Sunwing Makrigialos Beach is beautifully located on the south coast of Crete just outside the small village of Makrigialos. At the hotel you find a large pool area with great view over the sea. The pool area offers two pools, one with water slides, kids pool, a baby pool and a jacuzzi. Sunwing Makrigialos Beach offers two restaurants: a family-friendly buffet restaurant with a large selection of food and the casual Iakovo's Kitchen & Grill with local and international dishes. There is also a well-sorted Mini Market & Deli where you can buy groceries. If you are looking for an active holiday, Sunwing Makrigialos Beach, is a perfect choice. We went to Sunwing Makrigialos Beach based on our good experience with the Sunwing concept from Spies and the reviews on trip advisor. We had a Lollo and Bernie suite apartment in August 2022. The Lollo and Bernie program was great. But that was the only great thing worth mentioning. This might have a good place to stay once but we unfortunately did not have such experience. The apartment was placed in a high cellar meaning a lot of stairs and no elevator - not ideal with a stroller and small children. The cellar has a musty smell. The apartment itself had a problem with flying ants. The cleaning personnel sprayed every second day with “none poisoning” chemicals inside our bedroom and bathroom leaving an unhealthy sent and dead ants all over the floor, tables and toiletries. We were disgusted and felt very unsafe. Especially with small children in the apartment touching everything. The trays in the buffet was not cleaned and was very unsanitary. There was running cats and kittens around in the breakfast buffet- again very unsanitary. The pool chlorine levels was regulated in the morning after the pool was opened. This left the pool with areas of very high concentrations of chlorine which is again poisonous and unsafe. Normally such is to be done when the pool is closed in the evening leaving the chlorine to dissolve through the entire pool during the night. Lastly cleaning the dishes was supposed to be included in the everyday cleaning of the room. Several times we had to ask in the reception to had it done. It was all in all not a pleasant stay. We felt unsafe and we cannot recommend to stay.…

The hotel itself is very nice and situated right by some of the best beaches i have experienced in Greece. Lots of nice caves by the beach for kids to play in and shallow waters. If you have kids 2-10 years i highly recommend this place. The pools where clean and one of them had fun slides. You always found available sunchairs at the pool and at the beach. The room we stayed at was very clean and nice. Our room had a fridge, coffee/tea possibilities, microwave, AC, two televisions (never used them) and a lot of other nice features not common to a "normal" room. We had some issues with ants the first day, but the repair guys came within an hour or so and took care of it. We did not see any ants for the rest of our 14 days stay after that. The entertainment was superb in every way. There was always something going on with Lollo and Bernie through the day. There was always a dinner show too so the adults could eat in "peace" while the kids watched the show. Every night there was a themed show with song and dance. A big hit with the kids and adults as well. We planned to rent a car halfway through our 14-day trip, but never did since the kids had such a fun time at the hotel. Fun facts: - There were several nice restaurants around the hotel and a small city center with lots more 1km walking distance away. - We heard the bus trip was long (2hrs+) and this is correct. If you or your child suffers from motion sickness, be prepared since someone threw up on the way over there and on the way back to the airport. - Try walking from one beach to the other. The water was very shallow and there where fun caves for the kids to explore. There was a safe in one of the more hidden caves. Try to find it :). - The sand is very hot. Use beach-shoes when visiting the beach.…

