I've had the pleasure of staying at The Umstead a number of times over the last decade and it never disappoints. Not only is the hotel a truly hidden gem but the staff and service are excellent. The setting is lovely with so many trees surrounding the property and so much wildlife to immerse yourself in, its lovey. The lake...

I had always wanted to stay at the Umstead, and finally got my chance in late Oct 2016 with a 2 night stay for meetings in nearby Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. My stay was brilliant. The property is comparable to a very good city/suburban Four Seasons in terms of decor, amenities, service, and food/beverage. Aside from 2 minor...

For us, the service and rooms are a cut above the Chicago Peninsula or Four Seasons. We had a one-bedroom lake suite with two balconies and 1.5 bathrooms. Everything worked perfectly. We liked ordering in-room dining from the iPad and typing our specific requests. We had dinner and breakfast in the room and both were accurate and to temperature. The...

The Umstead has the prices and trappings of a 5 star hotel but fails to deliver the key essential - delivering excellent service unobtrusively and professionally in a way that makes guests feel completely at home. Breakfast in the restaurant exemplified all that is wrong with the hotel. Staff seem to think they are centre stage and show no respect...

I travel a lot, and the Umstead Hotel continues to be one of my top 3 favorite hotels to visit. I've stayed at the Umstead at least a dozen times over the last 5+ years, and I always am excited to return. This past week's trip was no different. The hotel entrance is always fascinating. I'm always eager to see...

Though we live only about 15 miles away in Durham, my wife and I stayed overnight at the Umstead to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. At seemed kind of silly when we made the reservations (since we are so close to home), but it provided a lovely "get-away" and a special way to celebrate. The facilities and service are first-class,...

Spent one night for a quick staycation and I can promise I will be back. Everything at this property is first class. The staff is consistently excellent and helpful. The rooms are comfortable...great bed, nice shower, just high end everywhere. The hotel is close to the highway yet the setting is serene. The restaurant is excellent and there is outdoor...

Our recent/stay was spectacular and honestly there was not one negative aspect. The resort is top notch and there is not one detail that wasn't thought of. We had a complimentary room upgrade and the one bedroom suite is simply exquisite! We rented a pool cabana and I highly recommend this amenity as it is the ultimate in relaxation! Sunday...

We were EXTREMELY impressed with this hotel. My husband is working on a project at a company in Raleigh so my daughter and I flew out to visit him. We stayed at the hotel for three nights. It is not a destination hotel, meaning I wouldn't fly to NC just to stay at this hotel as you would to a...

Simply my favorite place to go for a weekend getaway or high tea. The service and atmosphere reflect the 5-Star rating. The food is delicious and the staff very accommodating. The Spa area is very nice with a private hot tub outside.
