The Hotel is a nice retreat from the burning heat of Bahir Dar. With a pool at its center, the Hotel is recommendable for families, business meetings, and for couples as well. The staff are very friendly and the food served (especially the local dishes) is delicious.

I have been to Bahir Dar three times on business for a couple of weeks each time. I have not stayed in the Papyrus but use the meeting rooms and eat lunch there every day. The food is excellent. There are nice gardens, a traditional restaurand and a couple of nice bars, one beside the swimming pool. The last time...

Located at the circulation junction of Route 31 and Arba Meter road, the hotel is on the south side of Arba Meter 100m away from the Addis Amba hotel. The Papyrus' building has commercial spaces that accommodate a fine chemist and a small supermarket as well as a clothes shop. The hotel is 1 of 2 in Bahir Dar that...

Shocking! We were picked up from the airport and arrived 20 mins later. The people are nice at this small hotel. When we were walking to our rooms we passed the "famous swimming pool' it was green water!- you could not see the bottom. The rooms were tiny and the door was made of plywood. the cupboards were flimsy and...

I am impressed with the improvement made both at the facility and service. New tiles; new management. Service both at the restaurant and reception is great. It is the only hotel in Bahirdar that has a swimming pool.

The Papyrus was probably one of the best hotels in Bahar Dar. Many years ago. Today it is in desperate need for renovation. However, for 600 Birr you can't ask for much. The rooms are large and so are the beds, but the bathroom in my room was in a very bad shape. Breakfast included mainly traditional Ethiopian dishes. I...

This was the first large hotel in Bahir Dar and it is now showing. It is poor even to Ethiopian standards (see my other reviews). Heavy brown furniture, small rooms, old small TV. Wiring exposed IN THE SHOWER (Room 112, see pic). The shower curtain was filthy. Dirty swimming pool - NEVER swim in a pool where you cannot see...

I had to show my marriage certificate to be allowed to stay in the same room as my wife because she was Ethiopian!!!!! I was told to buy new swimwear because my Calvin Klein Speedo was deemed " not appropriate". The pool had not been cleaned for months. The room was dusty. Never again ever!!!!

Just an FYI: I'm basing the rating on world standards not Ethiopian standards. I was warned the day before I got there that this was not a good option, but went through with it, which I regret. The rooms were filthy. The hot water heaters didn't work. The first room I stayed in had windows which could not be closed,...
