Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our "splurge" hotel after our Rick Steve's Greece tour. It's one of the oldest houses on Santorini, loving restored and furnished. We stayed in the Venetian Suite, which I thought had the best balcony. You're right on the beautiful caldera side of Oia, and it was a treat just to sit outside. There is a constant parade of photo takers at all hours, but it really did not disturb us. Breakfast was served on our balcony, many options, all fresh and tasty with eggs made to order. Our host Takis was friendly and helpful, making taxi/porter arrangements for us, recommending places to eat, etc. His experience in the hotel industry showed in this little gem. Be prepared for hordes of cruise ship tourists as you walk around, though. There were times we just came back to the room to sit and enjoy the view.

My husband and I had a perfect stay. The location was excellent in the heart of Oia while still being private and quiet. The views from the patio were lovely. The room was very comfortable and we slept very well. The breakfast was plentiful. The service was amazing. We had to leave early one morning and a lovely breakfast was arranged in advance on short notice. Would definitely recommend staying here.

A cozy Inn like feel right in the bustle of the beautiful cliffs of Oia. A postcard view right from your window! We were met at a drop off point by Dimitra who helps run the place and their porter, who amazingly carried and pulled several heavy bags through winding streets, alleys and steps. It was quite impressive! After a short walk you get to the Sea Captain’s House with a view that takes your breath away! I was traveling with my brother and sister-in-law, we stayed in the Captain’s suite that has an upstairs loft. The spiral steps up and low ceilings in the loft are not for the very tall but easy to navigate with caution. Takis, the owner, was very helpful, friendly, and informative! He gave us suggestions of things to do, places to go and where to eat. Both he and Dimitra were the best hosts! The suite has a front deck area that overlooks one of the most photographed spots in Oia, it’s a constant parade of folk including brides doing photo sessions. They seem to be oblivious to us sitting there peeking at them over the wall, it’s quite good people watching! The made to order private breakfast was phenomenal! Fresh fruits, pastries, breads and made to order eggs daily. I can only imagine how busy it is during peak season. The tourist parade slowed down at night and early morning, so was nice and quiet for a good night’s rest! I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed!

The Sea Captain's House is located in the heart of the Caldera in Oia. We were thoroughly blown away by the view. Just over the balcony we constantly saw people lining up to take pictures right in front of the villa (though they couldn't see us unless they looked up). It's that amazing. Takis mentioned that our view is one of the most private balconies in the Caldera. Sea Captain's is also located at the bottom of the "U", so you get amazing photos of both sides of the Calldera, along with amazing pics of the Aegean sea. We stayed in the Sailing Suite. The room has a classical look and was very comfortable. The breakfast was also very good as well. Takis and his staff were also amazing and very helpful with suggestions on things to do. He made sure our 3 days in Santorini were packed with fun activities. You can tell that he and staff take good care of his guests.

I loved everything about this beautiful boutique property overlooking the caldera in Oia, Santorini. Our room, the Venetian Suite, was beautifully decorated and had all the charm that one would expect in a village like Oia. The Sea Captain's House was only about a block off of the main pedestrian street in (and thankfully for us only a few steps down). It was easily accessible to all things that the village had to offer, yet perfectly quiet at night. Plus, the view over the caldera from our private balcony was amazing. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious-no need to eat lunch after such a great breakfast. Best of all, though, were our hosts, Takis and Demetria. They helped with everything from getting a car and driver on the island to suggesting the best restaurants. I felt so comfortable in their hands. They are friendly, accessible, and willing to help in every way. Choose the 1864 Sea Captain's House in Oia, Santorini. You won't be disappointed!

My friend and I just spent an incredible week at the Sea Captain's House. We stayed in the lovely Venetian Room which included access to the terrace balcony where we enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast with awesome views of the Caldera and the town. Our hosts, Demitria and Tarkis were very warm and hospitable, and were extremely helpful in familiarizing us with Oia and its restaurants and sights. The hotel is ideally located near the town's center with easy access to the main pedestrian street with its shops and restaurants. I highly recommend it and would select it again if I have the opportunity to return.

You cannot beat the warmth and hospitality of Demitria and Tarkis. They meet you at breakfast with extremely tasty, hearty meals, made to your order (most days we skipped lunch). The added vegetables and fresh fruit were there as well. As soon as your shuttle brings you to the perimeter of Oia, an escort takes your bags, while charming Demetria escorts you to the hotel and room. The only distraction is the front row view of the caldera as it glistens in the sunlight. It is on the path of one of the most photographed points in Oia...so every time to see wedding, engagement, anniversary photos on any social media of Oia, you will see your room. Extremely well situated in the old part but very close to the new part of Oia. The evenings are perfect with the cool breezes and shiny shop lights when you stroll after a wonderful dinner with walking distance everywhere.
