we visit. There is just not anything they would not do to make your stay better. This was our 4th visit and we plan to return next year.
The rooms were impecable like we have always experienced. The main area and especially the fireplace are welcoming and relaxed. We had 2 nights around the boma with traditional food, which was outstanding. Actually the food had just got better and better.
The gameviewing is to our opinion the best in the Delta and for that matter anywhere we have been in Africa ! Abundance and plenty all around the floodplains around camp. Everything just happens around camp. We saw 5 different leopards, whom this time of the year, sit up in the Sausage Trees (they flower this time of year) and wait for Impala to come and pick up the flowers. They jump straight out of the tree onto the Impala! Leopard sightigs are excellent at Chitabe. The Tsami Lion pride and the 2 big males, Limpy and his brother gave us a show every day, with the tiniest cubs we have yet seen. We could sit and watch their interaction for long periods. The one cheetah mother with 3 cubs, made a kill all by herself and took the cubs to feed. We watched them taking turns and eating until their bellies were huge round balls. Two Hienas unfortunately detected the kill and rushed in to take it. One went after a cub. The brave mother stood her ground until the cubs were safe and the Hienas had tackled the kill and dragged it away.
There are 2 groups of Wild Dogs. The group of 17, made 3 kill in one afternoon. The other group of only 4, are very succesful and we found them with full bellies too.
Whether you stay at Chitabe or Chitabe Lediba, the game experience is the same and without a doubt the best in the Okavango Delta !!
Thanks Moalosi, for always going the extra mile and for the warmhearted staff who make us feel special and as though this is our home. God bless !

This is a beautifully kept camp with excellent standards of Wilderness Safaris housekeeping and hospitality. Cleo, Joyce and the excellent team were kind and caring and looked after us marvellously well. Our great thanks to them.
The game was plentiful with leopards, elephants, giraffe, zebra, all manner of animals to see but the lions, the lions, stole the show. There were loads of them and active too. Mating, playing, hunting chasing impala. What sights we saw. Our great thanks to Lesh our wonderful guide for tracking them down.

From the time we weary travelers pulled up to Chitabe Camp to the time we departed, we felt like we were visiting friends. From the welcoming from Joyce and Moalosi, till we waved goodbye, we felt so at home. The camp was wonderful, the sightings were astonishing and the food was great. Since we had a beautiful photo of a leopard over our bed,we had a beautiful afternoon with a leopard! Nothing prepared us for our first evening game drive- a lion kill at dusk!! We finished up our visit at Chitabe with the most amazing mother cheetah and her 5 cubs!
Thank you all so much for your hospitality.

A stunning intimate Bush Lodge. There were pools in front of our suite which attracted an abundance of game including Lion, Leopard, elephant, buffalo and a massive assortment of antelope.

The area was teeming with game. I had lifetime best sightings of 2 cheetah kills (including the stalk, rush and kill), leopard mating by the Land Rover and lion on kills. Incredible birding.

Our guide Ebs was brilliant, excellent bird knowledge and a sixth sense as to where the animals were to be found and where they were moving.

A truly special experience in a lovely camp with fabulous attentive staff.

This was our third trip to this area in Botswana…once at Chitabe Camp and twice at Chitabe Lediba. We love to go back to this area due to the great game. We have always seen the Wild Dogs. You never have a guarantee but when making our decision we always want to come back here. The camp is casual and lovely. The typical Wilderness camp…always a lovely room, great guiding along with terrific food. We were so happy to see a guide we had 10 years ago at Savuti named Goodman. What three days great days with him. It was Steve’s birthday and we had a lovely breakfast celebration and continued the celebration at Vumbura Plains for a private dinner.
We highly recommend this camp and Wilderness..we have always booked their camps and love the hospitality.

