We booked the beach front villa for a family trip. The villa itself is beautiful, spacious, modern however very secluded from everything which we didn’t mind to begin with but later down the line it did become an issue. Getting to places not only was expensive but also far away. However we managed to use the taxi services from silver beach hotel which was less than two minutes walk from the villa. The beach is stunning, again it was a private beach and perfect for us as a family - literally on our doorstep! The pool was great however was hoping for it to be slightly bigger. It was not big enough for four adults and one child but was a reasonable size. We originally went with the half board option and although breakfast was ok, we did not enjoy lunch/dinner. The chefs were amazing however the food was not to our taste and after speaking to Gaby, the manager he kindly took the lunch/dinner off and refunded us for the duration of our stay. I would say most people would love the food but coming from a Asian background we are used to hot, spicy food which was not made for us unfortunately even though the chef did try his very best to please us! My husband decided to arrange a private dinner on the beach for our family which Gaby organised alongside the chef and waiters. We were absolutely blown away. Food was excellent, service was excellent and everything executed perfectly. So thank you again for making that evening so special for us. All in all, we enjoyed our stay despite the minute issues with food and location. The service from Gaby, Rishi, Ravi, George, the housekeeping team were second to none and they make this villa worth staying in. Thank you all and we look forward to visiting again!

The villas are beautiful, well appointed and spacious and right on a lovely beach, with the added benefit of private pools in each. However, when we were there in late January it was the hottest time of the year. As soon as we arrived we asked about the air conditioning as the large open lounge/diner/kitchen only had one ceiling fan with nothing in the dining/ lounge area. We were told that there was only a/c in the bedrooms. We asked the manager for a freestanding fan and were refused- he said we could buy one ourselves!!! It became so unbearable on an evening that we told the owner Alexandre that we were really struggling with the heat. The next day he brought us his own fan, which did help. In fact, he was very helpful to us during our stay. I could recommend the villas but not when the weather is so hot. The staff are lovely- our maids Eliette and Sheila particularly- so friendly, creating beautiful little flower arrangements and working so hard but we could see them struggling with the heat in the villa. Btw the water features in the pools don’t work, a little thing but misleading in the photos.

The house as well as the entire complex of buildings is quite clean and modern. The beach in front of the villas is very nice. Actually, it would have been easy to make this place a great holiday experience based on these preconditions. However, the problem comes with the Stylia Villas management: It seems that the management tries to make any extra money possible (taking advantage of the circumstance that the villas seem to be remote and far from the town centre) - here are some examples: -1 single tablet for the dish water costs 30 MUR (0,75 €) -1 single cab for the washing machine most 50 MUR (1,25 €) -18,9 l of drinking water costs 450 MUR (11,37 €) Just providing some drinking water and dish washer/washing machine tabs on arrival for free would have created a much more welcoming impression to us. How would you welcome a guest at your own home to make him feel welcome? Probably not by selling him the first glass of water… When we told the owner (the day we were leaving) that the hospitality might be improved, he responded, "So if I provide dishwashing taps and water for free, I can also raise the praise…" It seems he simply does not understand what hospitality means. Some water and washing tablets can not be included when we pay 210 € per day?! In Switzerland, I can buy one dish water tablet for 7 MUR / 0,2 € – so don´t try to sell it to me in Mauritius for 30 MUR! Before arrival, the Stylia Villas sent out a cooking service offer by email (breakfast or half board). However, it says in the mail that if you want to make use of the cooking service, you have to order for your entire stay ("only every day"). Ridiculous! Similar attitude regarding the car rental offers recommended through the Stylia Villas management: it is only for a minimum of five days available. Moreover, one day we found a document in the living room saying that the air condition can only be used when a person is in the same room, only for sleeping time and that it must not be used to cool other/adjacent rooms in the house - otherwise they would "(…) reserve the right to add a supplementary charge to the bills of those who choose to act otherwise (…)". Furthermore, we asked for late checkout: The answer was that this would be no problem: For 100 € extra. We were surprised we were not asked money for flushing the toilet… Furthermore, several additional services are sold through Stylia Villas. For example, a taxi ride to the next Super U supermarket for 1000 MUR or an airport transfer for 2800 MUR. However - there is hope for you future visitors: The villas are not as remote as it first seems. You can easily free yourself from this situation: Just turn right and walk 100 meters to the Silver Beach Hotel. In front of the hotel, you will find a taxi stand. The airport transfer was offered to me (without negotiating) for 1500 MUR. And if you do not want to rely on Stylia Villas' cooking offer, you can walk to Trou D'Eau Douce city center (around 15 min. walking) - there are several excellent restaurants and small supermarkets/shops. The restaurant " La Case Poisson" even provides you a free pick up service and brings you also back (for free) to your accommodation after dining. At the Silver Beach hotel one can rent cars (1900 MUR/day - you can book them for single days), and at Silver Beach's beach people sell boat tours to the nearby islands. So anything Stylia Villas offers as an additional service, you can usually find for a much better deal just a few walking minutes nearby - don't believe you would be in a remote area - even though it seems so in the beginning. Furthermore, we were not convinced by the "Garden Villas" garden. On the website, you will only find photographs showing the "Beach Villas" gardens. The pool fountain did not work (is permanently off as told by the management). Moreover, we felt there was a lack of plants and grass. See the photo we provided and make up your own opinion. To close this feedback, we would like to positively mention the work and attitude of the cleaning staff.

I trusted the current reviews and decided to ignore the bad reviews but shame it is so not worth the money and the hype. We had another place booked during our trip with Evaco Villas; oh my you notice the difference straight away. The state of the villas, the service, the inclusive breakfast (portion/taste wise);access to private beach club, the personnel EVERYTHING. Shame not all the villas are the same standard despite similar price range!! This place is far (30ish mins to the closest town) from 'town' we were actually worried driving up there at night if we were to have a car breakdown there's no way to get any help (as an e.g.) I prefer the northern side of the island; its more lively; close to everything that you need and at the same time you can be pleasantly secluded. I would not recommend the place.

Response from Alexandre H, Owner at Stylia Villas
Responded 1 Nov 2018
Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Our aim is always to satisfy our guests but we unfortunately not always succeed although we do try our best. Regarding your comment about the other property you booked, it is to be noted that this other property is located about 5 to 10 minutes DRIVING to the beach; we are location ON the beach, which, you will agree, makes a big difference in terms of facility and also price. In order to have higher prices the breakfast is included in the other villa. You are correct the area is still under-developed but it allows you to have a nearly private beach with only a few people around whereas in the north of the island it is like St Tropez in summertime. The nearest village, Flacq, is located 15 to 20 min driving from the villa and you can find a Super U (supermarket) there with anything you need; moreover in Mauritius, if you happen to have a problem anywhere, there will always be a nice and smiling Mauritian to help you. Also, upon check in we give to all our guest a small mobile phone with a sim card and topped up with credit so that you can contact us anytime day/night if you have a problem; the phone is mobile, therefore you can bring it with you when driving at night and if you have a problem, there will always be someone you can contact to help you whatever the situation! This is one out of all the services that we offer with the smile ;-) The north of the island is also very nice; it just depend of the type of holidays you are looking for; relax, calm and chill on the East Coast or more lively, pubs/bars/clubs crowded beaches in the North. Kind Regards, AlexH Owner & Manager
