We have travelled to the Isles of Scilly many times but this year was certainly different as it was our first during the autumn and our little beagle became ill. The stress of being in a remote location was completely taken away by the hotel receptionists, Francesca and Jeanette, who organised vet, boat and taxi so that our dog received the antibiotics she needed. We were so relieved and were able to enjoy the rest of our holiday as usual. We also really appreciated the prompt response to our request for some extra heating as storm Alex was in full swing. We enjoyed all the food we had: the appetisers were imaginative, although we did rather miss the canapes of the past; the extra vegetables were varied and cooked just as we like them. All the staff were competent and helpful. We do hope that newspapers will be available again next year.

I'm at loss to understand the glowing reviews. This was our third stay and we left very disappointed. It seems they have joined the, do as little as possible for the most money club, due to Covid. Cheap foam pillows, toiletries not filled up. Cobwebs everywhere (look behind the porthole of the front door room 1). No newspapers because of Covid, despite evidence to show there's no risk. Annoyingly intermittent internet. The food was good, despite cold porridge one morning and bacon like leather. Restaurant staff were excellent. Our room was rundown. Shower ratchet was broken and the bathroom needed updating.

Dear cehowell, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and firstly let me apologies for the stay not living up to your two previous visits. The health and safety of our guests and team is a priority and we have been having to follow the guidance given to secure this. Unfortunately, this has meant newspapers have not been available to guests due to the process in getting them from the newsagent to Bryher with multiple points of contact. Now that you have highlighted the housekeeping and maintenance points within this suite, I will look into it to ensure it is at the standard expected at Hell Bay. I do hope once we, as a world, are back to normality you will return to Hell Bay and enjoy it as you once did. Kind Regards, Francesca

Perfection. Comfortable and large room with stupendous views, fabulous food presented beautifully and amazing staff. Little wonder that this hotel is constantly recommended by travel writers. Relaxing and glorious walks on the island. Boat trips to other islands available, if you can drag yourself away from this haven. Dramatic seascape, especially during wild and windy weather. Highly recommended.

The Island is utterly beautiful, which must help, but the level of work involved in making visitors feel welcome and indulged in stylish luxury on a smallish granite rock must be staggering. The rooms are charming and impeccably clean and the food sublime but what really stands out is the charm of the staff.

We were lucky enough to stay in the hotel in July and again in September. The hotel is in the most beautiful situation and the weather during our stay was fantastic but what made the stay totally memorable was the amazing treatment we had. We were quite a complex booking for a number of reasons but from my first contact to being waved good-bye, the team were magnificent. The hotel brilliantly manages to be relaxed as well as luxurious and the food, service and ambience made our stay a joy. We loved it all and hope to return soon... perhaps with less complex requirements! Thank-you Hell Bay Hotel.