Dear Mary, Thank you for your question and we look forward to welcoming you very soon. Yes Laundry service are provided and there is additionally washing powder available in the rooms should you wish to hand wash any of your items.below is the breakdown as can be found in our Camp Information Sheets which your Travel agent can give you a copy of. Laundry services are provided on a daily basis (weather permitting) and included on the Fully Inclusive rate basis. A mesh laundry bag is supplied for ‘smalls’ so that guests may place their underwear in this bag which will be machine washed and returned in the mesh bag. Some camps have Citro washing powder (environmentally friendly detergent) available in the rooms, while others can provide this on request. Note that laundry services may be limited at some camps as a result of water shortages. Thank you again, until we meet in September, Wilderness Safaris

Hi deolesh, Thank you for your enquiry. All our camps/lodges are situated in pristine and remote wilderness areas and as a result, we are required to generate our own electricity. This is achieved through making use of either solar power or generators which charge a bank of batteries and provide electricity to the camp/lodge through an inverter system. This, in turn, provides 220V power in each tented room for lighting and fans. Where generators alone are used, these run for approximately 7 – 9 hours per day (mostly when guests are out on activities) charging the aforementioned battery bank during this time. Power supplied to both the rooms and main areas is by way of alternating current (AC). Hot water is provided through solar geysers, eliminating the need to provide electricity to power demanding electrical geysers. In some cases, inclement weather may reduce the efficiency of the solar geysers and in the event that this occurs, camp managers can be contacted for alternative arrangements. Most Wilderness camps/lodges in Botswana including Chitabe have 220V plug points in the rooms which can be used to charge batteries and sleep apnoea machines, however, are not suitable for hairdryers and electric shavers, although charging shavers is possible. Where there are no plug points in the rooms, facilities for charging batteries are available in the main area. Please ensure that you bring a spare battery/ies as a back-up as power outages may occur. Serious digital photographers may wish to bring a mobile device for the downloading of images. All equipment needs to be compatible with 220V power or have an adaptor to convert the 220V to 110V. You are advised to bring a spare battery for use while the other one is being charged, a power converter/adaptor if applicable, cables for computers or cameras and additional flash cards. In cities and towns all electrical appliances run on 220V/240V. Standard outlets are round 3-pin, 15-amp plugs. While some camps/lodges can supply adaptors (3-prong round, 3-prong square, 2-prong round, 2-prong flat) it is advisable that you carry your own. We trust that this will assist you and we would also like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful safari when you travel to Chitabe Lediba.

Hi Do you have wifi in any areas of the camp? Kind regards Nicky
Answer from Wilderness
Johannesburg, South Africa102 contributions1 helpful vote
Hello Nicky, It has been a conscious decision of Wilderness Safaris and all its camps, for the foreseeable future, to refrain from providing internet and telephone access for guests at most of our safari camps/lodges. While a small number of camps/lodges do have internet access and/or Wi-Fi or mobile phone coverage (unavoidable due to either the physical location of the camp/lodge or signal being received from neighbouring countries and/or towns), we believe that the beauty of being away and surrounded by the wilderness, is the very fact that our guests are not in contact with the outside world. One key element to being out in the magnificence of the wilderness is the remoteness and inability to be disturbed by the inconveniences of modern communication. We would like our guests to experience life changing journeys by using their senses and connecting in a real way with the environment around them – whether it is their travelling companions, fellow safari enthusiasts from around the globe, our staff working in the camps/lodges, the wildlife or the scenery. A Wilderness journey that changes how you view the world in general and the wild places of Africa in particular. Many of our guests respond very positively to the liberating feeling of not being contactable, involved in work or global affairs. Naturally, should there be a need to communicate or an emergency, the camps/lodges will assist with relaying messages – a process which we have handled successfully for years. Thank you Wilderness Safaris Customer Care

Hello Rob, You are right Chitabe Main camp is slightly larger with 8 rooms whereas Chitabe Lediba is a more intimate camp of only 5 rooms. The camps are on the same concession and approx 100m (less than a mile) away from each other. The most distinguishing factor between the 2 camps is Lediba has 2 family (joined/ inter-leading) rooms. both camps allow children between the ages of 6 and 16 are allowed at both camps and if the family is booked at Lediba the children can be in their own room with their parents in the adjoining one (also a nice option for a group of four people). If you are booked at Chitabe Main camp with any children between the ages of 6 and 16 the children will need to share accommodation with one of the parents as minors are not allowed to room alone or without the presence of an adult. Thank you for your question, The Wilderness Safaris Customer Care Team
