Firstly, we stayed for one week in March this year and we did enjoy our holiday. However, this is certainly not a four or five star hotel so if you are to enjoy your stay here it's better to be realistic in your expectations. The hotel is well laid out, the food options are reasonable - I would advise trying the variety of options on the live cooking stations - as after a week, the regular offerings definitely became a little too familiar. Snacks and drinks available through the day and drinks into the evening. The beach is totally amazing and there are always plenty of sun loungers available by the pool and on the beach. Staff generally seem happy and do their best to please. Entertainment is there is you want it. Hotel is only five minutes from the airport but there is no plane noise. But here's why it gets 3.5 stars from me. The resort and amenities are tired and all need some TLC. The sun loungers need replacing - they are old and dirty - towels and bedsheets are threadbare, and the basic rooms are really basic (we stayed in a basic room for one night and upgraded (at extra cost) to a much better room for the remainder of our stay). Everything is self service, even down to filling up your water bottles from the water dispensers dotted around the property. Not a lot of help from reception staff when looking for anything other than basic info. The quality of the drinks was not the best. All cocktails pre-prepared and rather luminous colours - difficult to tell what was in them most of the time! Televisions promised many channels but only about half a dozen available. Not a major issue, just another thing that could have been easily sorted. So, in summary, please don't expect anything like four or five star resort, book a more expensive room and you'll be able to enjoy your holiday in windy - don't forget your towel clips! - Boa Vista!

This was my first time to Cape Verde and I will definitely go back to Boa Vista - it's a beautiful island, very unspoiled with the most amazing beaches I've ever seen. However, I will probably not go back to this hotel when I return. The positives: beautiful pool areas, gorgeous infinity pool, stunning private beach, easy availability of sun beds, great variety of food in the buffet restaurant. Large rooms with comfortable beds. Nice snack bar with a beautiful view of the beach. Before dinner, in the bar area there was a singer entertaining guests which was very enjoyable. Once a week there is a beach party where the entertainment team takes guests down for a dance on the beach. We heard that the one that was held just before we arrived was brilliant, but unfortunately the one we went to fell a little flat as the music wasn't great for getting people up and dancing. The first few dances were good but then it took a bit of a downturn and ended up really just being a party for the staff and most of the guests left. This was a shame as the beach looked stunning with the path from the hotel lit with torches. The negatives: the rooms are large, but very dated and basic. There is a fridge in the room but no tea/coffee making facilities. You get a bottle for water, but need to fill this yourself. The entertainment isn't great. This didn't particularly bother me, but if it's something you enjoy, I'd caution you to not expect too much! There's a lovely outdoor theatre with tiered seating and stage, so it's a shame that the shows aren't of a better quality. Some of the serving staff and bar staff are friendly and personable but most are not. I didn't often feel like a welcome and valued guest. This could be easily remedied with a little more training. There is a spa you can pay a small fee for - we enjoyed this but it was very basic indeed. It had a nice pool and jacuzzi and an outdoor seating area, and was nice because we were the only ones there apart from one other couple who came for about half an hour. It would have felt crowded if more people had come along. This is an Italian-owned hotel and we found that the staff and animation team catered more towards Italian guests. This is understandable, but it does feel slightly unfriendly towards other nationalities. We were aware that another guest complained about this while we were there and the team made a real effort to be more friendly which was appreciated. They are nice people and they work hard. I've put this as a 3 star review, but 3.5 stars would be fairer as we did enjoy our holiday - it just wasn't up to 4-5 star standard.

