We were very fortunate to be able to stay at this wonderful hotel with our 10 year old granddaughter at the end of August. We were very well looked after by the owners and their colleagues George and Marius. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts each morning in the glorious sunshine with stunning views. All COVID procedures were adhered to. Our granddaughter was very spoilt with practically her own swimming pool as the hotel was very quiet. She had a tremendous time. The steps are a challenge, but you cannot have the unrivalled views without a bit of a climb. We managed it! The room was spacious enough for the 3 of us and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking across at Sami. We walked down into town on an evening and there were plenty of restaurants to choose from making us very welcome. All in all a great holiday.

We had a wonderful week here. I was worried about the stairs (!) it is steep but don’t let this put you off - the views are amazing.
Kids pool was perfect for 3 year old and the large pool was exactly that - large! Breakfast was nice variety of warm and cold food so something for everyone. A kettle, teabags and coffee was in the room and we just asked for some milk at breakfast to keep in the fridge back in the room.
It’s a pleasant walk down into the village with some amazing places to stop on the way for for food or a drink.

The reception staff George and Evelyn couldn't be better. So helpful and accommodating and friendly. Cleaners need to pay more attention to detail
The cleaning of the bedrooms was glossed over and done too quickly. The breakfast is not great. Especially the coffee. Food by the pool is really basic
My spaghetti came cold twice and I was then told it was " tradition!"
The pool itself is fabulous
Best anywhere.

Dear 538francesb, thank you for your feedback of your recent stay with us. We are pleased that overall you had a good time with us, which obviously is attributed to our Reception staff! We already addressed the insufficient cleaning to our HK staff and work on improving the otherwise good performance of our team. Our breakfast gets in general good comments, so we would really like to know what lead you to this opinion? What you were missing? August is surely a time where the nationality mix is much higher and we do not catch all cultural preferences yet, but we are eager to improve. We definitely try to fix the coffee issue as it has been mentioned a couple of times, which truly alerted us. The spaghetti topic is definitely a no-go and we already took action. We truly would like to apologize !! We do hope to welcoming you again for a better stay with us and very hot spaghettis!! Warm Regards, Kefalonia Bay Palace Management & Team

We are returning guests we visited the first time in 2015 when the hotel and its facilities were fairly new and felt luxurious. This was our third visit and the positives for us are the staff (Cassie on reception) has been a constant for us since our first visit and is an absolute star in our opinion. Always helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. I think George was still there moving supplies up and down the steep slopes on his motorbike (both the external lifts were not working) but we didn’t speak with him. The cleaning, breakfast and pool bar team are all hard working and friendly. The views from every room, the restaurant and the pool are still amazing! We spoke with the Manager about the refurbishment plans and the stand outs for us are to get the 2 external lifts working. To create toilets at the swimming pool level. Refurbish all the bathrooms to a modern standard and use some of the unused external space to create shaded areas which is lacking at present. If money is no object create a lift from the street level to pool level and repair the drive. Final comments there is currently no ‘social’ space in the evenings why not use the pool bar? Closing up at 6pm was explained as being due to staff shortages but to be honest on our experience it’s always closed early.

Dear Caroline S, thank you so much for your rating and feedback. It's a pleasure to read that our staff with all their efforts to give our guests "a home far away from home" feeling by going the extra mile, were an asset to your stay with us. All your recommendations have been noted and some of them have already been on our list as well. Just on a side note the big external lift had been working during the summer and just went of service in mid September and we truly would like to apologize for it. The damage couldn't be fixed to the extension that we can guarantee the safety of our guests, which is priority for us. Regarding the 2nd unfinished lift, which have never worked, we surely looking into the option of completing it. Regarding the pool bar we don't know how the previous owner was handling it in aspect of opening times. Surely it's a wonderful place for socialising and be assured it's also in our interest and vision. We hope to welcome you again for your 4th visit and in a new old glance! Warm Regards from Kefalonia from all of us, Kefalonia Bay Palace Management & Team

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff at the hotel. You made us feel so welcome during our stay. Extremely warm, friendly and happy to give advice on things to do in the surrounding area.

