Me and my boyfriend wanted a break away and Carnwethers was perfect. We stayed in the B&B, breakfast each morning was amazing! So many options and catered for everyone. The room was so fresh and clean and the comfiest bed! Rachel and Jeff live on site and are always around to help with what we needed and where we needed to go for the best walks. Couldn’t have been a more relaxed getaway, especially with pelistry beach a 5 minute walk away for an evening bbq.
We stayed in Dove Lawn Cottage and what a disappointment. The photos on the website make it look beautiful and we were so excited in reality it is shabby, tired and out of date. Our accommodation had a stale bad smell and was full of flies, two out of three doors didn’t open and cobwebs and dead daddy long legs cling to the outside of the grubby windows. The kitchen is badly equipped and there are no extras not so much and as a dishwasher tablet or scouring pad to wash up with. The furniture is old fashioned and seen better days The photos don’t show the avocado bathroom suite with a white toilet seat and dated light and a very odd utility sink just outside the door. Some sun beds by the pool were broken as was one outside our accommodation. The electrical appliances were last PAT tested in 2017 and the hand sanitisers were all alcohol free. There was no information about the accommodation inside and we had to ask about recycling, rubbish, check out etc the only information included was shop and wine prices. On a positive note it was warm, there was plenty of hot water and a nice new shower in one en-suite.…
Really comfy, well-equipped accommodation. The owners had gone to great lengths to make the flat covid-safe. Good size swimming pool - one household at a time. Basic groceries available for sale on site. Close to a stunning beach and coastal walks. Easy to get around - takes about 30-40 minutes to walk into Hugh Town. Reliable local taxi service when needed.
My wife and I, together with our 2 cocker spaniels, have just enjoyed another fabulous 2 sunny weeks at Carnwethers in our favourite apartment - RowanTree, made even better after being fully renovated. This self catering apartment is perfect for us and very comfortable. Jeff and Rachel continue to invest in Carnwethers and have thought through the challenges posed by Covid -19. Each apartment now has its own barbecue. Hand sanitisers provided in all areas. Great care has been taken when cleaning the rooms etc. Nothing has been left to chance....well done. A well stocked pantry/shop has been introduced which provides for those food essentials needed (or forgotten). The quality of the frozen chicken/bacon etc was superb and very reasonably priced. Social distancing arrangements extended to the pool area. The pool itself was regularly cleaned and the concentration of chlorine checked and adjusted as required. The garden areas were well maintained and a delight to sit in. Carnwethers remains our first choice accommodation on St Mary', being located near Pelistry Bay but within easy walking distance of both Old Town, Hugh Town and the harbour. (35 minute stroll) We are booked in already for next year.....need I say more!…
Great week on St Mary’s from 1st day of travel from 4 July at our favourite place made even better by Jeff and Rachel and their thoughtful and thorough Covid 19 arrangements. Will be returning for a 4th or 5th visit! John and Anne Bristol