Booked this hotel through love holidays in the uk, having been all over the world on holiday we thought we’d try here as it looked warm and sunny even in early march.. Not really what ide call a cheap holiday at 2k for me and my fiancée. Upon arrival we found the lady behind reception to be a bit angry looking and very abrupt and unhelpful, we were given no information on the hotels amenities, restaurant opening and meal times, or any other activities, we found it impossible to book the a la carte restaurant, which we later realised only opened one day a week and served the same food as the main restaurant just in a slightly different combination so no loss there really.. the food in the restaurant was generally good, plentiful and also a good choice,so fair play to the chefs…. The room was basic and fairly clean, we’ve had much better but it did the job required of it… The Mosquitoe bites became a bit of a pain over the last 3 days for me but never touched my fiancée for some reason? God knows why coz she’s clearly better tasting than me… pool was clean n not very busy, it was cold but that maybe down to the time of year!! The Beach was lovely as where the views, the island is small with very little to do other than relax eat and drink, (you don’t come here for excitement or night life as there’s little to non)… the animation team aimed all activities at Italians it seemed but am not surprised as it’s primarily an Italian resort!! The worst thing was the look poor drinks and alcohol, all the drinks, hot, cold and alcoholic all had a very strange chemical after taste, except on odd times??, very off putting (we bought our own spirits as hotels could not get you even tipsy which was disappointing when you want to unwind)…this place should be a 3 star hotel not a 5 star no chance… we’ve been to lots better 4 star resorts over the years!! We went to relax and that we did so over all 3 out of 5 from us!! Also I forgot to say how the manager drops a £30 tax charge on you as you leave your room that’s not mentioned till last minute and the M&M car hire people in the hotel tried to rip us off for our deposit as the car was less than capable and had a bogged up exhaust that fell off due to old age!

So we have stayed here for 10 days now. There are many wonderful things about this hotel but others that you will not be prepared for. This isn’t a 5 star as you will be used to. It’s very old and tired. The beds are not comfortable and the pillows have long seen there day. There are no coffee and tea facilities in your room and if you want water you have to fill a bottle yourself. There is no rail on your porch to hang anything and the bathrooms are in need of a massage rip out. But. The staff are amazing. Reception moved us when we asked for another room as we wanted a sea view. They were wonderful. Housekeeping are a dream. They keep this place immaculate. Gardeners work so hard they all deserve a raise!! All the bar staff- apart from Elvis- are all just lovely!! Let me tell you Cape Verdeans are some of the loveliest people we have met. They are not only beautiful but kind and have the best humour!! The restaurant is packed with food and VOI is an Italian brand- boy can Italians eat!! There is so much food. Salads, fresh meat options, loads of cooked veg, fruit, fresh fish options every meal time. For us it was all a bit bland - but it’s all inclusive so you can’t please everyone. I was unlucky with food poisoning. Buy it was just me. The staff are amazing every day every mealtime. Just wonderful!! Then the beach is just perfection the views incredible. Everything you could want. The cat family here are wonderful. They are affectionate and very well behaved. I loved feeding the sparrows every day from our balcony. In March is freezing in the evening make sure to pack accordingly. We didn’t.

After reading some of the more negative reviews I was apprehensive about our visit this was our first holiday without our children and wanted it to be special. So let’s start with the negatives Is it 5 star not really. The rooms are a bit dated clean but old and in need of an upgrade particularly the bathrooms still trying to work out how to keep the shower at the right temperature. Entertainment wasn’t necessarily to our taste but there were plenty of places to sit and chill and enjoy a drink. Yes the resort is very much geared towards and Italian market but that had very little impact on our experience in fact it was actually quite nice. Positives Staff were friendly and attentive. Not been to an all inclusive for a long time but ,the food was enough to suit all tastes and plenty of it. There is enough variety of drinks included, including cocktails I’m now rather partial to a Mojito they certainly don’t scrimp on the measures! The resort itself is lovely gardens are well maintained and the views are spectacular. The atmosphere was good very chilled, music around the pool was nice and not excessive. The entertainment team work their socks off we didn’t join in the activities but there was plenty of them if you wanted to. All in all I’d say don’t come here expecting a five star resort and you may be pleasantly surprised. For the price I was happy with with what we got and would definitely come back.

Sadly this is a very basic hotel. I don’t know if it is typical of the island but the facilities, service, rooms, food are all around a 2star. There is a big pool and a big beach but that is about all there is positive. The rooms feel like a cheap eastern block room from 20-30 years ago. Hard wooden framed bed with old bedding. WiFi works at under 1mbps. Bathrooms are cracked and stained. Air con leaks. No mini bar, no kettle, no iron, no sofas, no luxury whatsoever. There is one buffet style main restaurant where the dishes are all empty within 30minutes. The food itself is very basic, limited choice and poor quality. I wish I could say the salad, hot dishes, deserts or in fact any of the choices were good but that simply is not the case. There is also a pool bar self service with some food but it is poor quality plastic burgers (no rolls), cheap soggy french fries, Margherita pizza bits and that’s about it. There is one other restaurant for extra fees with limited menu such as lasagne and still not very good. Drinks are mostly self service in worn plastic cups. A couple of bars will serve you the same thing again in plastic cups but there is no table service anywhere which is poor for a 4or5 star it claims to be. To put it in context I haven’t seen any hotel as bad as this in Egypt, The Canaries, Turkey etc. The staff are nice people but sadly most of them have no idea about customer service. It is a shame, this could be a nice hotel with a complete refurb, much better service and totally improved hospitality. Sadly I don’t believe this will ever happen.

