We booked this at quite short notice with low expectations of a week in the sun when covid meant travel was hard. So happy to say it was a fantastic week for the whole familie
Pool facilities were great and something for everyone. Friendly bar for drinks (all inclusive had a good choice) Kids entertainment was good fun with Lollo and Bernie. Think they could have had more things scheduled though and also for the whole family Eg games like bowls, darts etc. I also found it super strange that the entertainment took 2 days off out of 7. Can’t they have a schedule that means there are staff on every day and they have rotating days off?
Evening entertainment was really good! Karin and Daniel were brilliant singers who surely should be on a bigger stage than a hotel in Crete…hope they are spotted and go on to a great career.
Finally, food. Lunch and breakfast were quite repetitive but the evening themes were good and varied. Nice to have 2 nights with a local theme too. No complaints at all!
The only downsides are that there wasn’t really anywhere to go outside of the hotel. It was a long bus drive to the airport so you wouldn’t really go on an excursion and the hotel is on a road with nothing but a few cafes and souvenir shops. But it didn’t matter as we were super happy in the hotel.

Very nice hotel and clean. Situated by the sea. We stayed in a Royal Family apartment which had everything one could wish for. Practical with storage, comfortable beds, good cleaning, very good AC that could even make the room too cold, the balcony was large and had a view of the sea, quiet and comfortable around. Great pools for the kids and lovely down by the sea. The road down to the sea is steep and a bit difficult to walk in if you have difficulty moving / stroller. Overall very hilly and bad with elevators. There was nothing that bothered us because we did not need it. We had all-inclusive and the food was okay but quite monotonous taste-wise. The desserts were pretty much the same every day and tasted similar. Around the hotel there are not much shops and much similar things in the shops. From the airport to the hotel it is a 2 hour long bus ride with very winding roads, the buses lacked AC (when we were there ialf) which made the heat on the way there (left in the afternoon) extremely stressful and the toilet was Locked. The kids got motion sickness so a tip is to think about it.
If you mostly want to sunbathe, swim, take it easy and look around in a smaller town, it is a very good place!

Incredibly nice stay! We stayed in 2 Royal Family rooms with pool and sea view and it was really worth the money. The children had a great time in their own pool, shared pool and the beach, and all of the buffets (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were very good.
The adjacent beach had fine-grained, delicious sand as far as the eye could see, and it was a perfect beach for young and old.
The only thing that was negative here was that we didn't get rooms next to each other, as we ordered and sent our request, but that turned out to be a trifle.
Highly recommend Sunwing Makrigialos, we may have to go back next year.

The hotel is really Swedish-oriented. Many times the guided sets were mostly in Swedish and something in English. Most of the customers were Swedish, so it felt like you had come to Sweden for a beach vacation and not in Greece. Which was really a shame. Definitely a place suitable for families and theres programs/activities from babies to teenagers. I do not recommend the hotel for a couple's holiday. The sheets are not automatically changed from time to time and you have to put them in the basket yourself. I have paid for the hotel and its room service, it is not the customer's job to remove the sheets. When we askes about it, it was said that this is the hotel consept and in our room theres no cleaning on fridays and sundays. We have only 5 cleanings. Theres no information about that either. Otherwise the room is comfortable and the pool area as well, and the staff is friendly. The pool is only open from 10 am to 6 pm, which is a bit strange when the sun rises early in the morning and sets at 8 pm. The hotel itself is a bit confusing because of the different sections, there could be more signs. Plus things are also the aurobic class, the Market and the nearby beach where a sun lounger costs €5. Breakfast is wide. Thought dont recommend th burger from the bar, it was like chewing gum. Location is far from the airport and the town is quiet. I do recommend to eat at Gabbiano, next to the hotel.

Nice hotel, nice location, good food, good staff, good pools and perfectly okay standard rooms. (Chromecast in the room which is nice)
Extremely long and difficult bus journey (2 hours 20 min with a break) with winding roads and no working AC.
A lot of level differences in the hotel, so I don't recommend it for people with poor health. (Walker or wheelchair)
Please note that washing up in the room is not included and there is no dish brush or detergent.
The beach is further down than it appears in the pictures, with a very steep hill down which you can only go up once a day. Unfortunately, the sunbeds on the beach are not included, which is bad.
The All Inclusive drinks are the worst I've ever had in a hotel and could barely drink. The wine was undrinkable either. The beer was perfectly fine.
Satisfied with the trip but will not go here again. (The reason is the long bus journey, the level differences, the distance to the beach and the bad All Inclusive drinks)

Iakavos Kitchen & Grill was amazing, great food and great service. The staff didn't know how well they wanted us, they were extremely alert. The food was of a high standard and they were extremely child-friendly, the children really liked both the staff and the food..

We have returned to this place 4 times. It is a bit expensive. The service from the local staff is great, they are kind and helpful, and we love them. All family vacations, rooms are great especially Zeus, and Afrodite. All-inclusive is a good deal for those with small children and who wish to stay on the premises and have things arranged. Breakfast is ok, lunch and dinner make sure you have options. There is no meal roomservice here, even for breakfast. Feel the hotel lack this. OBC (OceanBeachClub) (or old Minos) great place for adults, not for small children. Very chic and modern, small rooms. The main diningroom is in need of a complete renovation complete with more effective airconditioning. They have many pools from infantpool with suncover, to kid, to teenager, and adult. The beach is great, the chairprice is too expensive, but it ensures you can get one !! The food is neither scandinavian nor greek, something inbetween. The menus are varied, but still very institutional, they need that little extra touch. We have found many cheap small local (Non Tourist....!!!) resturants within a short 10 min car ride. Most of the restaurants beside the hotel and on the beachfront in "downtown Makrigialos" are very expensive(small servings and highprice) and not worth it. Even the grocery shops by the hotel is twice the price of other hidden local grocerystores.(5 min car ride away) We highly recommend to rent a car at the Heraklion airport. Easy and beautiful 1.5 hr drive to the resort. There are many fantastic beaches in SouthEast-NE Crete, incredible vistaes, all within 10-50 min by car from the resort.

Jeg syntes det er en træls og lang tur, men jeg er ikke så god til de lange ture. Altså selve turen er ikke andet end kedelig og lummer, det afhænger selvfølgelig af bussen man kører i.

Vi havde kun sunwing inklusive, så jeg ved faktisk ikke hvad all inklusive inkluderer, men jeg tror ikke at man kan spise gratis i ala carte restauranten, da vi kun kunne få en rabat hvis vi ønskede at spise nogle af vores i kluderede måltider der istedet for buffet-restauranten.
Der er lidt butikker og restauranter på gaden ude foran hoteller, men ikke mange. Hotellet har en fin lille butik/supermarked som har mange ting. Går man turen ind til den lille by 1,5-2 km væk er der også lidt butikker og restauranter. Man kan se at der har været en del mere tidligere og også nyt undervejs, men krisen i Grækenland har desværre gjort at meget er lukket.
Stort set alle værelser på hotellet har sol da de vender mod syd og havet. Vælger man et værelse med egen pool er der også et terrasseområde hvor man er sikret både sol og skygge hele dagen. Royal family værelserne med egen pool så virkeligt dejlige og luxoriøse ud. Man skal dog vide at der er en gangsti foran alle disse lejligheder/pools som folk kan benytte, trafikken her er dog ikke overvældende.
