Chris & Paul welcome you to the "Mussel Bed" - nestled amidst native bush, tropical gardens & streams & yet, so close to beautiful Cooks Beach. A perfect base to explore Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach which is only a 10 mins drive. Our self-contained cottage has 2 bedrooms and sleeps up to 5 people. Our guest wing has 3 luxurious suites, tiled en suites & french doors opening onto private decks with all those special touches our guests love! We bring breakfast to you on a tray to enjoy in our lovely garden. Kayak the stream from our jetty and enjoy the natural bird habitat, exploring caves and walking on gorgeous Lonely Bay! We look forward to making your stay a special one.

We booked in to one of the double rooms, fully equipped with all we needed, nice deck to sit out on and eat our delicious breakfast. Comfortable bed, very clean and spacious. Shane and Andrea were great, interesting, friendly hosts with plenty of information about the area, what to do and where to eat etc. The location is really good with easy access to plenty of beautiful locations, sights and towns in the area. A good choice and we wish them well.

There are people who do service and then there’s Shane and Andrea. From the first greeting to the final goodbye, the service at this B&B is second to none. Helped us arrange a superb two day stay and made sure we had everything we needed - amazing Kiwi hospitality. Cooks Beach is beautiful and tranquil and somewhere not to be missed. Absolutely loved our stay and the hosts made it extra special - many thanks.

This B&B is wonderfully comfortable, very well equipped and is full of nice little touches. It is very stylish in its decor too. The three rooms open onto a small terrace and then an extensive garden. The room has plenty of space and seats. There is a good quality coffee machine as well as a range of teas and chilled water is ready in the fridge. The extra little touches are dressing gowns, hot pipes on all the time to dry the towels and the undies, a drying rack, and fresh flowers in the bathroom. Highly recommended.

Mussel Bed B&B is a perfect example of how a B&B should be. Great Hosts, tranquil location, excellent accommodation with lots of thought on detail for what you need (that we all take for granted but not Shane and Andrea). Add the local knowledge and guidance needed to enjoy/explore the area and then a bumper breakfast to please everyone why would you need anything more. Go!

We visited the Mussel Bed Boutique B&B in late March of 2019 and were delighted with our stay and with our host and hostess! The beds were comfy and the refrigerator in our stand-alone cottage was well-stocked. It was a beautiful location and they were quite helpful in recommendations for eating and attractions. I would definitely stay there again! We stayed in the 2-bedroom cottage with one bedroom downstairs and one up. The single bathroom/shower is downstairs with no outlets. Hair drying was done outside of the bathroom. There were plenty of outlets for charging devices and batteries.

Trying to differentiate between the places we stayed at ended up no 11 of 15 BBs/Lodges/Hotels based on our personal scoring between accommodation standard, hosting, breakfast and location. Hosts were excellent, rooms and bathrooms feel a little exposed.

We had a three night break here in January, and very good it was too. Shane and Andrea are excellent hosts, making sure we were comfortable and fully briefed about all the area has to offer - and it's a lot! The restaurants in Cooks Beach are close to hand, and the ferry to Whitianga is within reasonable distance, maybe slightly too far to walk (as we found out on as hot day!) but parking is easy enough. We wish Shane and Andrea All the Best in their venture, and they were right in recommending the Thermal Wonderland for our journey down to Lake Taupo - thanks! Jonathan and Janet 26-28 Jan.

My friend and I are travelling for a month round New Zealand and our first B and B was The Mussel B and B. What a lovely way to start our trip. We arrived to be greeted by Shane and Andrea who were just so welcoming.we were shown to our lovely suite The Beach Hut. It was so homely.We had a decking area outside where Shane brought our breakfast to us each morning. It was excellent. A different hot dish each morning. So fresh. Shane and Andrea have only being running this B and B for just over 1 Year. I am sure they will go from strength to strength. They are the most delightful couple and cannot be more helpful. We would highly recommend Mussel B and B

We stayed in the Pacifica Suite for 2 nights in December, shortly before Christmas. The suite was very nicely furnished and decorated, the bed was large and comfortable and the shower was refreshingly powerful. Angie and Shane were the perfect hosts, offering spades to use for digging on Hot Water Beach and providing lots of useful information including the times for low tide, ferry information to Whitianga (just up the road), etc. Breakfast was brought to your room and the choices were different for each day - all superbly cooked with fresh ingredients. A great place to stay!

We stayed for 3 nights at the start of our recent holiday. We were delayed from our flight into Auckland and arrived really late, but no trouble for Shane and Andrea who gave us a very warm Kiwi welcome and got us settled. The accomodation was fantastic, breakfast served to the room, location ideal and when we were ready, all the information you could need about the local area, even down to booking experiences, restaurants etc. Do yourselves a favour and stay here. You won't regret it. Thank you Shane and Andrea for getting our trip off to the perfect start !
