We chose to stay in a Lean-to at the Wilderness Campground for a post-peak foliage weekend in October. While the location was ideal (close to awesome hikes, secluded lake-front sites), our stay was marred by the poor customer service offered by the Loj. I don't typically have high expectations when I go camping, but at $45 a night, we expected...

Hi Hannah, I'm very sorry to hear of your less than satisfying experience and the poor quality of customer service you received. We definitely should have communicated to you regarding the closing of our seasonal bathrooms and I apologize that that was not done. We did credit you the half price rate for the second night of your stay. We...

Our family of four camped here for one week in July. It was the best camping trip we have ever had (and we camp at least 6 times a year!). The forest is a magnificent escape from the noise, smells and crowds of everyday life. The property was beautifully maintained. The spaces were large and well spaced. The bathhouse was...

Our family of four camped here for a week in July 2016. The last few years we have camped at many different campgrounds from Georgia to the Canadian Rockies. The Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake was a mixed bag. First the positives. The location is amazing for hiking the high peaks with so many trails just a few hundred feet...

I have been there last year and will come back this weekend. Cannot wait. The staff at the Adirondack Mountain Club is more than friendly. Everytime I contact them by email I receive an almost immediate answer. The website is user friendly and easy to use to make reservation. As for the campsite itself, the staff at the information desk...

My husband and I have come here 3 times. We live in Pennsylvania so get up to Lake Placid once a year for hiking. Our favorite thing about this site is the reservable lean-tos. They aren't very cheap but it's such a great experience to stay in a lean-to when you're not a backpacker, it's especially great for storing stuff...

Our camping experience at the Wilderness Campground had pros and cons. While we have camped throughout our lives in Canadian National and Provincial parks, we may have come with high standards. The property features many great amenities including spacious sites, a convenient location (close to trail heads and Lake Placid) and a relatively clean bathroom to share among the 32...

I was pleasantly surprised by the peacefulness at this campground. Our leanto had privacy, was right on the lake, a very comfy campsite. Above all, it is the perfect place to stay to hike many of the Adirondack high peaks. Can't wait to return.

AMC owned and managed. Bathrooms were clean. Loj is for guests only but firewood and ice are available for anyone. Campsites are reasonably well placed apart. We had booked a lean-to fortunately. It torrentially poured and it made the camping experience a little more bearable for my wife! However, the lean-to is a low profile so don't expect to get...

A small group of us stayed here for 2 nights in one of the canvas cabins. It was clean inside and the bunks were comfortable. The bunks were noisy when you move around though. Earplugs are an excellent idea for the bunk bed noise and the idiots who sit around the campfire smoking who knows what and laughing loudly until...

I've stayed here a couple of times, and always enjoy it. It's a no-frills campsite - there isn't a swimming pool, playground or activities planned for you. It's also a little back country feeling, as it's next to impossible to get a signal for your phone, although you can get free wifi near the Loj. There is a comfort station...
