Was looking for a dog and walk friendly venue to celebrate my husband's birthday for our first trip away since lockdown and couldn't have picked anywhere nicer. It is in stunning country sidein a pretty village with walks right outside the door and is a "proper" country pub. The staff really help make this a great venue: very friendly, very efficient, keen to help and really want you to enjoy your stay. We had one of the garden rooms, close to the llamas (you can book llama treks) and although small it was very nicely done with a small ensuite and a pleasant patio area. Due to Covid it wasn't cleaned daily but cleaning products were supplied and you just had to ask for more towels, toiletries and, always a nice touch, fresh milk for the tea and coffee. It was VERY hot during our stay so had breakfast and dinner in the garden (recommend the smoked salmon and scramble eggs). Dinner menu not huge , although the portion sizes are, but what we had was very good; my home cooked ham, double egg and chips, although a simple meal was good and also highly recommend the nachos. The garden rooms overlook the garden, albeit with a large hedge and being hot and summer, it was a little noisy (not a problem for me as I enjoyed the buzz of people enjoying themselves after pubs being closed for so long) so if you prefer more peaceful surroundings, suggest you go for one of the shepherds huts.

We have just got home from a fantastic mini UK break down in Surrey. We chose The Merry Harriers after having seen someone on Instagram stay back in the Summer. We chose the 4 night Winter Getaway break in one of their five cute Shepherds Huts located on site opposite the pub. They are all quirkily decorated and provide almost all you could wish for for a break with a little difference. All COVID safety measures were in place and we felt really safe. Face masks were always worn by us and staff and hand sanitiser was available on entry to the pub. Plus the track and trace app QR code.

One of the highlights being the gorgeous log fire inside the hut itself, which kindling and logs are provided for for free; perfect for Autumn/Winter stays. The underfloor heating just tops this up when the fire isn’t being used.

Nice touches like robes, a hot water bottle, a Nespresso coffee machine and toiletries were a lovely surprise.

We chose to eat at the actual pub for two evenings of our stay and of course breakfast is served here too each day. The food was amazing, with a great choice to suit almost everyone and to have something different each night. The “substantial” tapas board was incredible! To top it off, all of the wait staff were so friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Especially Mikey and Mia!

Just a couple of things let this stay down a tad, including dust and dirt around the hut itself, no way of emptying the log burner each day (a dust pan and brush would have been great) and some of the items like tea, milk and toilet rolls could have been topped up or new when we arrived, rather than having to ask for them. Also, we only had one robe when there were two of us staying. Finally, it would have been nice for the heating to have been on when we arrived as it took a little while to heat up on that first day/night.

Finally, we chose to go on their special Llama Trek adventure during our stay and we are so glad we did. They have a small farm of approx 7 llamas located just behind the pub, each with their own cute personalities and names. Clara, our trek guide, was lovely and knowledgeable as she took us on a 1.5 hour walk across The Downs. We managed to get to the view point too, which had amazing views. The llamas were fab, with such character and it really topped off the trip.

We will 100% be back one day and would totally recommend this for a lovely UK mini break. It is located only 20 minutes drive from Guildford and only approx 15 minutes drive from lots of National Trust beauty spots - including The Devils Punch Bowl. There are also some fantastic local pubs for dinner and a really cool pizza truck one village over too.

Thanks to everyone who made our trip special! 😍

A smiling welcome saw us shown to a table in their larger dining room and drinks were quickly and efficiently served. The lunch menu is extensive and whilst my wife had moules marinier, I opted for the novel fajitas burger. The moules and accompanying bread were well up to expectations and the chicken fajitas burger nearly defeated me - but greed won out.
Service is everything and it did not disappoint!

Just accross from the Merry Harriers Pub, 5 exceptionally presented Shepherd Huts hide. Circling a beautiful large pond and views that stretch for miles of fields, horses and wildlife.

Hut number one would be our home for the next 3 days. Surprising spacious and beautifully decorated, our perfect romantic getaway had begun with the complimentary bottle of wine, even a bed and bowl for the dog was laid out ready.

Hut highlights would be waking up in the morning and drawing the curtains to overlook nature at its best (photos will describe that better).

Each hut has a firebowl outside with logs replenished however oftern you require them.  Sit and watch the sun go down next the the fire with a gin from the bar (distilled 2 minutes down the road) and a game of chess.

One can easy be mislead into thinking the bathroom would be a squeeze. Far from it! You can easily fit two in the double rainshower, for a delightful experience!

Food.
Each morning, head over to the pub for a delightful brekkie.... never had poached eggs so good! Went down well with a glass of sparkling white from the vineyard just 15 mins away (Greyfriers Vinyard).