This hotel is excellent for kids. They loved the concept and we will using the concept again, but in some other place. But the hotel - ving has bought a cheap shabby hotel. We had lollo and bernie suite and the smell that was waiting for us when we entered the corridor to get to our rooms was horrible - damp smell. AC is not good either, dampness in the room at all times. Nothing would dry in the room - just needed to put it out in order to dry. Was afraid actually to get legionella as it reminded me India where I had the same issue with hotel (damp) but lucikly here they just had the damp problem and not the bacteria. The values in Ac did neither matter anything, it just worked at standy level anyways. Not a 4 star hotel in my mind. Felt like old 60 style hotel not renovated since. However - all stars for kids entertainment. It was superb, amazing for families with kids (but the same concept you have also in other hotels that maybe are better). However our kids fell in love with lollo and bernie their new heros. And they loves the evening entertainment. Super fine beaches as well, even though it is super stormy in Crete in July, didnt know that. 2 out of our days were ruined by wind storm (could almost not go out) and there were heavy winds rest of the days as well. Food - absolutely nothing special, gets your belly full and you wont get sick but you dont go there to get a culinary experience. All in all - it was amazing holiday for kids and average one for grown ups. But since the kids are happy, are we also happy. However - since the same concept is in many hotels we would try to use some newer establishment next time. For the grown ups nice hotel rooms and not humid rooms (since outside was not humid) are important. Food we can live for a week, even though since it is a holiday, nice food would be a plus as well.…

We booked this at quite short notice with low expectations of a week in the sun when covid meant travel was hard. So happy to say it was a fantastic week for the whole familie Pool facilities were great and something for everyone. Friendly bar for drinks (all inclusive had a good choice) Kids entertainment was good fun with Lollo and Bernie. Think they could have had more things scheduled though and also for the whole family Eg games like bowls, darts etc. I also found it super strange that the entertainment took 2 days off out of 7. Can’t they have a schedule that means there are staff on every day and they have rotating days off? Evening entertainment was really good! Karin and Daniel were brilliant singers who surely should be on a bigger stage than a hotel in Crete…hope they are spotted and go on to a great career. Finally, food. Lunch and breakfast were quite repetitive but the evening themes were good and varied. Nice to have 2 nights with a local theme too. No complaints at all! The only downsides are that there wasn’t really anywhere to go outside of the hotel. It was a long bus drive to the airport so you wouldn’t really go on an excursion and the hotel is on a road with nothing but a few cafes and souvenir shops. But it didn’t matter as we were super happy in the hotel. Would recommend this hotel to any family looking for a fun week away!👏👏👏…

The good news is the place feels clean and safe for children. The service staff work very hard to please everyone. Most guests are on half board and the bartender gladly makes you feel “welcome” with free welcome drinks, or serve gin&tonics which are not part of the assortment, and all on the house to fill his own pocket with tips. Smart guy! I write this as I feel the guy with mustache “Mr. A” is making money off his employer with good jobs hard to find in Crete. My only real problem with the resort was the food. To pay top money and get a limited selection of dinner choices is sad. One local dish, one western and one vegetarian. The local dish is then served for lunch as leftovers the following day as “local special”. Having a big family we came either 6pm for dinner or 8pm. This was either before or after the rush. Ordering The western food (steak) was all over cooked. Rare and medium-well was the same.... The beverage package is a rip off. Cheap local wine. Nearly undrinkable but forgotten by the beautiful weather and stunning views. Great location, nice people, good facilities, but food and beverage 5/10…

We were two families with five kids total that stayed for 2 weeks! The staff was always friendly, specially the cleaning woman Martha. Room standard at Athina was very good, good activities for the childen, wonderful shows at the evenings. For us was makriaglos perfect place, Little bit calmer than other places we been 2, bit smaller resort, but its more than ok! Smaller= less stress. Our visit was so good that we allready planning on going back!

It’s perfect if u go with the family/small children - but it wouldn’t be My first pick if u go with your partner (a lot of children/not total stress free. Nice hotel however regarding standard of rooms etc. Big pool. Near the beach. Not that fun area though (makrigialos).

We are currently staying in this hotel in a Happy Baby room with the 11 month old baby. Imagine our horror when the animation from the next door hotel wakes our poor baby up! This is totally unacceptable! Definitely not a “happy baby”! If the hotel can’t do anything with the next hotel’s animation program noise, they should consider improving the noise isolation of the rooms. Stay away from this hotel and “happy baby” rooms!
