Bell Rock Hotel has been welcoming guests for over 100 years - we look forward to your visit. We offer friendly, informal, attentive service, by caring staff. We are ideally situated in a level position, midway between Town Beach to the front and Porthcressa Bay at the rear. Both beaches are about 100 yards away! Our location is very convenient, quiet and central. Shops, entertainment and the museum are close by. The harbour is less than 10 minutes walk, with boats to Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes and St Martins daily in the season (subject to weather and tides). Our friendly staff will do everything possible to ensure your stay with us is relaxing and enjoyable.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stayed in the self catering apartment at the Bell Rock hotel. It was spacious and clean and felt like a home from home. The hotel staff were all very pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the apartment to others, it had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

This was our second visit to the Bell Rock. Daniel (Manager) and all his staff, those seen and those unseen, provided once again an excellent service throughout our stay. The rooms are light and airy and the the beds very comfortable. There is always a good choice of food at breakfast and the evening meal provides three choices for starters, mains and sweets. Vegetarians are well catered for. As one local put it 'the Bell Rock punches well above its 2* rating'! We shall be back.

Spent 4 nights here. Rooms and public areas are well decorated and fitted out and kept spotlessly clean. Booked first night only with dinner but changed to every night as the food was excellent, the staff friendly and the service was great. Only a five minute stroll to the centre of town and a further five to the boats to the islands. All staff friendly and helpful , a really well run hotel that I will definitely use again. The stairs to the upper floors are fairly steep so if you are not good with stairs probably best to mention that when booking.

An excellent holiday at Bell Rock Hotel. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was consistently of a high standard with plenty of choice. We had a mini suite which we very much enjoyed. Swimming pool was great and heated. Would recommend to those seeking a comfortable hotel in the lovely Scilly Isles

Stayed for ten nights. The food was excellent. Restaurant service equally good. The room was a compact double which I occupied as a single room. It was fine and the daily housekeeping perfect. Many guests I spoke to told me they return every year.

My husband and I had 5 nights stay in the Bell Rock hotel with Half Board . We had a good sized room with an absolutely massive bed bigger than King Size which was extremely comfortable due to a good quality mattress and pillows. The en suite bathroom was a good size with an excellent shower. The room was clean and remained so during our stay due to the efficiency of the staff coming in daily to empty the bin, change towels if required, top up tea and coffee etc. Now onto the food. There was a good choice at breakfast time with cereal, fruit juice, yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants and porridge cooked to order along with the traditional English breakfast and toast with marmalade or jam. The evening meals always had a choice of starters, main course and desserts. There was always a meat, vegetarian or fish option for the main course. The food at the evening meals was always beautifully presented and tasted good too. I personally had soup as a starter every night as the soups were so good. After your evening meal complimentary tea and coffee are served in the small lounge. Finally I must mention all those at the hotel who work so hard to keep their customers happy, Daniel the manager, the receptionists, the chefs, the waiters and waitresses and the room staff. A huge thank you in particular to Ben, the restaurant manager who makes sure everything runs smoothly. He is happy to engage in conversation with his customers if they want him too. My husband and I would certainly stay at this hotel again. It gets 5 stars all round.

Spent 7 nights at this hotel with 5 nights including dinner. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. We were in room 15 which was on the first floor and had distant views to the sea through the trees (you might not be able to see the sea during summer when the trees have leaves). The room and bathroom were both large and had windows overlooking the front of the hotel and the road, although as there are hardly any cars on St Mary's, road noise was never a problem. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed. There was an iron and ironing board to borrow on each floor. The hotel is in a great location between 2 beaches and is easy to walk into town and to the quay for daily boat trips. At first we thought that having 5 nights dinner included would be too restrictive, but now we know there are only 10 places to eat dinner in Hugh Town (1 very expensive, 1 fully booked until September and 1 only re-opened on the day we left), we are glad that we went for that option. The dinner menu changed everyday with 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 puddings, plus fruit salad, ice cream and cheese & biscuits. Being a non meat eater, there was always something that I wanted to try (starters and mains always had a fish dish and vegetarian dish) and the food was really well cooked and presented. The portions was small enough to not feel stuffed at the end of the meal and meant there was always room for dessert! Drinks prices were reasonable considering it's a hotel and there is a small bar in the restaurant where you could get a drink to enjoy in the lounge. Free tea and coffee were also available in the lounge after dinner. The only thing I didn't like was being seated on the same restaurant table each day (i'd have preferred a different view each time) and being allocated a set time for breakfast and dinner each day. It just felt a little restrictive and old fashioned to do it like this, although I understand why they do it. When we were there it was mostly couples and a small walking group which was a great mix of people and everyone talked to each other and gave recommendations for day trips and cafes, so it was a really nice relaxed stay. I'll definitely be back to Scilly one day.

The hotel is situated a short walk from the harbour and sits between High Town beach at the front and Porthcressa beach at the rear. It was amazing to walk out each morning with a beach a minute or so walk away. The hotel was furnished to a high standard and cleanliness was excellent. Our room was compact however the suitcases fitted under the bed which gave us more space. It was a delight to return every day to a clean, bright and aromatic bedroom. There is a pool which looked clean and inviting. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff courteous, prompt and knowledgeable. On one occasion the vegetarian option had proved a favourite but the chef cooked me a superb risotto and my husband a tasty omelet. There are a number of steps in the hotel and my husband has limited mobility. We managed but users of wheelchairs should enquire. A special thank you to Ben, who was attentive and unfailingly helpful. He immediately comprehended the vulnerabilities of some of the group and was empathic and respectful. His colleagues clearly emulated his approach. We hope to return to the hotel and explore more of the islands.

A very good hotel; comfotable accommodation, good food and friendly staff. They looked after our group of 21 Ramblers exceedingly well. An excellent hotel to stay in for our week's stay whilst visiting the other islands. The hotel deserves more than its 2 * rating
