Wonderful views, very secluded. Breakfast on both days of our stay was excellent. Great place to unwind, get away from technology, and relax. The Bonfire at sunset was very great! Highlands was just a short 15 min drive away along a beautiful road with 2 scenic overlooks.

We had the most wonderful experience at Fire Mountain Inn. when we arrived, we were informed that we would be upgraded to a larger room in the Inn. The room was nicely appointed and the view was spectacular. The sunrise on our last morning was a showstopper. Because it is tucked away from downtown Highlands, you have the opportunity to unwind and enjoy the beautiful grounds. We spent one morning walking the trails and loved the quiet solitude. The breakfast each morning was delicious and the owners, Hiram and Matthew were gracious hosts and shared tips for exploring and places to eat in town. Our stay exceeded our expectations. Will definitely plan to return.

My husband and I returned to Fire Mountain over the Thanksgiving weekend for a second getaway, this time with a best friend in tow. We were delighted that Galax cabin was available which we had enjoyed so much the first time around! Tunrning off the highway and up the steep road to Fire Mountain immediately reminded me that we wouldn't be just spending a couple of nights in a cabin, but we were on retreat. Hiram and Matthew have created such a peaceful mountaintop haven. From the accommodations to the cuisine to the Saturday night bonfire, we could not have asked for anything more. Thanks, guys! You will be seeing us again!

We just returned from an amazing Thanksgiving dinner from Fire + Water, atop Fire Mountain, just outside of Highlands, NC. The afternoon began with drinks and conversation in a beautiful setting with a spectacular views of the Appalachian Mountains. A variety of wines complimented each course while a full bar was available on request. The prix fixe menu was perfectly designed to compliment each item from the poached pear salad and warm pumpkin soup to moist turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, kale and collard casserole and moist corn bread. The flavors, colors and textures were each a special dish in their own right. Desserts were top-shelf. The staff paid close attention to every detail and service was well-timed. All in all, a small venue that is a true gem in the mountains of

We had a wonderful experience, the grounds are beautiful, the views both of sunset and sunrise over the mountains are breathtaking. Accommodations were very clean. Food was very well prepared. Hiram made sure we had a pleasant itinerary for our hikes around Highlands. Matthew made our meals an enjoyable and delicious experience. Downtown Highlands is a 15-20 minute drive and Hiram recommended nice restaurants. Thank you!

Fire Mountain is a rare find in the beauty of the NC mountains. Hosts Hiram and Matthew offer a chance to unplug and relax in an elegant and peaceful setting. From the porch of our Cloud Climber room, we watched clouds drifting below the mountaintops at sunrise and the sky light up as the sun sank below the farthest ridge at sunset. Chef Matthew’s coffee and breakfast were as delicious way to start every day. Hiking to peaks and waterfalls, horseback riding at Arrowmont, shopping in Highlands, lots more adventure available in the area, but the best part of every day was coming back to the peace, quiet and total beauty of Fire Mountain.

This Inn is advertised as a full service luxury Inn. It is neither, the website lists services and amenities that are not offered. They serve coffee at 8:15 and breakfast at 9. There are no other services, not even drinks. Highlands is a 20 minute drive so this is very inconvenient. There is no one on the property except during breakfast. The rooms in the Inn have been renovated but the exterior is not in good condition. This Inn is tremendously overpriced. There are much better options in the area.

Responded 30 Sept 2022
This post is filled with preposterous lies! Fire Mountain Inn, Cabins & Treehouses is advertised as a full service boutique resort not as a full service luxury Inn. We are a three star property as indicated on Trip Advisor, not a four star or five star property. Every service and amenity listed on our website is offered and provided. To say our website lists services and amenities that are not offered is inaccurate. Yes we do have early coffee out in the Kitchen Cafe for guests @ 8:15 am and breakfast is served in our Fire + Water Restaurant beginning at 9 am the details of which are located on our website so that one may have this information in advance of booking. At breakfast we provide a very nice relaxed start to each day as our guests are here to relax and getaway, enjoy our spectacular mountain top location and to connect with nature and the outdoors. Highlands is located exactly 6.2 miles down a beautiful scenic highway from the entrance to Fire Mountain’s hundreds of acres. It does not take 20 minutes to drive 6.2 miles to Highlands. The best way to determine if the place in which you are booking is located where you want to be is to search the business address online and look at a map. At the time Debbie stayed with us there were numerous full time employees and numerous part time employees plus numerous vendors that enable Fire Mountain Inn, Cabins & Treehouses to operate 24 hours a day / 365 days a year. If there is no one on the property except during breakfast how are all of the accommodations cleaned, how are the vast lawns and landscape maintained, how is our gravel road system maintained, how are maintenance request handled, how are guests checked in and acclimated to the property just as Debbie was, how are reservations taken, how are enhancements prepared and delivered, how are massages provided in our spa, how is lunch, brunch & dinner prepared and served and the list goes on and on. To say no services are provided outside breakfast is truly a joke and a blatant lie. The Inn is exactly as described and photographed inside and outside and is in excellent condition. If the Inn is tremendously overpriced how have we been in business for over 25 years and why is that not indicated in the over 500 reviews we have on Trip Advisor alone? Our prices are in line with our upscale market area or we would have been out of business 25 years ago. Debbie, we are very sorry that you did not like Fire Mountain and wish you would have discussed this with us prior to writing this review. If you are disappointed with something please let management know immediately so that they may have an opportunity to assist.

