What a beautiful oasis in the charming town of Oia. There are 7 cave suites (we were fortunate to be in Althaea), nestled down the hillside, with stunning views and outstanding service. From the porter hauling our heavy luggage (we were 3 weeks into a trip that included a cruise, so were loaded down) from the car, through the cobblestone streets, down the narrow winding stairs (and eventually back up again), to the spotlessly clean room with a breathtaking view, and the excellent guidance and recommendations of Vicky , to the extensive and delicious breakfast delivery each morning - it was all we hoped for. Yes, there are a-lot of steep, winding, uneven stairs and they can be slippery even when dry. Going UP is less fun and there is no way this will work if you lack mobility. Such is the situation at every property if you want to stay in this area. Also, there was the delightful breakfast, but the restaurant was understaffed and closed our entire stay, including for room service or snacks, and for the price of the hotel - I would have reduced this 1/2 star for this reason. Our first night we luckily had a heavy lunch as we were not aware of this, didn’t feel like trekking up the stairs, and just skipped dinner. Again for the price - alternative options should have been made available. Also do not think you will be seeing the famous sunset from this property. Why some reviews allude to this mystifies me as you will NOT see it from this property. You can see it nearby - but people flock here for this reason and walking among so many people to catch a glimpse of it not worth it. Instead the moonrise was spectacular, you can see the sunrise if you choose, and Vicky made us a dinner reservation on a rooftop location just minutes away, and on night 2 we enjoyed the beautiful sunset from there. Front row seat with a delicious meal! The pool bar was open and accommodating so drinks were plentiful. The pool is small and they do not provide loungers there (they should) but it is very nice and the view from there incredible. Our hot tub was amazing and we enjoyed it each evening. When you reach the top of the steps you can enjoy walking through the town and seeing all the shops, sitting at the bars or cafes and despite the crowds at times, very charming and enjoyable. Vicky also led us to Amoudi Bay and gave strict guidance on where to park so we could avoid getting stuck in the parking lot. We had an incredible visit and one of the best meals of our trip there. In the evening they just “appear” and put down your canopy on your balcony, and light a lovely candle. In the morning the candle has disappeared, the canopy is up, and breakfast arrives at your chosen time. Linens are nice in the room, there is a handy wet bar, the shower is great, and we never turned on the tv. Yes there are some ants - hard to avoid in this environment. They spray every couple days and if you tell them you’re having ants they’ll come deal with it as best they can. We just had a a few in the bathroom and nowhere else. We had a rental car but once we got the hang of it - parking wasn’t that difficult. ALL staff here top notch. We’ll be reminiscing about our stay here for years to come.…
