A great hotel with friendly local staff, the most comfortable beds you could wish for and great food at a reasonable price. On top of that it's in a prime, safe location walking distance to the markets and beaches.

Room is very spacious with a powerful AC and a clean modern qwerky en-suite, super king size bed, decent internet for browsing the net. Breakfast is average (very good compared to the rest of Tanzania/Zanzibar) all for under $80 per night (exc breakfast for 24,000 Shilling). We were going to stay in the Hyatt across the road for the last...

The place is decorated elegantly and is situated in a great place, quiet but close to everything. The staff is very helpful and nice and the restaurant offers fine breakfast. Rooms are big and very comfortable. couldn't find a blemish.

I stayed here for one night during my honeymoon in Tanzania. I only booked it online the day before and got a good price so wasn't expecting much but it was beautiful. The decor of the hotel is very classy and authentic. Our room was small but comfortable and a big plus was having a mosquito net so we didn't...

stayed as a couple for 2 nights. The rooms are decorated in ancient zanzibari styles but maintainance is poor. Remote controls dont work, airconditioning doesn't work properly - though the staff are excellent and always there to help & rectify problems. The reception is a tiny cubby hole under the stairs and at the time of check in after paying...

Beyt al Salaam is easily one of the best hotels in Zanzibar. Period. For it's price, it is unbeatable. Where do I even start? First off, the location is phenomenal. You're located right near the Double Tree, Serena, and Hyatt, hotels that cost x3 or x4 the price. The rooms are authentic, have a lot of character and never lose...

Traditional old house turned into boutique hotel. Lovely rooms and beautiful old showers. All was comfortable. Each room is different in size and style. I recommend room 103, though I stayed in 104 which was lovely for myself..bit small for movement around bed for 2. Hot water though not strong pressure. Air conditioner worked well...there was just 1 window which...

This is an old building, a former tea house. The character of the original building has been maintained as well as the signs of its age, but the owners (who also own the nearby Doubetree) make sure that the stay has all the comforts of an upscale hotel. The room was clean, linens are clean and fresh, towels large and ample,...

We were so impressed with this gem of a hotel in the nicest part of Stone Town. Beautiful rooms, absolutely lovely staff and the restaurant is excellent. The rooms all have are all mahogany and Morrocan influence and it really lives up to it's name of The House of Peace

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
For those who want to experience the charm of a classic Zanzibar setting with a touch of ancient Arabian mystique, the place is Beyt Al Salaam, formerly known as Beyt Al Chai. This is an exquisite 10-room boutique hotel within a traditional Zanzibar house, built on 3 floors in what was once a tea house. Sitting only a few paces from the sea, the house is cool and breezy. On a typical day, guests relax in our beautifully appointed lounge and rooms overlooking a square filled with hibiscus and ancient tamarind trees - simultaneously feeling the pull of the mysterious Indian Ocean that lies just beyond the trees and soaking up the ambiance of this World Heritage Site only steps away from the shops, restaurants and attractions of contemporary Zanzibar. ... more   less
