This award-winning lodge, located on the border of the Selous Game Reserve, with dramatic views of the beautiful Rufiji River, is the most highly-reviewed camp in the area and offers a range of thrilling safaris including game drives, walking safaris and boat safaris. The camp has an intimate, friendly atmosphere where you can kick back and relax with an ice-cold drink beside the campfire, cool off in the riverbank swimming pool, or take in the epic view of the sun setting over the river. Choose your accommodation and spend the night in a comfortable "Mudhut" room located overlooking the river, or for a more wild experience, sleep under canvas in a spacious - but simple - glamping tent. Enjoy delicious meals, served in the riverbank restaurant. Set out on safari in the Selous with an experienced guide and discover wildlife from the comfort of a open-sided 4x4 car, explore the river or lakes by boat, or go for a gentle stroll on a walking safari.

We had great 4 days at Selous River camp; location by the Rufiji river with hippos' and calabash monkeys was very exotic as were the mud huts too. We got nice meals and very good service. Masais were showing the way and looking after us in the evenings on the way from huts to

Hi Miriam and Simon, The quickest way is to fly. Flights can be booked with Coastal Aviation, Auric Air, Zanair or Safari Air Link. Our local airstrip is called Mtemere, or Selous Lower - two names, but the place is the same. Alternatively, it's possible to come by road. The drive from Dar is about 230km and takes around six hours. There's good tarmac up to Kibiti, and then bush roads from there for about 100km/three hours. We can arrange with a transfer company we work with for a car to collect you from anywhere in Dar at anytime between 6am and 12pm to drive you to the camp. Please contact us for their up-to-date rates. If your budget and time allows, I recommend arriving by road and leaving by air. Although the car journey is longer and less comfortable than flying, it does give you the chance to see some of "real" Tanzania, and also leaves you with a sense of how far from civilisation you are. It's also really lovely to see the vastness of the Selous from the air, and fly over the Rufiji River. If you're more adventurous, on a tight budget and don't mind a less comfortable way of travelling, Tokyo Takara bus company runs a daily bus service to our local village of Mloka which leaves at 7am from Dar es Salaam for Mloka village. The bus leaves from the Majaribio roundabout on Mahunda Street in the Tandika Majaribio/Temeke Sudani area of Dar es Salaam. We can collect you from Mloka village free of charge. The bus isn't the most reliable or comfortable way of reaching us, but it is cheap!

we had a private driver from dar. it took about 4-5hrs in the hwy and then off the hwy. once you exit the hwy i would say that it becomes tricky because there are a slew of river camps and there are signs posted at dirt roads so you will need to know where exactly you’re staying and be patient because it may take you a while to find the exact spot but it’s so worth it! hope this helps!

Hello Jane, sorry that this was left unanswered. We don't get informed of new questions here and weren't aware that you'd asked! In case anyone in future asks the same question, yes it is possible to book directly with us. The email address can be found on our website. We aren't allowed to advertise here... I'm not sure if that includes posting suggestions for tour operators. The tents are around 70-80 metres from the riverbank, but with the camp located in a woodland area, that does mean that you can't see the river from the tents due to the trees blocking the way. The bar and dining area are both completely open-sided and are located on the riverbank though, and the bar has a lot of comfy seating and great views, so most people who want to be by the river tend to spend a lot of their time relaxing in the bar.
