We arrived at The Neela somewhat unexpectedly after our booked hotel lost our reservation. They arranged for us to stay at The Neela instead and we could not have been more pleased.

The staff were absolutely wonderful--warm, friendly and helpful. The front desk manager took care of us while the room was made up and the restaurant staff provided cool drinks. The room, on the top floor, was spacious and well appointed; it was a bit ironic to have such an old (but beautifully restored) building with state of the art electronic controls for the lights, TV, AC and so on.

Breakfast in the restaurant was a real treat. The croissants were fresh and well made and the entrees were hot, spicy, and enjoyable. We had to wait in the lobby area after checkout for our transport to the airport and when this happened, the attendant who had been so good to us in the restaurant cheerfully helped us wheel luggage over to the waiting car.

All in all, this was one of the best outcomes for a travel glitch we have every experienced and we would certainly return to The Neela and recommend it heartily.

While traveling on my first trip to Zanzibar, my girlfriend and I arrived at The Neela Hotel Stone Town (Turns out it was their opening weekend!!). As we walked through the old historic narrow paver and stone pathways, I came upon a gorgeous white-concrete boutique hotel with wooden accents and tall elephant ear plants (not even joking…CHECK OUT THE PICS!). The hotel guard opened the massive wooden doors to a stunning blue tiled courtyard with tall open arches built in every direction.

I was greeted with my room key at the front reception and given a tour of the facilities… The Chef even came out at one point and greeted us as we walked through their restaurant (big deal for me because I’m a foodie…).

When we walked into our room the first things that caught my eye were the wooden rafters that combed the ceiling, the extra-large standalone bathtub and the Artwork… As I am a tall man myself, I was also pleased to find the rain style shower heads were well over my head.

Throughout our 4 day stay the staff was so accommodating… You notice the 5 star service while you stay at Neela. The food and drinks were incredible… I had a few meals outside of the hotel, but all the food was so good coming from the Neela kitchen that I always found myself in one of their restaurants… It is a true high end craft kitchen. Their chefs work with local bakers and farmers to get all of their ingredients and let me tell you, they put out some incredible plates. They have a band at the rooftop bar "Views" on the weekends.. What a vibe, they set the mood perfectly. The staff even set up a private boat tour (dhow) that took us out snorkeling, made us lobster lunch on an island, and swimming in a private lagoon. We even saw humpback whales! A mother and her Calf were swimming through the channel. Experience of a lifetime.

I can’t recommend this place enough… I will be back.

Dear Navigate Your kind words are truly appreciated. The Shaulis family had a distinct vision for The Neela Boutique Stone Town, aiming to infuse their family’s values into the essence of hospitality within one of the most naturally beautiful and culturally rich locations in the world, Zanzibar. It's heartening to know that your positive feedback aligns with our vision. We'll certainly keep an eye out for your return, past those distinctive elephant ear plants. We eagerly await your next visit!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Neela Collection in Stone Town, Zanzibar for three nights at the end of September on a recommendation and it really didnt disappoint.

The interiors are absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous original artworks and local crafts adorning this boutique hotels.

The service standards were exceptional - nothing was too much trouble, with the chef catering to our fussy children and then baking not one, but two birthday cakes for the birthdays we were celebrating! I am sure the whole team coming out to sing Happy Birthday to my son has made it a 7th birthday never to be forgotten.

The food and the cocktails at this hotel are by far we tasted on the island! The menu is different and well thought out.

Highlights - the breakfasts, the service and the bedsheets!

We will definitely come back.

Truly one of the most memorable hotel stays I have experienced. The professional and kind staff made me feel like part of the family. They always had a smile and always were able to help when needed. The hotel is curated with lovely art and plants. Our room was so tastefully decorated. The bed was comfortable and the linens just lovely. It was nice to come in from a day of exploring to this cool oasis. The Breadfruit restaurant did not disappoint. Breakfast lunch and dinner were all wonderful. Clearly the chef uses the freshest ingredients and thoughtfully prepares the dishes. The ceviche was some of the best I have had. I wish there was an option to give this hotel many, many more stars. A million thanks to the wonderful staff! You are simply the best!

I stayed at this hotel on the advice of my travel agent for 3 nights after a very demanding climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. I was not disappointed! The hotel is beautifully designed and my room truly luxurious. The staff were consistently delightful and helpful, including their assistance in helping me to book private tours of all of the sights of interest to me. An added bonus: "Breadfruit Restaurant & Cafe" within the hotel is highly rated and deservedly so! Breakfast each morning was delicious, as were dinner and cocktails on the hotels lovely rooftop. Neela Boutique is in the heart of Stone Town but tucked away on a quite side street. A wonderful choice in Zanzibar!

A little late to leave a review but better than never! Even 2 months after our stay, my bf and I still talk about the incredible service we received during our stay at Neela. I decided to book with them for my bf’s and sister’s birthday and from the very start during our email conversation I felt like they honestly cared about our stay. Thank you Steve for being so patient with me! When we arrived, they greeted us at our taxi, escorted us into the hotel and took our bags right away up to the room.
I loved the little touch they added where you can choose your favourite coffee to be brought up at a specific time to your room in the morning.
Every corner in this hotel is so beautiful and the food was a 10/10!
There was not a single person that didn’t greet us with a smile each day and our birthday celebration at the rooftop (the view up there is sooo beautiful!) was honestly perfect. I can’t thank everyone enough for making this probably the best stays we ever had in a hotel. Thank you Rapita, Ayoub, Elizabeth, Daisy (I hope I got the names right) and the rest of the amazing staff (I’m sorry I didn’t get everyone’s name!).

I honestly highly recommend staying here!

This small hotel tucked in Stone Town was a wonderful surprise! It has been newly renovated with very comfortable rooms and nice amenities. We stayed at room 3 which had a side window, but there seem to be a couple of rooms that might had views to a back garden.
Their staff was friendly and very charming. We chose to have dinner one night at their rooftop restaurant, and the ambiance was perfect and the food absolutely delicious!
If you are looking for an authentic experience, you can’t go wrong staying at this jewel of Stone Town!

After being in Zanzibar for a few weeks we found it challenging to find fresh and tasteful local food… especially in Stone Town.

We came across The Breadfruit restaurant at the Neela Boutique Hotel recently and all I can say is, wow!! It exceeded all expectations.

From the presentation of the food to the exceptional staff, we finally found the dining experience we’ve been looking for.

Expect elevated local flavors, fresh and high quality ingredients, good wine, and a great vibe.

Had high hopes for this restaurant, as we had friends visiting and thought it would be a special meal. Roof top and a cool view. There was only one red meat option on the menu and they were out of it. So we picked second options and the fried chicken was good, the lobster and shrimp had odd, pasty textures.
Presentation was beautiful, but lacked real substance to it. Drinks were too sweet.

Dear Michael, We are deeply sorry to hear about your recent dining experience at our restaurant. We understand how important it is to create memorable moments, especially when hosting friends, and we regret that we fell short of your expectations. We apologize for the limited selection of red meat options. All red meats are imported from South Africa. As we believe in sustainability, we only opted for one red meat offering. But being on an island, it is not a given that these imports are always available. Regarding the drinks, we apologize if they were too sweet for your taste. We will review our beverage offerings to ensure a better balance of flavors in the future. We genuinely appreciate your feedback as it helps us identify areas for improvement. We hope you will consider giving us another chance to exceed your expectations in the future. Warm regards, Zak Jansen