Sunday roast beef.... plentiful! The dog even had a lovely bowl of dinner all to herself.

Staff
This is the part I've been most excited to review. Jake the Landlord runs a tight ship which is evident at every turn. There realy is nothing they wont and can't help you out with. Service and friendliness is absolutely faultless. They really do go out of their way to assure the best guest experience. From replishing fire logs to a trip into town.

Out and about
Endless dog walks in all directions.
There is a larma trek here too but we ran out of time for it.

Just 15 minutes from Merry Harriers is Greyfriers Vineyard where we had a tasting tour. Highly recommended.

2 minutes walk from Harriers is The Village Spirit Collective Gin Distillery. Weve done a seperate eview for that!

If you're considering a break away for two from the hustle and bustle in a quite relaxed setting, then you just must come here! The Shepherd Huts are a trully unique experience which we will always treasure.

Thank you Jake and the team!
Faye and Rolls.

We were travelling home from a few days on the coast and found this online as a halfway point where we could stop for a meal - added advantage being that it takes Gourmet Society cards. Felt very safe - staff were welcoming and masked, tables distanced and wiped down after use. Menu a little limited, but enough to satisfy a family of four with one quite fussy eater. Service was speedy and food was piping hot.

We had a great evening staying in one of the Shepherd’s Huts with a group of friends. The huts are excellent with everything & more in terms of facilities & beautifully decked out with a very comfortable bed overlooking the pond. We particularly enjoyed the fire pit in the evening with logs provided & very nice outdoor chairs. The pub is in a wonderful rural location & being dog friendly has plenty of 4 legged visitors (as well as the llamas in the field behind). However the huts are very expensive & the cleaning was not up to standard, with a distinct smell of cesspit when sitting by the fire pit in the evening. The back garden is lovely backing onto the field & we had an evening meal (not included in the price) which was rather underwhelming & the service wasn’t the best, being rather slow & the staff whilst very nice, inattentive. Breakfast was included but the food was average, tea weak & once served, we were completely ignored & had to fight to get the bill. Whilst we had a wonderful evening, we wouldn’t rush back & even with improvements, the price does seem very high for what you get. We would return for a drink but not food or a stay.

Some friends and I were looking to go a cycling weekend, so we decided after some research to go to the Surrey Hills, the location seemed to be the best spot for us as some coming from London and myself from the South Coast nr Brighton. On the Saturday morning we all met early outside Dorking station and spent the day cycling, stopping off at various places and pubs along the way until we reached our final destination for the night, the Merry harriers in Hambledon.

After a long day cycling through the Surrey Hills, we were warmly received at the merry harriers. As we arrived a little later than expected, Mikey and the team were quick to show us our garden rooms and get us set up for dinner. We ate on our tables outside our garden rooms - a great option for us to relax tired legs after a long day cycling. We ate the sea bass, soup and pie of the day - it was all tasty and the local ale - Sheer Drop was excellent too.

Service friendly and welcoming. We had a great time and will be back again for our next trip.

Our stay here was a gift voucher to my husband for our wedding anniversary.
On arrival we were shown to the hut which was across the road from the Merry Harriers looking over a pond & rolling hills. The hut itself was deceptive as it looked quite small from the outside but was very well laid out inside giving plenty of room. It was fitted out to a high standard with good quality linens & towels. The bed was really comfortable & the peaceful setting ensured a good nights sleep.
Our voucher included a three course dinner at the pub which we enjoyed very much ... best roast lamb I've eaten in a long time. it also included a bottle of Albury Estate English sparkling wine from a nearby vineyard which was lovely.
We were greeted at breakfast by Martine who looked after us very well ... a delicious freshly cooked breakfast which set us up for the day ahead.
We had a really good time & look forward to returning in the future.

Our original booking was for a garden room but it’s idyllic location in the grounds of the inn was just too exciting for our (hunting nosed) dog and we soon realised she wasn’t going to settle. We therefore asked if we could switch to a room within the inn – it wasn’t a problem and thanks to Mikey the arrangements were quickly made.

The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. It’s a superb location for walks and the map given to us helped us make the most of our visit.
Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay, thanks to Jake and his great team.

I stayed here with a group of girlfriends for 2 nights. I stayed here last year for one night so knew it would be suitable for a post Covid trip. I loved it the first time but the Second time was even better. We stayed in a selection of rooms ....all of which were wonderful and comfy.
But what made the place was the staff - jake and his team went out of their way to make our trip a success - from making a birthday cake, organising a special surprise birthday dinner, providing us with copious wine and feeding us delicious food. They are all a credit to the place.

We want to return in the winter to enjoy the different season and the log burning fires.