My husband is recovering from an extended illness and we needed a place that offered peace and quite.....we found that place! One gift Fire Mountain gave us was "permission" to unplug and not feel bad about it! The grounds are immaculate, the accommodations were exactly like the pictures, and the owners are as unique as this wonderful space they've so lovingly created. From the informative check-in with Hiram to the delicious, perfectly portioned breakfasts from Matthew, to the wonderful soaking tub in our room...we couldn't have been more pleased with the attention to detail. Hiram greeted us each morning with a smile and engaged us in a discussion of what we had done the day before and what we had planned for the day. He offered great suggestions as he knows the area so

With the growing dissatisfaction toward the hospitality industry today we cannot express how supportive and gratifying your review make us feel. It is guest like you that feed our desire to share the beauty and knowledge of the Highlands of Western North Carolina. Thank you for your recommendations for other guest who would like to visit Fire Mountain. Our staff strive to give our guest a beautiful, restful and satisfying experience . My husband and I finally planned a vacation getaway for July. For a frame of reference, my last “vacation” was spine surgery in 2020. We reserved a week at Fire Mountain Inn, scheduled for a week from now. Unfortunately, in the past 2 weeks, COVID has hit everyone in our household and my husband and I have been been especially sick and slow to recover. So my husband called the Inn, explained the situation, and asked if we could move the reservation forward several weeks so that we would not risk exposing his guests and staff to COVID. Hiram said this was not possible, even though the hotel is wide open for the several weeks we asked about. The best he could offer, he said, was to refund half of our deposit, with the other half to be returned if he is able to rent the room to

Responded 8 Aug 2022
The Fire Mountain Reservation Policy has been the same for 26 years and we administer it equally and fairly to all guests. We “never” have made any side agreements to our policy as we do not feel it is equitable to administer the policy one way to some guests and another way to other guests. The Cancellation part of the Fire Mountain Reservation Policy reads as follows: Because of our small size and secluded location cancellations affect us significantly. For these reasons we uphold a strict cancellation policy. For cancellations made 30 days or more prior to arrival there will be a $50 cancellation processing fee per reserved accommodation. Cancellations made within 30 days of arrival will cause forfeiture of the Reservation Deposit paid at time of booking. You are always welcome to send someone else in your place. Fire Mountain recommends that you purchase travel insurance. This couple booked their reservation online through the Fire Mountain website and were required to approve our Reservation Policy prior to being able to book their reservation online. They booked 5 nights (not a week as indicated in their review) on June 1, 2022, for their July 10, 2022 arrival date, six weeks later. Their cancellation was processed on July 2, 2022 (which they requested by email in writing on July 2, 2022) just 8 days prior to their arrival. Most guests that book 5 nights or longer book six weeks or more from their arrival date just as these folks did, as it takes advance planning in most cases to take that amount of time away. This was also one of the most demand times of the year during which our average stay was between four & 5 nights. It is extremely rare to receive a last minute 5-night booking. They held this accommodation completely off the market for a full month prior to their cancellation. Fire Mountain was unable to book their reserved dates after their cancellation causing a loss of income during this demand period. They did not choose to send someone else in their place which they could have done, and they did not purchase travel insurance which is recommended in the Fire Mountain Reservation Policy which helps alleviate or completely reimburses for the loss of money due to travel cancellation. Numerous calls were made beginning the end of June by the husband Steve to justify and encourage Fire Mountain to breach our Reservation Policy and reschedule their reservation at no penalty (cancel their existing reservation and make a new one) to future dates months out. Even though Steve indicated many times that they were COVID positive at the time he also indicated that everyone in their household was vaccinated and boosted. He even indicated that if the cancellation was going to cost them that they might even come as they had time to quarantine according to CDC Guidelines prior to their arrival. There were also many other personal things that he indicated were problems for he and his wife Rebecca (children having to be moved to two different colleges prior to fall) along with many other personal concerns and events. We do not get into guest’s personal lives but many times we are exposed to much personal drama, just like in the review above that Rebecca posted, which was the case in our situation with them. We do not even know for sure if these folks had COVID but please know that we assume any guest that arrives at Fire Mountain may have COVID (whether they know such or not) and we absolutely take proper precautions for such for the safety of our guests and staff. We still sanitize all surfaces in all public areas, we still practice proper social distancing and all accommodations and our restaurant are completely sanitized prior to occupancy and still to this day our staff does not enter accommodations while our guests are in residence. We are secluded on hundreds of mountaintop acres which offers much space for proper separation. Even in our restaurant we only seat guests at every other table and we have large expanses of outdoor mountain view dining. Some of our guests still arrive in masks and some of our staff still wear masks. We still to this day take COVID and all associated derivatives very seriously. We are incensed that the wife of this couple would insinuate that we would risk the health of our guests and staff, that is a blatant lie which we do not appreciate. These folks are victims of their own personal situations and their own personal actions, and they were trying to transfer those concerns to Fire Mountain which is preposterous and out of the realm of reality and not our responsibility. These folks refused to take any personal responsibility for their actions and agreements regarding their reservation. We never had any conversation or correspondence with the wife Rebecca who is the one that wrote this negative and false review. These folks are not the type of guest that we receive at Fire Mountain and certainly not the type guests that we desire. Yes …what has happened to basic human decency?
