It was the first time in Morocco for our family of four, including our 9 y/o son and 7 y/o daughter. After 3 days in Marrakesh we were all looking forward to a quieter retreat. This definitely qualified - a few kms higher up the road than the other lodging options. What Jacqueline has created in Douar Samra is really special. There's much love in every meal, design detail and interaction with the staff. The community space in the main house gave us wonderful interactions with fellow travelers who ranged from serious mountaineers to other mildly adventuresome families with kids. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer, but we're already planning our return.
The website gives accurate info on rooms. We stayed a night in the Mouss and one in Treehouse. Both handled the 4 of us fine, but we preferred the cozy, locally decorated Mouss.

The place is simply an incredible piece of paradise in the Moroccan mountains. Do not expect traditional comfort but the food is top notch and the service is as usual in Morocco extremely good. Do engage with the two owners of the hotel, which looks also very nice.

The weather was terrible (rain, sleet, snow in October!!) but we actually think it made our stay more enjoyable as the bedroom and lounge were just so cosy! We read by the roaring fire, chatted to other guests and staff and had such a wonderful relax. Imlil wasn’t anything special but had the weather been nice, I’m sure the trekking would have been spectacular as the views certainly were! Fab food, too, and prices were very reasonable. We made the mistake of booking our own driver and paid a ridiculous figure compared to if we’d booked with D. Samra.

Such a magical and unique place with authentic staff and oodles of charm :)

6 friends (in our 50s) stayed here for three nights and had the best time. Great communication via email for transfer from Marrakesch. Wonderful food - the best chicken tangine we had during our 10 days in Morocco and fab breakfasts too. 2 treks - one to the waterfalls and another longer one (15 miles!) called the loop in stunning scenery through High Atlas Mountains, walnut woods, Berber villages! The rooms are all gorgeous with fires in at night to warm you if cold. Great hammam with Milika, I could go on and on!!

It is not your average hotel and it’s not your average view! The rooms are incredibly comfortable. While electricity has recently been added, the eating arrangements are still by candle light. The food is excellent, the service by Mohammad is inspiring and Jacquline makes for a most perfect host! But the views, walks and air simply wonderful ...a retreat I hope stays unchanged for as long as possible!!!
Thank Andrew M

The roads in the area are improving all the time: getting to the hotel, if you ring ahead...you can get a donkey down to the hotel. It is not for people used to paved roads, escalators and refined residences...but then again... More
