Lovely old Inn in a fantastic position by the harbour and on the High Street. It couldn’t be more convenient for the jetty to sail to the Off Islands; for walking around the coast; for the small town centre and amenities. The views from our sea-view room were truly fantastic with the sea, at high-tide, reaching the wall under our window. So much to look at. The upper terrace is a great place to sit with a drink and watch all the boating activities. The breakfasts were excellent, couldn’t be bettered. The staff were friendly and helpful, special mentions for Neil, Simon and Maz who were lovely. But thanks to all the staff for such a wonderful holiday. Also, the cleaning and disinfecting of tables etc, in between customers was excellent and very safe during these difficult times of Covid 19. We were well looked after and had a great time. Thank you all at the Atlantic.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. The room was simply but very well equipped, spotlessly clean and with a very comfortable bed. It was well worth paying the extra for a "sea view room:" the town harbour spread out before us with boats of all shapes and sizes bobbing around. The staff were excellent; Neil, the manager, was very good humoured and helpful, as were receptionist Liv and waiter Maz. The food was first class; in five days we had not one disappointing meal, and the chef showed a keen imagination with all kinds of flavours and herbs. Gluten-free meals were produced without any fuss, often offering a choice of starters, mains and desserts - a first in our experience. One slight hiccup on our arrival (not their fault) was a missing bag which had been wrongly delivered by the carrier from the ship. Liv and Neil calmly followed up the problem, and the missing bag was with us within the hour. They think of themselves as much as a pub as a hotel, and I can confirm that their real ales were all superbly kept - I tried the lot! In short I cannot recommend the Atlantic Inn too highly. We'll be back!

We stayed for three nights, benefitted from a free upgrade to our room which was extremely comfortable and well appointed with a super modern shower room. We ate and drank in the bar / restaurant which was great and the breakfast which was included in the price was also really good with a couple of options. We would definitely stay here again, the hotel is superbly located for the Quay and day boats plus the Scillonian and is in the centre of Hugh town.

We had 4 nights in a lovely big room overlooking the sea. The bed was very comfortable and facilities excellent.
The hotel have made sure everyone is safe with sanitiser at the entrances and a very good cleaning process between customers.
The menu has been cut right down in order to keep staff safe in the kitchen, so we didn't really see what the usual standard is, what we were offered was lovely but very limited, especially in the evening if you were looking for a healthy option.
The only criticism I have is that you have to keep logging into the WiFi as it only lasts for 3hrs a session!
We will definitely be coming back.

Great location by the shops, cafes, and boats. However, we arrived at 5:30pm on Saturday to be told there were no tables free in the restaurant or bar all evening. Had to go to the chip shop for dinner. People from other hotels had been notified in advance that it was difficult to get a table for dinner, and they had booked in advance at our hotel. This was during the pandemic, but all the more reason that the Atlantic should have given priority to people paying to stay in their hotel.

We stayed at the Atlantic at the start of this week as part of a staycation to mark when we would have been getting married. This is the first time staying in a hotel since COVID and it was very clean and staff took precautions to make sure that everything was as safe possible.

Our room was lovely- we had a beautiful view overlooking Porthloo beach which was really handy in taking our dogs out in the mornings before breakfast.

Breakfast was fab- I’m gluten free and they had lots of options available.

We couldn’t have asked for better service- friendly, accommodating and when we were just after drinks they made every effort to put us as a priority in the busy pub.

We are already looking at booking again next year! Safe to say we loved our stay!

When I first visited Scilly 60-odd years ago the Atlantic Hotel was a power in the land, on a par with the Star Castle and Tregarthens (and, more recently, with the newcomers on Tresco and St Martins). It was a hotel for the discerning and well off, who expected and found high standards in all departments. The ostensibly separate Atlantic Inn, meanwhile, catered for hoi polloi like me. Nowadays, the two are one (though "Hotel" and "Inn" (or neither) seem to be used, indiscriminately) and are firmly in thrall to the bean counters at St Austell Brewery. Predictably, standards have fallen to the lowest common denominator.

We stayed for 4 nights, probably in the same Sea View double as Bob9112 (Review Aug 2020). Having asked for an "easy access" room because of somewhat limited mobility; £230 a night bought us an attic conversion which the old Atlantic, had it gone in for such a thing, would have turned into a handsome, comfortable double room instead of 3 or 4 rabbit hutches. The epithet is apt because we were at the far end of a warren, up 44 stairs, and it was, to say the least, cramped - the bed was generous, but took up half of the usable floor space; there was only room for one bedside table and none for anything resembling drawer space; and it was difficult for two adults to pass each other anywhere. The view was indeed stunning if you could squeeze into the dormer window, but like Bob9112 we suffered from noise (boiler/extractor fan?) and from next door's conversation and TV.

Breakfasts were very good, although on one occasion we had to wait 40 minutes to be served. Dinner was a different matter, though similarly slow; a dull, uninspiring menu such as the bean counters have foisted on all St Austell pubs, heavy on the freezer and chip fryer and thin on fresh vegetables; it is said to be limited by Covid measures (why?), but it is far from inspiring. How can it be that a locally owned and operated garden restaurant directly across the bay can serve wonderful, fresh, locally sourced food, quickly and at very reasonable prices, but the Atlantic cannot?

The staff were mostly friendly and helpful and tried hard, but there were too few of them, hence the long waits for table service. We checked out on our final evening as we had an early flight, and the last straw was to be called on the tannoy at the airport to be publicly reprimanded because the card with which we paid the bill was "out of date"; it wasn't, but there was no apology - just "must be a machine error".

The Isles of Scilly are a wonderful, beautiful, exhilarating and invigorating holiday destination, and we shall return yet again. But we won't be staying at the Atlantic.

My husband and myself stayed for 4 nights last week. We had booked quite late and were given the last room which was small and overlooked the road but was very comfortable and the bathroom looked recently refurbished. The only niggle was that the sash window barely opened 2 cms and the room was very warm.
The breakfasts were lovely with a harbour view and we particularly enjoyed the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! The staff were lovely and friendly and the covid distancing rules were well thought out. We had one evening meal in the restaurant, fish and chips, which was lovely. We would definitely visit again and recommend it.

Despite the current difficult circumstances, The Atlantic did everything that could be done to make our stay there an absolute pleasure. Our room, overlooking the picturesque harbour, featured contemporary furniture and decoration, was very comfortable, and lived up to The Atlantic's boutique reputation. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and every precaution was taken to keep us safe without taking the pleasure out of our stay. The welcome from Liv was first rate, we instantly felt at home with her friendly and personal manner and she provided excellent customer service throughout our stay. Restaurant manager Simon was also superb, coping with high demand and the constraints of social distancing with constant good humour despite all that was thrown at him. But these are difficult times, and guests need to manage their expectations as the menu is necessarily very limited, and a top-up from the local co-op could well mean an hour in their queue. My advice would be to book every meal ahead of your stay to ensure you can eat at your base, or if venturing out make a clear plan as eating options are currently limited, even more so on the off-islands.
