What an amazing way to start the NY. I went from December 30th - Jan 6th. It was a last minute decision to book flights after recognising I needed a reset from the cold weather and glutenous celebrations of December and Christmas. Kirsty and her team at 'Back to our Roots' organised a wonderful wellness retreat. We had sunrise yoga every morning, a home reef that meant you could just walk into the ocean and explore the underwater world, kirsty is a great diving instructor and the unlimited diving off the reef was an excellent deal! We would end our days with sunsets on top of Dunes, runs in the desert, evening yoga or animal movement classes/ callisthenics. Or the choice to just chill out and enjoy relaxation time. The team at Roots Red Sea where so friendly and helpful, they always had a smile on their face and excellent customer service. The food was wonderful and nutritious, a combination of falafel, fresh fruit and veg as well as eggs for breakfast and endless amounts for your choosing! the lunch and dinner as well had a lovely variety and a mix of home comforts as well as local and fresh produce. My highlights where watching a meteor shower, night time yoga and meditation as well as diving over midnight into the New Year! so special! This place attracts the best people, the tranquility and isolated space allows for time to reflect and create some inner calm encouraging more balance for when returning home to normal life. I loved my time here so much, that i've already booked to return for next NY! see you soon Roots Red Sea & Back to our roots. Not soon enough though <3

What a place. This was our first visit to Roots and you immediately see why so many guests return year after year. We’re a family of 4, with 1 experienced diver and the rest of us ready to learn. Our boys are 10 & 12. This was the most perfect place to learn. Pharoah dive club is based on site, & our RAID instructor was calm, knowledgable and so good with our children. The pool at the resort was wonderful for the confined water sessions, as well as being great for relaxing. We basically had it to ourself! There are so many lovely outdoor covered seating & relaxing areas to choose from, all with beautiful surroundings. The beach & house reef is literally across the road and has a fully kitted dive centre as well as beach restaurant where lunch is served. It’s an ideal set up. The house reef was spectacular. So easily accessible & the reef is just a few meters from shore. We were all amazed with the coral health, diversity, the variety of marine life and the water clarity. The water temp was a lovely 25 degrees in December. The atmosphere at the resort is second to none. Wonderfully relaxed but with everything you could need and the friendliest house staff who really made the holiday extra special. We loved the communal dining at long tables, with divers, guests, owners, & staff all sharing mealtimes discussing their dives and leafing through marine life books to identify sightings! Never any pressure to socialise though. Added bonus was the lovely resort dogs, and a cinema room. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you Clare & Steve for creating somewhere really wonderful. We very much hope to return!

. It’s no surprise that many of the guests at Roots are repeat customers… I’d come back here like a shot! It’s far away from the busy diving areas in Sharm and Hurghada - and it has a charm all of its own. Situated just outside El Quesir, you feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere. The Skies are dark and the sea is blue and full of life. The house reef is so healthy and surprised us with each and every dive. They have gathered a fantastic team to help run the place. The staff in the kitchen and bar are warm and welcoming and the food is great. Even the gardeners who don’t speak any English will say good morning and wave to you with a smile. The Dive staff are unbelievably attentive and it’s hard to lift a finger without somebody anticipating your every need and being there to help you with your wetsuit zip or your BC. There are lots of options of diving: you can stay put and just enjoy the house reef at your leisure, or they will take you up and down the coast to see the best of the shore diving, mostly in places which don’t seem to be dived by anyone else! Then there are boat dives to places like the famous Elphinstone where you can marvel at the oceanic white tips and the turtles sitting on this off shore reef. Night dives are an option every day and even black light dives with a UV torch (and introductory lecture) to marvel at the underwater fluorescence. The options are limitless! You will not be disappointed.

