This place was wonderful! We were heading to Gabriola Island for the theatre, and had tickets for all three nights. And the Hummingbird had just the Calliope room left for our dates. I could never see the pictures of the room on line, even though the other two rooms worked. But at that point, I figured it had to be... More

Off the beaten path and at the end of a dead-end laneway, the Hummingbird is a wonderful place from which to tour Gabriola Island. John and Janice Raven have decorated their self-built guest lodge with hundreds of curios from Canada's Arctic including John's extended collection of both Inu and his own stone carvings. The house is built with various woods... More

Had to book late and found this little gem on the island. Great find for sure! Janice and John were friendly and welcoming from the very beginning. Our room was wonderfully decorated, spacious and quite private for a B and B. Each room has its own private balcony as well as one large communal one in the front of the... More

As you approach Hummingbird, it is hidden in the trees and just seems like another large weathered cedar home. However, upon mounting the stairs and entering the foyer, you are struck with the intriguing wood and decor throughout. This is a lodge. With plenty of room in the common area and decks facing wherever the sun roams, you are surrounded... More

My sister and I stayed in the Calliope room. It had a queen size bed and a comfortable pull-out sofa bed and its own bathroom. Pictures do not really do the lodge justice as you cannot see the size and quality of it. Also, the bedroom decor is very conservative and traditional, rather than modern, which does not photograph well.... More

My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Roufus room. This lodge is a real gem-there is beautiful art everywhere-it all feels so spacious and inviting. Janice and John are gracious and gentle hosts. The breakfasts are sumptuous, healthy and delicious. For us coming from our busy jobs, perhaps the greatest treat was the silence. You can sit... More

We spent 5 nights in the Rufous room- very spacious, big deck , and quiet. We had full access to the top floor of the lodge with another huge communal deck, lots of couches, kitchen and fridge. Decorated in gorgeous Inuit artwork and world art . Gracious hosts Janice and John. Excellent breakfasts with homemade cereals, jams, bread, garden fruit... More

We stayed at the Hummingbird B&B last summer for one night and loved it so much that we came back for 4 days this July. It is located on a quiet road but close to walking paths that take you to beautiful beaches. Janice is an organic farmer and has a beautiful garden and orchids. Her breakfasts were very tasty!... A writer friend and I recently stayed at the Hummingbird Lodge for a writers' retreat. There are three roomy private rooms on the top floor, each with ensuites, comfortable beds, and private decks and desks by big windows. Solid wifi. Delicious breakfasts are organic, with produce from the garden (gluten-free on request). We were surrounded by Inuit art, drawings, crafts... More

The Hummingbird Lodge is located off the beaten track on an island where there are no truly beaten tracks. If you approach the lodge around sunset, watch out for deer (and their fawns) for they are plentiful in the woods and clear spaces near the road. The lodge itself is spacious, bright, and very attractive, made entirely of wood from... More