Lots if reviews talk about the flights if stairs that lead up to the rooms but the hotel is built on a hillside - so other than lots of gradual walk ways that would spoil the landscape, there isn't a lot that can be done about it. I also think that the elevation is the reason whyvthe views are so truly amazing.

I understand after reading other reviews that there is a plan for further investment in the closed season which I think is a fantastic idea. As a returning guest I would love to see the bathrooms updated, maybe with a walk in shower, with a nice glass panel and new tiles.
I also think that doing something with the couple of bits of spare land on the different levels could be an exciting opportunity. Maybe an outdoor cinema or sports area.

The pool is the best the area and much more glamorous than more expensive hotels. I do think the communal areas could be modernised, maybe with a modern tiles around the coomunal walking area, adult bean bags and a spruced up pool bar.

What impressed me the most about the hotel was the Manager and her sheer determination to do her best for the guests, I seen her in the morning supporting the staff with breakfast, then the same afternoon offering refreshments to her guests and to my amazement in the evening when she was jet washing the pool area! The Hotel are lucky to have such a dedicated and driven head of the team - I know given the investment that the hotel needs to make the improvements that she and the lovely team will make Kefalonia Bay Palace even more amazing.

Having read reviews, as you do when choosing a hotel for a well deserved holiday, I was attracted to the comments regarding the outstanding views and outstanding it was!

We arrived on Tuesday 22nd August @ 13.30 ish, check in was very straight forward and the complimentary glass of fizz was much appreciated. Although our villa was not quite ready, check in is not until 3.00 so we were early, but within 20 minutes we were called to say it was ready.

We were in Villa 103 and for a family of 3, my wife and I and our 16 year old daughter, this was ideal and very clean. All you need for room, coffee machine, fridge and brilliant air con!!

Our outside area, including our own pool was massive!! I have been to hotels with similar size area which would have up to 20 sunbeds, we had 3.

Breakfast was good, plenty choice, hot, cold just a typical continental breakfast, no complaints whatsoever.

The staff are extremely nice, always a hello and a huge smile, nothing is too much trouble, a credit to the hotel management.

If you have read reviews about the location and how steep it is……well that’s true, you can’t deny that. For us the 108 steps to climb to the villa was not an issue however we did find it’s easier to walk up the road as if heading to the reception.

Although the hotel was full, it’s very quiet. If you are wanting a hotel with entertainment on a night this ain’t for you but again reading previous reviews we knew this would be quiet and that suited us.

The main town , Agia Effimia, is a 10/15 minute walk and has everything you need, tavernas, cocktails bars, gift shops, 2 supermarkets and a busy harbour.

We stayed for 7 nights and ate somewhere different every night and each night the food didn’t disappoint. Food and drink prices are very reasonable and the staff, typical Greeks, very hospitable!

I have to say it was the quickest week ever and without doubt not long enough. Apart from walking to Agia, we didn’t venture very far, why bother when you have your own pool and a view to die for?? However I wish we had taken the boat cruise round Ithaca and hired one the Yellow Boats to explore all the hidden coves that can’t be reach by foot.

I suppose that’s an excuse to go back!

In summary I don’t have anything negative to say about our stay at the Kefalonia Palace Bay Hotel and to conclude, this hotel is an absolute GEM!!

This was my second visit to Kefalonia Bay Palace in Agia Efimia. The first was a 'reccy' with my son in Oct 2022 as he & his now wife had chosen the beautiful Island of Kefalonia as a location to get married.

June 2023 was the week that the whole wedding party stayed in and around the local area with most family members staying at the hotel (about 45 people).

The two things that stand out about both my stays, the absolutely incredible views that every single room has out over the bay & onto the Island of Ithaca & the warm and genuine service from the staff, lead by Parwane the Manager.