First time at Roots Red Sea & with Pharaoh Dive Centre. I was exceptionally looked after & felt safe around the camp, the beach & during the snorkeling/diving experiences. There is a lovely rustic charm to this camp, the room had a/c, very clean & well maintained. The staff are excellent, very approachable & friendly, they want to support you in whichever way necessary to enhance your visit. The food is lovely, well prepared & a decent variety. Evening meal promotes a very welcoming, inclusive family & friendly atmosphere. There is a chilled out approach, the holiday is yours to do whatever you want whenever you want to, absolutely no pressures. Excellent pool, the water was revitalising. I had the most relaxing, calming & refreshing holiday, ideal to recharge the batteries. The camp & Dive site are managed exceptionally well, the staff are experienced & want you to get the most of your holiday. I had amazing dives & snorkeling sessions. I have restrictive mobility & was supported with transfers from camp to beach, carrying my kit to the sea & supporting my shore entry/exits. .The house reef is truly beautiful, there was so many different fish, so close & of course the sighting of the elusive Octopus whilst snorkeling. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff, Steve & Clare as managers go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. The more experienced divers are very supportive of 'newbies' like myself & continue to encourage you, often relaying their amazing experiences. Everyone is made to feel 'like one of the group'. I was delighted to find several rescue dogs at the camp, Yogi a beloved pet & security, beautiful (massive) German Shepherd. Roy, Bless & Olwyn all with their individual characters, certainly made this a home from home. Will see you all next year.

Had a splendid time! Travelled alone, but never felt that way. Staff (both of hotel and diving school) are really nice and helpful. Also the other divers/guests where very friendly. Resort is simple but all you need for a week of diving. Thank you.

This is a really helpful and exceptional dive centre that has everything, and is run by extremly keen and enthusiastic management and staff, who really do care about all your needs, whether a newbie to diving, or a pro. Amazing centre in a great location and all your wants, wishes and expectations delivered. This is my second visit and I cant recommend it highly enough. A real team place with easy access to lovely coral coastline and connected to many excellent dive sites. I hope to return next year with friends

A brilliant place to get away. No hustle and bustle. The staff could not do enough for us. As a family with a range of diving experience this is a great location that offers interesting diving from novice to more experienced divers. The accommodation is clean and we had no problems. Photographs of the pool don't do it justice. It looks small but when we got there it is a good size and the kids loved it. It was also a welcome relief for us adults as Egypt is HOT in August. The team were always attentive providing drinks and were brilliant with the kids. They went out of their way to arrange a birthday cake one night. Food is tasty, plentiful and was OK for children with no complaints. Nights are sociable. We brought enough entertainment to keep the kids happy and they did not complain once. The location is remote and this suited us. We like to get away from it all. You do get a chance to visit some of the more typical hotels where there is access to some of their dive sites and we were glad to be where we were. For divers: I am usually a fairly independent British Diver. I have dived many places around the world but usually the majority of my dives are in the UK. My wife although qualified had not dived for over 10 years. Two boys aged 11 and 14 with basic qualifications. The team at Roots catered for us all. They offered refresher courses, guiding but were also happy to let us dive independently on the house reef. There are a number of options to provide variety including opportunities for trips further afield if you required. There is a reasonably stocked dive shop if you need any essentials on site. There was something for all of us and the centre appeared well run and safe. The topography of the local site means that it can funnel water off the reef and out to sea on the dropping tide so care is needed at this time. The dive crew warned us of this at a particularly bad day. It subsided after an hour or so and we had a great dive after. We did have one difficult return to the beach on one day which took a lot of finning. There is a rope laid from around 6m to the shore to help. We spotted turtles, great healthy coral, anemone fishes, squid, blue spotted rays, stonefish etc etc so plenty of variety. All the locally employed guides were fantastic. I understand that the owners were away during our stay so unfortunately we did not have a chance to meet them (other reviews would suggest that we missed out). If they read this we would like to say that all the local staff were excellent! They were polite, cheerful, attentive and made us feel at home. They went out of their way to ensure we were safe in the heat. They offered us lifts travelling to the beach and back if they saw us. When we left they all turned out to wish us well which was really nice. We would definitely stay here again and potentially come with a group from our local dive club.

I have been to Roots a few times now, and the service is 5 star! The reef is easy to access, and the dive guides are very good at what they do. My favourite dive guide is Mohammed, I recently did my rescue diver course with him. The accommodation is always clean and tidy. Food is tasty, my favourite night was the bbq on the beach. Highly recommended.

I was in one of the eco huts which served me well for my stay. I would recommend bug spray as the mosquitos can e annoying but other than that it is all you need for a comfortable nights sleep. All the food at the resort was tasty and because there is enough variety in every meal even if you dont like something you wont go hungry. The beach barbie was my favourite meal with lovely grilled chicken and sausages with lots of sides. Also the beach setting makes it a special night. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming attending to your every need. Big shout out to Magdey and Fareid for being especially nice and really making me feel at home. The toilets and shower facilities have also been done up recently and are very pleasant. The pool is also perfect to relax beside after a long days diving. Very pleasant stay, would recommend
