When you book your Gambia holiday at Footsteps, you can look forward to staying in one of the most beautiful, natural environments The Gambia has to offer. Why would you want an all-inclusive Gambia holiday when Our eco-credentials mean you’ll get the holiday you deserve, safe in the knowledge that the environment – and the people who depend upon it – are catered for too. Whether chatting with friends (old and new), enjoying the finest food and drink, or exploring the woodlands and beaches on your doorstep, Gambia Eco-holidays offers you the ideal place to relax and unwind. The Gambia has a relaxed attitude toward time. Things often run a little late. We recommend taking off your watch and reconnect with nature and your surroundings. When you stop worrying about being somewhere at a certain time life starts to reset. Just like a clock, ( no pun intended ). Eat when you’re hungry and sleep when you’re tired. Do as much or as little as you like and let Gambia work its magic.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is something very special about Footsteps Eco Lodge. David and Linda have created a magical oasis where you unwind, relax and re-charge. If you can tear yourself away from the glorious garden with the freshwater pool there's the beach to visit, other activities to enjoy and beautiful birdlife all around. The food is delicious, the accommodation very comfortable (we had a roundhouse for 2) and the staff are simply wonderful.

Thank you Matt for your review, I'm beginning to realise that our reviews are as much a reflection of the wonderful guests we attract as much as the job we do here. The team are delighted and we all hope to see you both again here in The Gambia!

On arrival at Footsteps, what struck me the most, the location of Footsteps has a wonderful, calm, welcoming ambience . Nothing is too much trouble for their dedicated staff from our arrival to the departure. The Chef even organised sandwiches for our early morning flight back to London. My roundhouses was very clean, bright, airy and cosy. This was my first experience of composting toilets, I am a convert, definitely more odourless than conventional flush toilets. Great having yogi's as neighbours. You can always pick up a special item from the local craftspersons who are resident at Footsteps. They will even make a bespoke item. Omelettes are made alfresco at breakfast, try the local "dish of the day" for lunch its a must. Dining in the evening was always something to look forward to, the bar staff serving our late evening tipple. The owner David was always on hand and dined there most evenings. The highlight of the weeks stay was the BBQ night, the food was good and local entertainment truly just amazing. The Yoga Shala nestled in the grounds is an exhilarating stroll to each morning - I arrived Zen. The freshwater pool and sundeck can make it enticing to just chill at the lodge with a G&T, however it is a leisurely 20 min stroll to to the local beach, do try to leave early and not at 2pm in heat of the day like I did. A taxi and guide was provided for our excursions to the fishing village and boat trip, busy local market and hustle and bustle of Senegambia. The Yoga trip exceeded all my expectations I will definitely be returning again to Footsteps. The staff made me feel like it was always my home. Thank you all

I had an amazing time at Footsteps! After traveling around the Gambia solo for a week and a half, Footsteps was exactly the oasis of peace I needed. Footsteps itself is beautiful and has stayed very true to its values of ecology and local empowerment. David and Linda were extremely welcoming and the staff very genuine and helpful. Gunjur is also a beautiful spot to explore away from the commotion of the tourist hot spots - the empty beaches of golden sand and the sunset over the Atlantic were spectacular! Staying at Footsteps felt like a lovely bit of relaxing luxury with a good conscience. Great place to stay, particularly as a solo traveler. I hope to be back soon!

Footsteps, nestled in beautiful gardens, is a short walk to the beach and was the perfect place to relax or birdwatch (great sightings even from the comfort of a sunlounger by the pool!). I travelled solo and greatly enjoyed the delicious evening meals which provided the opportunity to chat with other guests. David and Linda were extremely hospitable and clearly passionate about the work they do which is reflected in the staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to help. I could have stayed far longer than a week!

We have just returned from an amazing holiday in Gambia staying at Footsteps Eco Lodge. What an amazing place. Footsteps is located in a beautiful setting, plenty of walks and not far from the beach. Everyone at Footsteps went out of their way to make our holiday one to remember and they did not disappoint. The staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous and joining everyone together of an evening gave us the chance to meet other guests. Thank you so much David and Linda for your hospitality. We would not hesitate to return to your wonderful Lodge

We took a group of Yogi's to Footsteps for a Yoga Retreat, the mission was to relax and rejuvenate in a rural part of Gambia. Footsteps by all accounts exceeded expectations. The service was great, staff really friendly and helpful. The huts comfortable and the Yoga space nestled in the trees with adequate shade from the glorious Sun, was an added bonus. Not to mention the weaver, tailor and jewellery makers on site. The few issues we had were dealt with swiftly. All in all Footsteps is great place to stay if you want a peaceful, interesting and cultural visit as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Seni Gambia.

I spent over a week at Footsteps on a yoga retreat and I loved my stay! The place is an oasis of calm with birds singing and trees everywhere. The eco pool is great for a dip in a hot weather. The food was very tasty and freshly prepared every day. All the staff and the owners were caring, kind and friendly, and everyone went above and beyond to make my stay as pleasant as possible (and looked after me when I succumbed to a heatstroke - thank you!). The bungalows are rather spacious and stay cool despite the hot weather outside. I would go back any day :)

Spacious rondavels, firm but good beds. The composting toilet did a great job ie didn't smell at all. Food and service was very good, and free drinking water a great touch. We thought is was pretty cool that there were frogs in the pool at night and it proves that the water was totally clean for the local wildlife to take advantage. Do take time to have a good look through their web-site as there are plenty of tips for things to see and do, and some amazing photography. If you want to go upriver then the trip offered by footsteps has a great itinerary. We did a similar trip independently which is much cheaper if you are happy to brave public transport. If you go see the Chimp rehabilitation project, then you really have to see C4RC project too too. this is the Communities for red colobus and their half or full day trips are very interesting and fun. We thought it was a better visit than the chimps!

Thank you for your thoughtful review and that you liked our pool as much as the frogs. We are still the only lodge in Gambia supplying free from plastic drinking water and are so happy you found that to be a "nice touch". I also look after the website so am particularly delighted with your advice to "take the time to have a good look". The C4RC project is a relatively new addition to the itinerary and proving to be a big hit with our guests. I think its because its less touristy and more authentic, also due the superb rangers which work to protect the Red Colobus and their home. Our team hopes you will visit again someday soon! Happy travels...

Footsteps is so special. The location is amazing, deep in nature and a beautiful walk (20/25min) to the beach. It is a very relaxing environment, and there are lots of options to spend your time as you wish: you can sit and read your book, have a drink, do a nature trail, use the yoga facilities, do a craft workshop and so on. The food is delicious and they serve you with the best grapefruit juice when you arrive. Staff are really friendly and it seems to be a great place to work where employees are respected.
