We had an exceptional stay at the Cavern as always, unfortunately it was only 2 nights, room was fantastic, food was out of this world, staff as friendly as always. We are already planning our next stay at the Cavern next year, I would definitely recommend The Cavern.

Lovely accomondation , super friendly staff, Management and service. Good food and wines. You should make use of the spa. Lots of activities and hikes available, starting directly from the lodge. If you can go there, do it!

this is the best getaway you can expect in the Berg. Top top class , everything was just perfect. this was our 6th visit and definitely wont be our last. the food was outstanding , the staff were always very friendly with huge smiles. so nice to see

Great family hotel. Lovely rooms, good hearty meals. Beautiful hikes, horseback riding on site. They have a variety of activities each day that you can opt into. Beautiful eco massage area where you feel like you are in a tree house. I also loved the Bingo game and wine tasting on site. Truly a relaxing experience where you get to meet people from South Africa and beyond. Again owner's on site make all the difference in these family owned hotels.

From the communication pre-arrival regarding the journey to the hotel and what route options to consider (we were very happy that we had chosen to fly into Johannesburg rather than Durban), we realised that the family had really used the experience gained over the last 80+ years to guide their management of the resort. Every staff member we encountered, including the trainees, went out of their way to make our 7-night stay a very happy one. On the day of our arrival, as part of the introductory tour, I was introduced to Munya, the head chef, who would come out of his kitchen at lunchtimes every day and guide on what salads and main course dishes to avoid (prefer not to eat spicy food), likewise advise on the breakfast components and on 3 evenings I was treated to a specially cooked meal when both the mains had spicy sauces/components (which most people love these days) - because I do not have a food allergy per se, I had been hesitant to document my preference on the details requested, but am so pleased I did as the personalised service was something I will never forget. My husband felt like he had gone to heaven as he loves spicy food and fancy desserts, neither of which he gets at home very often 😀. The accommodation was very comfortable, spotlessly maintained and even though we were right at the bottom of the reserve, overlooking the fern forest and next to the gatehouse, we were never disturbed by any noise there. Cavern gave us a fantastic green mountain view from our 3 bedroom unit, long mountain hikes with a guide, inexpensive spa services, great food, cheap high quality wine, and excellent personalized service. The accommodation was spacious with a view of the mountain from our bedroom. All meals plus wine and beer were included and served in the dining room. The food was good and we liked that the staff put on a Zulu show on Saturday night. There was lots to do such as mountain hiking, a pool, and spa services. My wife and my son had massages and found them to be good and also quite inexpensive. We went on two long hikes (about 10km) and one short one. The scenery was lovely with many small waterfalls, beautiful flowers like proteas, and stunning green mountain peaks. The hikes started at the resort and had morning tea included. Recent flooding had caused a potential problem in our unit. The staff talked to us about potentially moving to another unit. While we did not have to move, I was impressed that the owner gave us a nice bottle of wine just to compensate us for having to talk to them about the issue. Speaking of wine, the Cavern has a fantastic wine cellar where you can buy excellent wine for what were very cheap prices compared to Canada where we live. Overall we were very impressed. The only concern we had was that the road to get there has many potholes and is not in great shape.…

I was looking for the perfect place for my wife and I to spend our anniversary. The Cavern exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and plentiful, the walks scenic and birdlife excellent - we added twelve lifers to our bird list!

We arrived on the weekend and the staff welcomed us to join for lunch asap, we checked in and took into the majestic views of the Amphitheater. Dinner,breakfast and lunch was individually thought of menus that was reminiscent of farm style hearty meals that where deliciously prepared, ask for seconds and it was there. The rooms where comfortable,warm and always fresh.Views from our room where overlooking the facilities on offer and of the majestic mountains. The staff where friendly and accomodating always, ensuring you where always met with professional service with a warm smile. We highly recommend Cavern Berg Resort and just the history behind the Carte family story is enough for an Oscar award winning movie, we certainly will be back time again.
