The staff was wonderful (except on the Sunday shift). The trouble is that the hotel's infrastructure needs maintenance, so there's only so much they can do. They will help you switch rooms, but you basically have to choose what's most important - functional hot shower, a/c, not leaky bathroom...it doesn't seem you can have it all.

If you would like to relive the experience of being a tourist in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, this place is for You! Enjoy waiting for hours for towels. Promenade in the dirt and gravel gardens without plants. Pay outrageous prices for basic food and drink. Enjoy the only place in Ghana where the culture of warmth and gracious...

Spent a good 2 or so nights at this splendid (almost) lodge. The location is okay and it has the infrastructure for a good hotel. Nice little bar, swimming pool, airy rooms and in a quiet part of town. The breakfast is average, the staff are friendly and the menu impressive for a town like Tamale. Try their rice balls...

We were quoted at 200gh c per night only to find out at the end of the stay it was 300ghc. The hot water in the room didn't work.half the times the key card didn't work. And we found out our doors didn't lock anyway when a stranger walked in by accident. The pool filter didn't work so the pool...

Beautiful surrounding and an intimidating edifice. Very huge building with a lot of space. Great investment with a great location. Nice rooms. I took a standard room for a night. Entire Staff were nice but not professional. No one ever offered to help me with my bags. Room cleaning was a joke. Half done. Food was nice but limited choices....

One member of the staff here really provided a friendly effort, but that's the issue -- just ONE of them. This place had a lot of weird construction things going on and it seemed like poor construction overall. I have to say the air conditioning never went out more than a few seconds which was impressive considering the place was...

Rather like a post-apocalyptic dystopian-future hospital facility, tailor-made for a horror feature: labrynthine design, eerily empty, large spaces, and endless echoes. My first room was on the fourth floor in a truly abandoned ward; I was moved closer (ish) to a "suite" which was large and comfortable, and the A/C functioned well. Breakfast was a sad affair from the Soviet...

With all the charm of abandoned sanatorium, Modern City feels like it was built for a heyday that never arrived. On the up side, it probably has the best swimming pool in Tamale, and a gym. So that's good, no prizes for ambience in the dining room though.

The positive is about internet connection which was working while I was attending a two days workshop there. The staff at reception was also friendly. I chose not to stay there because of the comments made by other reviewers, I only came for the meeting and slept elsewhere. My colleagues who stayed there were indeed quite disappointed with the rooms.....
