Ok place, good location. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but we changed it to 1 night.
Try to negotiate the rates.
The rooms are clean. Shower is open in the bathroom it doesn't have a partition.
Water pressure is very low.
There are noises in the evening from the street and you can hear the noise from the hotel lobby as the hotel is built in an old way so the rooms are not very well isolated.
The room doesn't have a balcony and you will not be able to open the windows.

We stayed at Asmini Palace i December 2013. The staff was nice and the service was excellent. The location of the hotel is perfect; near Forodhani Gardens, Beit el Ajaib, the sea front etc. Roof top restaurant serves basic meals with a nice sea view.

We have lived in Stone Town for many yearend walked past the Asmini on many an occasion and never thought to go in. Last week we did. And we were happy we did. The rooftop restaurant is very pleasant, the staff is nice and helpful, the internet is free, the food was great, the prices affordable, and the Asmini serves alcohol, which was a pleasant surprise as well.

We haven't seen the rooms, but the whole hotel looks well kept, and judging from the price list the room prices are also affordable.

I stayed at the Asmini for four nights in a double king bed room. The first night I woke with a few bites on my arm and wrist which I assumed were a mosquito bite. The next night I had a ton of small red marks on my feet, again I thought it was from maybe walking in the sand. The third and fourth night my legs were on FIRE. I had multiple bites from my feet to my thigh. Ironically my roommate didn't have any bites. She pointed out that it didn't look like mosquito bites. So I googled 'Mosquito bite vs bed bug bite' the pattern in which I was bite were exactly the pattern of bed bugs. The main thing was that they bite in a line vs mosquitos bites which are randomly placed. That's exactly what I had, bites in a line formation.

Our room on arrival was very dusty and had many spider webs so I'm assuming no one had stayed in it in a while. The laundry/towels were very stiff. I definitely don't understand why it was rated/listed as a 4 star hotel.

Had this not been the case I would have rated the hotel differently as they were accommodating to my early arrival and the men who worked the reception desk and kitchen were very nice. The Zanzibarian people are very nice people. However I would not recommend this place to friends traveling unless the whole place is exterminated.

This hotel engages in bait and switch pricing. We agreed on a price and they changed it at check out. We made every effort to pay at the time of check in but they kept insisting that we wait, I see now that this was so they could keep the final price from us. We asked several times to pay and were told to wait. Nothing in the hotel is as described. I've never has a hotel be so dishonest or a hotel manager be so agressive. It was my birthday and our honeymoon and this really ruined our trip. He lied to us and told us that if we waited until the next day we would pay the agreed upon price. He made me cry and ruined my birthday. After we checked out we saw the exact same thing happen to the family aftee us. The manager is an awful man to avoid at all cost.

Response from Mohamed Mohamed, General Manager at Asmini Palace Hotel

Dear Jessica, I just come to see your report and i am asking myself how i have not seen it for all those years? First of all i apologize for what happened to you that day . it is strange because i am the Manager from 2011 and have ever met such situation. I swear that i have ever experienced such situation. Was it one of my staff who used my name and ruined your stay? But why? If yes, it can be the first and last time it happened. I am afraid that you confused with the name of the hotel. I can even provide you my picture if needed for identification and to prove that it was not the Manager i am. My e-mail address is : asminipalace@zanlink.com Looking forward to reading you, Kind Regards! Mohamed

I ate lunch at the roof restaurant of this hotel. It was my last day in Zanzibar and I went in because there was an item on the menu that I really wanted and their sign said they took credit cards. I wanted to save my last cash so I wouldn't have to make another ATM withdrawl and then end up with money I had to exchange back. When I ordered, the waitress told me that the item I wanted wasn't available. I should have left at that point but decided to order something else. The fish was dry and overcooked. When I got the check I put down my credit card. The waitress took me down to the front desk to run the credit card, at which point the man behind the desk told me it was too small of an amount (about $12 US dollars) and he wouldn't run the credit card. Right on the restaurant menu it said they would take credit cards with a 6% service fee which I was fine with paying. There were also visa stickers on the door and front desk, however he insisted it would take them too long to get paid from the credit card and it was too small of an amount. He made me hand over every last penny of cash that I had. Apparently customer service is not a priority and they had no problem saving themselves trouble by making me incur ATM and currency exchange fees.

My wife and I stayed at the Asmini Palace Hotel on June 2-5, 2009. My wife's wallet was locked inside her bag in the room. However, as we discovered on the morning of June 5, as we were departing at 6am to catch the early ferry, the bag had a back zipper through which someone could access the locked compartment. Since the bag never left the room and the room was locked, the ONLY person who could have accessed the bag is someone at the hotel with access to the room. Overall we enjoyed the hotel until this very disappointing event.

We stayed at the Asmini Palace for 5 nights after two weeks on safari in Northern Tanzania. Stone Town has enough to keep one occupied for about 3 or 4 days, but if you want a beach holiday, you're better off at one of the beach resorts. It would be best to stay in Stone Town only for a couple of days and then spend a few more outside at one of the beaches.

