I’m a bit late on this review, but our experience is fresh in my mind. My husband and I had an amazing vacation at Unico 2087 November 2023, and overall we could not be happier about our experience. As Legendary Hall of Fame members, we have always enjoyed the affiliated Hard Rock and Unico resorts, and we visit Unico 1-2 times/year. It’s our favorite adults only resort.

We stayed in an Alto Ocean View King in building 1, and we loved it. We’ve stayed in both swim up and ocean view rooms and overall prefer the top level ocean view. This visit they didn’t have a top floor available in that building so we were on the 3rd floor. It was still a wonderful view, but we had to deal with loud and noisy movement of furniture above us many days. We love the location of building one as it has a wonderful view to us (you can see and hear the ocean and see lush greenery) and it’s close to the HOF member pool. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated, clean, and I love the aroma therapy (although housekeeping is sometimes inconsistent with refilling the diffuser every day). We did have an issue not getting turn down service twice and didn’t have the do not disturb ball on the door. However, our butler looked into it.

The property is not that big which we like because we go to Unico to relax and have time to connect and recharge with each other. For those who enjoy a relaxing and chill vibe with amazing food and drinks, this is the place. They don’t have the best shows/entertainment/nightlife compared to Hard Rock Riveria Maya and other properties, but overall they have options for entertainment, games, classes, and you can always go off property for an excursion. If you just want to relax it will be perfect for you. We really do love the entertainment staff, they are great and we always enjoy going to the dance classes and watching them at the pool. A must do class is the mixology class. We did one a couple years ago and learned so much and on this trip we did the Legendary member mixology class and that was fun. They had food for us and Luis teaches you so much. He’s an amazing mixologist with high standards. 

One thing that stands out for us and keeps us returning is the food. For a resort of its size, we are more than happy with the options. This trip we didn’t eat at Cueva Siete and didn’t feel like we missed out, although I could have gone just for the Myan Coffee- a must to try. We were slightly disappointed that the menu changed at the Italian restaurant, but heard they reverted back to it recently. The pizza there was good, we were very happy with that. They also have great breakfast if you don’t want buffet at 2087. Our favorite restaurant is Mura House. We’ve had the teppanyaki before but prefer ordering off the menu as there are lots of delicious options. Food, drinks, and service are fantastic at the restaurants and all the restaurants have been very accommodating for allergies/dietary restrictions. In the past we would skip 2087 as a dinner option but glad we didn’t this time. We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner choices and ate there a second time. The ribeye and pork dish were amazing. Cafe Inez is another favorite and over the last few years we look forward to seeing the staff who are working hard to serve and take of everyone.

We only use the HOF members pool because that’s our favorite and we can still see what’s going on at the main pool. The beach isn’t big and depending on what time of year you go the seaweed can be bad (not the resort’s fault, check for that when you plan your trip if it matters). No issue with it on this trip. It’s nice to sit out or walk the beach. We’ve never gone into the water to swim here like we do on other beach vacations. We save our long beach days hanging out in the water when we take the kids to Hard Rock Punta Cana, so we don’t feel like we miss out here. It may not work for everyone but we enjoy just relaxing and watching the ocean so the beach isn’t an issue for us.

A special shout-out goes to our butlers, Israel and Elena. Their service was amazing, and greatly appreciated. From making dinner reservations, spa reservations, securing our pool chairs/cabana, sending activity list, getting our in-room HOF drink bottles and special cocktails when requested, and checking up on us at the pool/beach, they ensured we were well taken care of. If we needed anything and reached out on WhatsApp, they took care of it. We spent the most time with Israel as our main butler and he truly made us feel like family. It makes you feel valued when people take the time to chat and make sure you have what you need to enjoy the most out of your vacation.

Unico is our favorite adults only resort and we look forward to our next trip the we just booked for spring 2024. The wonderful staff, accommodations, great food and drinks, and the atmosphere of complete relaxation make it an unbeatable option.

Beautiful resort with the pools and the beach right there. The resort is al inclusive which is great so you don’t have to carry any money with you. The pools are big and they have the big floating objects to sit on if you like. The weather so so when we went so I made the best of it and hung out at the cafe or the bar. The restaurants have buffet breakfast and I liked the one attached to the resort better for more options. I will say the restaurant I liked more was the main restaurant we went to every day but they didn’t understand cross contamination because I had asked them to clean the crepe grill so my son who’s allergic to Peanuts & Hazelnuts and they didn’t understand and I spoke to the manager who spoke English but still they didn’t understand why so the end result is I didn’t let my son have anything off that crepe grill or there deserts. The bar tenders were fun men who wanted to please me and make me a drink that I would like I think I got 4 drinks from the bar outside and then more from the guys inside the resort at the bar but still there drinks were not to my liking but they were happy to keep on trying but I stopped at the ninth drink and gave up on alcohol drinks there. The cafe was great and they were all friendly and the manager knew exactly my order it was either caramel or hazelnut latte. There sandwiches were amazing and they made something different for my son that they didn’t have which was great. We were given special gift from the wellness centre it was different options so I chose the lavender Epson salts. I tried the workout area one or 2 times it was ok. The gallery store is pricey but we got a cute print of someone whose a local painter and I was surprised it was really inexpensive. The rooms were very spacious and a nice veranda with a couch on it. The tub outside was nice and big but they said not to be outside because the bugs bite you at night so when it was getting dark and I was feeling getting bit I went inside but I must say they had a wooden thing to hold my wine glass while I was in the tub. The snacks that they come and fill up we’re amazing and the guy gave us extra what we really liked. I only left the resort to go on a Tulum excursion but from what I saw it’s the nicest there.