To start with the positives.... the pool and surrounding gardens are lovely and well kept. If you are a cat lover then the feline residents are a joy to watch. There were plenty of sunbeds during my stay, and you could use those on the beach directly below the hotel at no extra cost. The hotel bar on the beach was handy for drinks and snacks when on the beach. The swim up pool gives a stunning view of the beach below and the surrounding coastline. Don't expect to be able to swim much as although the sea (and waves) look inviting for those that enjoy surfing and sea swimming, the prevailing winds and riptides preclude going in and the red flag was showing the whole 10 days there. The hotel is a short ride from the airport but not anywhere near anything else. You will need a car or taxi to the nearest town. I'd recommend taking a tour to see other parts of the island. The food offered in the main restaurant was varied, with a different theme each night and there was always a different fresh cooked pasta (including vegetarian) and fish on offer. Would recommend eggs for breakfast - fresh cooked omelettes were delicious. A water bottle is provided in your room which can easily be refilled at water stations dotted around the grounds. I only went to three of the theatre shows and one was dreadful so left half way through but would highly recommend the Cape Verde dancers who were brilliant - such energy displayed dancing solidly for over an hour! Shout out to Paulo, Lolly and the rest of the dancers (so sorry cannot remember all the names) for wonderful performances. Also enjoyed the aqua aerobics which took place most mornings so thank you to staff running these. Now the negatives..... the hotel has recently been taken over by VOI, an Italian company and this is the market that is clearly being aimed at. TUI has stopped using this hotel and with good reason. Everything is aimed at Italian guests - all announcements, shows, signs etc. Fine if you speak Italian but not otherwise. I did ask if there was a handout in English explaining the weekly activities and theatre shows but this was not available. Initially the animation staff did not speak to us (as they did to other guests) to invite us to the daily activities. This did not make me or my friends feel particularly welcome. To be fair, once our representative, who was staying with us in the hotel, had spoken to the manager staff attitudes did change and efforts were made to make us and other guests feel included but really if you are accepting international bookings from all over Europe you should not need to be told how to make everyone feel welcome. I had one meal in the a la carte restaurant which was not a pleasant dining experience and would not recommend paying extra for it. If you are allocated a room furthest from reception and dining areas (as I was) then expect a longish walk back and forth to your room. I paid extra for a partial sea view room which did give me a lovely view but the majority of these rooms are accessed by steep steps. (No lifts) Something to consider if mobility is an issue for you. For a hotel that is rated 5 stars, my room fell short of expectations in this regard. Décor is tired looking and definitely in need of a spruce up, and my sink had a large chip in it and cracks. The shower tray was also cracked. (See photos) Towels were thin and rough. Also note that if you like tea and coffee in your room this is not offered - you now have to ask for a kettle or bring your own travel kettle and supplies. Overall I did not have a pleasant experience at this hotel which was a shame as it is in a beautiful setting and could have been so much better.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The rooms are spacious and clean, the food was great at a good selection, the staff was really friendly and the entertainment team offered really impressive and good shows every night. The hotel is located just a 5 minute drive away from the airport and directly by the beach. We had a very peaceful stay here with loads of relaxation. I’ve read in reviews before that the walk to the dining area was really long for some guests - however our room was located close to the edge of the property yet we only had to walk about 2-3 mins to the dining area and swimming pool, so I wouldn’t say this was the case. Same goes for music by the pool, in comparison to other holidays we have been to there were loads of times there was none or quiet music playing, so I really wouldn’t say the music was in any way disturbing if you’re looking to relax by the pool. I think only thing to consider is that I would say this hotel is rather a good 4 star hotel than 5 stars. Due to flight cancellations we have been transferred to the Riu Touareg which is also classified as a 5 star hotel and you can see and feel a noticeable difference. However this doesn’t mean this is a bad hotel, for the money you pay this was a rather pleasant experience and I can recommend. If you look for that extra luxurious experience however, it might be wise to invest a bit more money during your hotel booking.
