This camp is absolutely stunning, the location of the bandas overlooking the river bed is so tranquil & the banda itself was spacious, luxurious and very comfortable. I really enjoyed the sitting area outside where we had an uninterrupted view of the dry river bed. We had the most beautiful dinner set out in the middle of the dry river bed with lanterns in the rocks and a roaring fire off to the one side. Even though it was very hot in November having the fire going & the lanterns lit gave our dining experience a really great atmosphere. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We had a really good game drive the one morning with a guide from the lodge (I apologise I cannot recall his name) he was so knowledgeable and keen to tell us all about the area and animals etc, we self drove to the lodge so it was really nice to be told about the area & animals from a local. If you have a chance to go to Mwagusi you must.…
I have written a number of reviews of this camp and it is difficult to say something new, but whoever reads this may like to know why I think it is so special. Firstly, it is superbly situated by the side of what is usually (except it seems, when I come to visit) a dry river bed and in an area visited by a lot of animals. This year a leopard walked down the path past my banda merely minutes before I was escorted to dinner and in previous years I have seen lions, elephants and wild dogs in camp. Secondly, the bandas are spacious, quirky and extremely comfortable - there is nothing quite so enjoyable as sitting staring at the landscape, all thoughts of European civilisation banished. Thirdly, the food and service are terrific - how do they manage to rustle up such delicious meals miles from anywhere? Most importantly, this is a camp which the owners, managers and staff are passionate about and it shows. The guides and drivers are just brilliant (I have been all over Tanzania and consider myself very well placed to judge) thanks to a very enlightened training program - they have eyes like hawks and a fund of knowledge which is really enlightening and adds to the whole experience. I will return, and that is a promise...…
Just a km short of the camp on our arrival, we came across 2 lion cubs playing just a few feet from the road track. It would be prophetic of our stay. The next surprise was going to dinner which is served on an open fire by candlelight on a table in the river bed. With animal sounds in the night we ate with our host Chris and his family. The food was marvelous. Breakfast is served in a cabana overlooking the river bottoms & some open water where animals come to drink. (There was also a small scopes owl in the rafters. I have never seen a tent like here. It was a work of art. The ensuite is like a living scupture. The bedroom is nothing short of beautiful. It has a feeling of such luxury in the bush. Outside there is an elaborate patio overlooking the river beds. My experience was forever memorable waking up to elephants, jackals, leopards & lions discussing water rights in the night. Chris is a fountain of knowledge sharing his trail night cam shots of animals passing through. One morning big male kudus joined the zebras & impalas at the water. This is one very special safari camp very well located in Ruaha.…
If you get a chance - go! Everything is top of the line. From a comfortable transfer from Dar with a Cessna Caravan 1 and a brief terrain transport to the dried riverbed Firelit dinners. A completely open camp with full animal interaction day and night. Top class bandas with the sounds of yhe djungle all around. Geoffrey guided us to mind blowing nature experiences including wild dogs, a lion chasing a leopard, jackals chasing another leopard to a close encounter with a cerval. Everything under the kind and attentive eye och the Fox family and Trudy. We'll be back
The banda feels more permanent than a tent and better bath facilities. It's not unusual to see wildlife as you look over the river in morning or evening. The coffee and cookies in the morning is a nice touch. What really makes this place great are the people! We had a great guide, and the meals - who expects something that great in the bush? Of course, the highlight was the wildlife, and the only place I got a chance to see cheetah! Plenty of lions, elephants, giraffes, and the list goes on. As entertaining as all that is, I could have sat and listened to Chris Fox for hours about growing up in the bush and all the people he has encountered as he continues to fight for the wildlife and the forests. This was a no-brainer. If you have doubts, put them aside. You won't be disappointed.…