The resort was very clean, great, courteous staff all around. Food was Excellent. We truly enjoyed the hospitality of our assigned assistance, Ms. Kristel. She went far and beyond to make vacation memorable, thank you Kristel. We also enjoyed the chefs who took delights in making sure we enjoyed every meal, thank you chefs for your dedication cooking and making five stars food. We will be back! A shout out for the spa (hydrotherapy staff) we enjoyed your daily spa treatment for rejuvenation, we absolutely loved it. Our room was always clean and treated for ultimate comfort, I loved the sweet/healthy aromatherapy smell of our room and all inside the whole the Resort, it made us feeling safe from virus. I would definitely recommend the Resort to our friends and families because their excellent staffing, excellent food, excellent spa amenities, beautiful large and small pools, and the size of the resort.

Our least like about the Resort was their Ocean Front rooms are not actually Ocean Front, rather the rooms are "plantation front" as the ocean was only visible through the tree top foulage. The extra charge for the so called Ocean Front was deceptive and annoying. Lastly, we believe the Resort needs some improvement of the property.

Everything was great! We’ve been to Mexico several times and really enjoyed our stay at Unico. If your looking for a party place this is not it. They don’t have a club and the live Dj seems to leave early in the evening. If you are looking to relax and just have peace and quiet this is it. The service is excellent and the lobby bar was our favorite! It was such a large group of us and everyone was pleased. No complaints. If you want to be closer to the action of the city I would recommend staying closer to the hotel zone in Cancun you will be close to everything. Unico is definitely about 30 mins from the closest town/city. Room service was never disappointing and everything was delicious, they have a great menu. Restaurants were delicious as well. I recommend you pre-book your hibachi grill table if you are planning on going to that restaurant because they are booked completely and due to social distancing they are not operating all hibachi stations. Oh and you must try the lobster rice, it is amazing!!! If your ok with eating at a normal table you are fine no need for reservation for hibachi. Most of there restaurants are walk-in welcome and they are alternating what restaurants are open on what nights due to Covid. All staff was excellent very professional and nice. They all wore masks and had hand sanitizer on hand. Most of us had massages and they were great, I highly recommend there spa. The ladies had magic hands. When you get your room you will find your hats as a welcome gift. They have a hand painter drawing on them what you wish to personalize them for you. The room was spectacular, very clean and you can customize your welcome mini bar through the app prior to arrival. Overall we will be back!

We read a tremendous amount of positive reviews on the Unico Facebook page so chose this resort over all others. Unfortunately, our opinion has been mixed. First, the positives. Mario, our server two nights at the Unico 20 87 Grill, was outstanding. We specifically chose to eat at Unico 20 87 a second night just so we could sit at his table. A wonderful guy and tremendous server! By far, Mario was the most positive experience of our stay. The spa was also excellent. We did the couples cacao massage and hydrotherapy, and it was worth every penny, and then some. Everyone at the spa was professional and friendly. The rooms and resort grounds are immaculate. This is definitely a beautiful, well-kept resort, and the relatively small size gave it a somewhat intimate feel.

As for the negatives, we simply didn't see the level of service we'd expect at a resort of this caliber. From the pool servers to the beach servers, we were puzzled by the lack of attentiveness for a resort with this reputation. We would literally watch as they hovered near the bar, making eye contact but never bothering to stop by until we got up to get our own drinks. I should mention we are not high maintenance whatsoever. We have simply experienced better service at other resorts in the area of hosts, pool service, and beach service. We were disappointed in our host, unfortunately, since it seemed he could do little more than we could do ourselves on the Unico app. Thank goodness there was Mario at Unico 20 87 Grill and a few other random employees with very positive attitudes to average out the service I'd describe as just "decent".

We had a wonderful experience. The resort is modern, fresh, clean and quiet. Service was impeccable all around. Sanitation was good. Upon arrival your luggage is wiped down and hand sanitizer offered. All staff is wearing masks (even if you work at the pool or on the beach) and wearing them correctly. Surfaces were cleaned regularly in common areas and tables were wiped prior to dinner guest arrivals.

