I was the very first visitor at the Heath, slept in a tent because it was quiet open yet (red tape) what A GREAT TENT, even had a hallway lol. Anyway thanks to the staff and timing, I am one of the few people who have seen a Harpe Eagle in her nest with her CHICK) Now how cool is...

I was given the opportunity to volunteer at Heath River Wildlife Center for a little over one month. What a fantastic/inspirational experience! The boat ride to the lodge took right around 6 hours. During that time, we were fed a fantastic lunch and given bottled water to drink. The guide and boatmen were very good at spotting wildlife along the...

Firstly, the journey from Puerto Maldonado does indeed take around six hours. However, the goal of reaching this wildlife haven more than justifies the means. Your guide is already on board at this stage divulging information about the passing birdlife; be it flocks of spoonbills, macaws, huge storks and suchlike. The Madre de Dios river is relatively wide but once...

My wife and I traveled to Heath River Wildlife Center for three nights in September 2016 as an add-on to another longer trip in the Cusco area. We had a decidedly mixed experience. The wildlife was plentiful and interesting to see (Macaws, many monkeys, otters), and our cabin was fine. But our experience at the lodge--particularly in the common areas--was...

We stayed at Heath River Wildlife Sanctuary last fall. It was a fantastic experience! Definitely the best part of ourr trip to Peru. We saw so many incredicble animals, birds, plants and flowers: things I never expected to ever see, let alone see in the wild. Our guide was very informative and helpful, telling us the names of all the...

Accommodation was basic but clean. Food was good. Unfortunately the macaws didn't fly down to the clay lick on our viewing day. Luckily we stayed only 3 nights because had it been any longer, the shower towels would have grown legs and gone on their own jungle walk. Surprised to watch the staff's domestic cat killing small frogs just before...

We loved the location, but the food was also superb, and the cabins were very nice -- candle-lit in the evenings, clean and comfortable. The flora and fauna we saw was extraordinary (we loved our guide, John, from Adios Adventure Travel!).

My eleven year old son, husband and I stayed at the Heath River Wildlife Center in June 2015. We were the only three guests at the reserve. The triple room had three comfortable beds, a shower with hot water and a flush toilet. There is no electricity, but the candles and out battery powered mini lantern were enough to light...

AMAZING Amazon experience! I spent 3 nights at Heath River Wildlife Center and the experience was one of my trip lightlights. This place is so far removed from anything, that you are truly one with nature. The food was good, the accomodations were very rustic (only candles in rooms), but our guide was incredible (Oscar!) and we saw amazing things......

We spent 3 nights at this lodge, in a triple room which had three good, comfortable beds. As we were advised, the rooms have no electricity, just candles - we had brought a small battery operated lantern, which was a godsend given that one candle in the bathroom was not really good enough. There is no cupboard and only a...