The hotel was nice, clean and had generally excellent service (with perhaps the exception being the breakfast waitress who didn't look like she really wanted to be there and brought everyone pretty much the same dish - given that breakfast was basically toast, pancakes, eggs and fruit it shouldn't have been too hard to mess up, but if you asked for no toast or eggs sunny-side up, you got toast and eggs over easy....).

The rooms are quite large and fit our family of 4 in one room quite easily. Included is a TV, kettle and fridge. Also there is a ceiling fan and air-con. It was quite comfortable. The rooms are arranged around a central interior courtyard. Our room had a large stained glass window that faced on the courtyard, and since the lights in the courtyard were left on all night, meant a lot of light in our room all night. It didn't bother us much, but could disturb light sleepers.

There is wireless internet, but the signal is so weak that you must sit in the lobby to make use of it. They are right next door to an internet cafe (Palace Internet) which was very convenient. Actually, we didn't use the internet cafe, but it was really convenient because there are signs throughout Stone Town that point the way to Palace Internet. Since Stone Town is such a maze, it was handy to always be able to find our way back to the hotel by following the signs for Palace Internet!

Housekeeping service was a little inconsistent, with a variable number of towels being delivered each day. Also the beds only had 2 layers of sheets and no blankets, which was fine unless you had the air-con on full bore!

There's no real view from the hotel, with the exception of the roof-top bar/restaurant. But the restaurant is very expensive and the service very slow, so you're better off going elsewhere. There's lots of decent restaurants in Stone Town and the night market is within a short walk from the hotel. Streets are poorly lit, so walking at night could be hazardous. Not so much from a chance of being mugged, but more likely tripping over a pile of trash or stepping into an open sewer!

There are several good tour agencies nearby and day trips (snorkeling, spice tours, etc.) can be easily arranged on short notice.

The location of the hotel is excellent for visiting all the sights of Stone Town. Everything is within easy walking distance, and it's close enough to the main road so it isn't far of a walk from the taxi to the hotel with your bags. The taxi drivers know where it is and will escort you from the car to the hotel.

I would certainly stay here again, but next time I would also consider spending time at a beach lodge.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of our 2 weeks in tanzania and we really liked it so booked 2 more nights at the end of our holiday before returning home. It is nicely furnished and very clean and safe and the staff are very helpful. When I contacted them to ask them for directions from the ferry port they said if I let them know which ferry we were arriving on they would have someone there to meet us. It is very near to the port so no need for a taxi but down some winding little alleys so maybe difficult to find the first time but this would apply to most hotels in stonetown. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I and my family arrived at Asmini PALACE Hotel on 21st february 2021 at around 14:00 hrs.The parking area close by is overlooking forodhani garden about 200 m to asmini PALACE so you will have to pull your luggage to the hotel.Aircondition is very good.shower runs very slow..when I asked they told me it's all the same in stonetown but we moved to KISIWA house hotel and water was running with power nicely..very powerfull indeed. At asmini PALACE Hotel they dont put shampo no shower gel..but they put a small solid bathing soap.Breakfast is a repeated set menu starting with a plate of fruits.papaya, pineaple(half ripe)and banana.a small glass of juice.then agg of your choice mostly with too much salt, toasted two slices of home baked broad and two pancakes..This is served daily the same except the juice will change sometimes. The staff are very friendly..internet fluctuates everyday.i asked and was told that the problem is from provider.Tv has no signal.Toilet doors make noise closing and opening..I put some oil to silence them. Was our second Holiday but will never again.its not worth 4 star hotel and not worth the money.

Response from Mohamed Mohamed, General Manager at Asmini Palace Hotel
Responded 6 Jun 2021
Dear Habel, I hope everything is fine at your side after difficult moments caused by the covid-19 around the world. I take this opportunity to apologize after reading what you lived during your short stay at Asmini Palace Hotel. Let me say that our driver was not kind because he knew that his taxi could come till our front door with clients. I think you saw that there is always 4 or 5 cars parked at around 7 steps from our main door, they took the Kiponda Street coming from the Harbour side. My staff did not lie in telling you that the water problem is known in the whole area, Kisiwa is far from where we are. In stone we often got similar situation with water supply, electricity and internet. You can find it good in one area today or this week and miss it on another are. That is why every hotel has its own Generator. Regarding the shampoo and shower gel, we do not put in our rooms . We always check our rooms before any check in. We do have every day a maintenance guy available 24h ,so if ever there is any technical problem in the room we send some one to help or fix it. I understand that may be you did not inform the Reception about your TV. It could be a setting matter. We got similar cases (TV+AC)with other guests but once they inform the front desk we just send someone to fix or show them how it works. Regarding the breakfast, we serve a continental one and if ever there is not a special request, we serve which is liked by more than 70% of our yearly guests. Once again, sorry for what happened. Looking forward to welcoming you again in Zanzibar, Kind Regards! Mohamed