Some stand out negative comments, although it didn't really impact my overall opinion of my experience are:
Some things at the resort seem to have taken quite a bit of abuse in the short period it’s been opened. We had a swim up room and tiles were missing along the whole length of the pool, tiles had even fallen off the shared wall onto our neighbor one afternoon. The general construction of the pools and hot tub, missing plaster, uneven tiles, just shotty and quick construction. Not too bothersome, but noticeable.
Room service is abysmal. It will either show up 30 min early, 30-1hour late, or without items you ordered. I used the app to order room service (you may have better luck using the daily order sheet and placing it on your door in the evening). You are able to review your room service order (items and time requested prior to “approving”) but no confirmation is sent- either in the mobile app alerts, or via email.

My husband and I stayed at Unico 4 nights for our honeymoon at the end of August and had the best time! It was our first time in Mexico, and our first time at an all-inclusive resort, and I think we picked the best one on the first try!

The food at each of the restaurants was delicious and 5-star quality. We were told that some restaurants were closed at different times of day for various meals because the resort is at 30% capacity for COVID, but we didn't notice the closures. There are still so many good options! The only thing I would say is to make your dinner reservations on your first day there so that you make sure you get into the smaller restaurants, like the Japanese and Italian ones.

The service at every step of the way was phenomenal. Upon arriving, they hand you a welcome drink and explain the layout and features of the resort. They also assign you 1 person as your "local host" who helps you with EVERYTHING from dinner, spa, and fitness center reservations, to having mixology drinks sent up to your room, to preparing the jacuzzi tub on your balcony. Our local host was Adriano and he was extremely accommodating and helpful throughout our stay. He would message me the hotel events each morning through WhatsApp and if we ever needed anything, we could just message him and ask!

The app that the hotel has is also very helpful in seeing everything they have to offer, and I recommend downloading it and familiarizing yourself before you go so you know what the offerings are and can make any reservations or book any excursions/spa treatments/ fitness classes on the day you arrive. We were interested in the Unico Tulum Snorkeling Excursion, but didn't know the days they ran it until our 2nd day there during our planning meeting with a member of their concierge staff. At that point, we had missed signing up because the excursion ran that day and on the day we were to fly out. So plan ahead!

The ocean floor off of Unico is a bit rocky, so we enjoyed walking the beach a few times, but most of our time was spent in one of their 3 pools, which also had excellent food and beverage service.

We were curious to see how everything would work with COVID, and I was impressed with how the resort kept everything clean. They disinfected our shoes and luggage and took our temperature with a camera on arrival, which I appreciated. All the staff wore masks at all times which made me feel safe.

I highly recommend Unico 20 87!

We had an amazing first trip to Unico 2087. This is our 8th trip to Cancun/Cozumel Area and Unico is by far the nicest resort we have stayed at.
First, Unico takes cleaning and your safety during COVID very seriously. We felt absolutely comfortable to enjoy our week without any concerns of getting sick. The moment we stepped out of our private transfer, cleaned our shoes, had our temperature read and stepped into the lobby We were met by reception, told we were free to remove our masks and given a welcome drink while they did the checkin on a lobby couch, very relaxing.
We had a Swim up room in building 1 that we absolutely loved, I swam every night before bed. Building 1 provided a lot of privacy compared to what we saw at the other buildings
Our local host was Pascual and he was amazing. He went over and above everyday to make sure that we had the best stay. He found us at the quiet pool everyday, checked to see if we needed anything, made all of our dinner reservations, ironed clothes as needed, decorated our room and We got to know him on a personal level.
We spent most of our days at the quiet pool. There are resorts with larger pools and meandering “rivers” in them but this pool felt like a quiet sanctuary to us. Alejandro Mendoza was great setting up our chairs and towels everyday and bringing us fresh towels throughout each day. Jose, Saul and Marco “Chicken” were our servers/bartenders and they were all amazing, they knew what we liked to drink and the kept our yetis tumblers full all day. We could not have asked for better service and friendly people to help us enjoy a much needed week to relax. We met so many great people at the pool and had wonderful conversations. These new friends will be friends for life.
Now for the food and drink.
Pascual made sure that we had our mixology in our room everyday when we got back from the pool that we could have before our siesta. Always something different and very good.
I love Pacifico beer so Pascual made sure they changed our the Corona for Pacifico in our room fridge.
The alcohol was premium and you just asked for what you wanted. No bottles in the room but room service would bring you what ever you wanted. I believe I drank every bottle of Hendricks they had onsite!
My wife enjoyed many different spicy margaritas with different tequilas and Mescals
The food was absolutely amazing. Seafood Risotto, Sushi, Duck Tacos and tacos and ceviches by the pool. Service was great at all!