We had booked out 4 of the six 'villas' plus many deluxe & standard rooms. The villas offer more space, with an indoor seating/lounge area, large patio with your own pool & loungers. All the rooms come with a fridge & tea making facilities (& that view). The only difference between a standard room & deluxe that I could see was that the standard rooms (206-212) looked out over the main building and the lovely red tiled roof was visible just below. This definitely did not spoil the view. These rooms were better placed as they were nearer to the main block.

The hotel is quite quirky & decorated in traditional Ionian colours & tiles. Some bathrooms may need a little updating but the vibe of the hotel is very traditional. The breakfast is a simple & adequate buffet. They do serve dinner although we did not experience this.

The rooms are all set into & up the cliff with the hotel being the last property at the end of the road in & out of Agia Efimia. The steep nature of the layout may be a challenge for some not so mobile and some of the higher rooms are accessed by an exterior glass lift. My 86 year old mother came with us & stayed in room 206 which was more accessible. Agia Efimia has a truly authentic Greek village feel to it with lots of tavernas, two very well stocked little supermarkets, two fabulous bakeries & lots of options for boat rental. The walk into the village from the hotel is a lovely one, all along the Harbour and takes about 10-15 mins to get to main base of the village.

There is a lovely little beach (pebbles) literally just below the hotel.

In summery, we loved it so much that my husband & I are returning in Sept 2023 to stay once again at the hotel and do a little more exploring of the lovely island. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel as a great base for an adventure.

Dear jbh022, thank you so much for taking the time to write just a detailed comment, expressing your experience and feelings. Very nicely and genuine written. It was indeed wonderful to have you all here, our very first wedding venue and we enjoyed it as much as you did! Thank you specifically for pointing out our lovely staff and our traditional Ionian touch, which slowly becomes a uniqueness as well and therefore an add on to our already unique location with these unbeatable views. Once again Thank You! We look forward to welcoming you in September again! Warm Regards and a safe flight, Kefalonia Bay Palace Management & Team

A wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel with a friendly family service in relaxing surroundings. It was wonderful for the children and they could not have made us feel more welcome. Clean rooms, beautiful pool, restaurant service and breakfasts were excellent. Built within the hills so it is a climb, but it gives the rooms a spacious boutique feel and fantastic views that we will not forget. A big thank you to Marios and George for their kind help and will certainly return again.

Ok so this hotel built into the mountain has the best views of any hotel on Kefalonia.
We went there at the start of September where the hotel had only 5 rooms out of 48 booked but I have to say was a nice change not fighting for sun beds.
Having said that the staff such as Elsie and Marios and the last in reception were fantastic, welcoming, informative and just lovely.

The rooms were well appointed and overlooked the bay so we had sun all day long in our room and at the pool.

We did hire a car and I am glad we didn’t. There are three tavernas within 5 mins walk however you’ll keep fit by walking down as we counted 112 steps from our room to the road below which was fine however when you have a few drinks take your time going back.

The village is quite near and it would take you 20 mins walk where you can sit at a bar overlooking the bay, have an ice cream or cakes and dinner.
Great location great hotel and lovely people.

We stayed as a family for 6 nights and had a great time. The family room was a little disappointing when we first went in as it was small for a family of 4, however we didn’t spend any time in the room except to sleep so it was actually fine. The breakfast isn’t perfect, and some good coffee would have been much appreciated, but considering the price point of the hotel I think it’s really good value.

The location and pool are amazing and I think that’s what really made it for us. Spending time by the pool was a pleasure and we really enjoyed the Greek Salad and toasties from the pool bar. There’s a little cove for swimming just down from the hotel which is lovely. We didn’t hire a car but used taxis to get to Antisamos beach and Assos. Agia Effimia is quite small but it’s really pretty and there’s a good selection of restaurants and a few things to do. We hired a boat one of the days from yellow boats at the harbour, and also took a cruise to Ithaca, both of which were great days out. The ice cream from Daily Art is outstanding.