Arrived by small air conditioned bus and ride was good. Upon arrival was greeted by great staff and with welcome drinks and a cold towel. Check in was easy and quick. Arrived at our room which was clean and luxurious and perfect in every way you want your vacation room to look.

The grounds are very well manicured and there is a variety of beautiful tropical plants throughout the resort. The resort is kept very clean. It’s an absolutely beautiful resort. We enjoyed watching all the tropical birds.

The restaurants are all great and service is excellent.

Wifi is amazing and you can connect easily everywhere.

Drinks are all very good. We tried many :)

What makes this resort extraordinary is the people. You truly feel welcomed on the resort and every staff member is happy to help at all times. From service at the pools, restaurants, beach - to service in your room in every way the staff truly want to make your stay memorable and they go beyond what you usually find at a resort.

Room service is very good and quick. The server sets up your meal in the room with small little touches that makes it feel special every time.

The maids clean the room to an immaculate condition and we were never left needing anything. Everything was restocked including our particular requests for additional chocolates.

A very special thank you to our concierge Pascal for making this the best trip we have ever had. From touching base with us every day, arranging bookings at restaurants to arranging special room service requests including special drinks waiting for us at 4 pm every day. He went out of his way to make us feel like we were his only clients and we appreciate everything he did to make this trip excellent in every way.

We have travelled all over the world and stayed at over 20 different 5 star resorts and Unico has been our best experience. We met many couples here who say they have come here often. It’s the first time we stayed at a resort wanting to come back asap.

With every vacation there is usually something negative to mention but not at Unico. I sincerely cannot say a single negative thing about this great resort.

Again, every staff we met here have been truly hospitable and accommodating with every aspect of our care and comfort. They make the difference indeed and a huge thank you for everything.

We will come back guaranteed.

From beginning to end our experience at Unico was incredible! I visited with my mom as an early birthday trip, and from the moment we got there we were blown away. First of all, we felt more safe there than we do at home. When you arrive they sanitize they vehicle, then take your temperature, wipe down your bags, and you walk on a mat that sanitizes your shoes. They then give you hand sanitizer and welcome you into the most incredible smelling lobby. They invite you to sit down and give you the refreshing welcome drink while they get you checked in, and you get to pick an aromatherapy scent for your room. We were then taken to our room which was stunning. We were able to get the Ocean front Estancia Suite and it was just like the pictures, if not better!! They also decorated the bed for my birthday, which was such a wonderful surprise! The food and drinks were all the best “hotel food” I’ve ever had. I felt like I was eating at a 5 star restaurant every night. I definitely suggest trying the signature drinks. There are so many great options, but I’m a sucker for a margarita, and theirs are fantastic, so I stuck with that most of the trip. The grounds are stunning, and with the pandemic they are only about 30% occupied so there was even more of a personal touch. Now for my shoutouts: our local host, Rodrigo kept great communication and help arrange a taxi to go visit a Cenote(amazing!!). He texted me about a last minute opening for the hibachi grill because I mentioned the day before that we were interested in it, but at the time it was booked. Each day he found us to check in on us, and responded quickly to anything we needed.
Victor Mejia at the Unica pool is the best!!!! He’s so friendly and fun, and worked so hard. We really appreciated him, and he even brought us special drinks. You’re awesome, Victor!!
Venancio in the 20.87 restaurant is so sweet! He was our waiter the first morning, and then the second morning he was bussing tables, but he saw that our mimosas were empty and brought us new ones. Excellent service!
All of the staff at Unico is extremely attentive, going out of their way to make sure the guests are comfortable and enjoying themselves. We will definitely be back!!

Did you mean to say the Tulum airport?? Cozumel is an island across from the mainland of the Riviera Maya!! You would have to take a ferry from the Cozumel airport to get back to the mainland and then continue with a transfer from there to the resort. The Tulum airport just opened in Dec. Not all international airlines fly into there yet (there is only one terminal) and if they do, the flights are limited. Airlines that do fly there, their flights are usually out of large hub cities and not every day of the week either. Check for what airlines fly out of your nearest departure airport to see if they even service Tulum. The most time you'll save is like ten minutes. The transfers from the Tulum airport are also much more expensive than they are out of Cancun airport. Do all the research and the math to see which airport would be better. 16 minutes ago

Ummmmmmmm.......the resort is in the jungle! It's a tropical location. There are all sorts of native animals, a monkey or two, birds, and insects! Yes insects can enter the room. No guarantee that they won't! The monkey won't unless you invite him! LOL!

There are 5 floors to the resort. Unless you get a higher floor, it won't make much difference of it's Ocean Front or Ocean View. Ocean Front are in buildings that directly face the water. Ocean View has a slight slanted view as the shape of the building is in a horseshoe shape and those are located on the sides of the curve. There is a new room level there called "Alto" rooms. Check that out on their resort website. It guarantees that you'll be booked on their top (5th floor) .
