Looking for an out of the way location, this is your place! The accommodations are basic but the service and food are exceptional! We spent 6 days fly fishing, took an afternoon off to snorkel and all were amazing experiences!

We were driving around Xcalak and just happened upon this place. We ended up staying for 2 nights. Great ocean front cabanas. We did a full day fishing trip as well. Reasonably priced. The local guide was very helpful and took us to some great spots. We were able to take out kayaks and explore on our own as well.... More

Way off the beaten track folks! This hotel is a set of really basic, primitive, bungalows all situated on a gorgeous piece of property next to a beach. The bungalows have no AC, but have ceiling fans right over the bed. They're clean but simple. I slept beautifully. The bar is a lot of fun. The owner distills his own... More

We did not stay at this hotel but the first night after arriving at our B&B Sin Duda Villas we were told that Costa De Cocos delivered Pizza. That was a really big convenience as we didn't want to go back out and drive that evening. The food arrived approx. 30 minutes after ordering. It was nice and hot. We... More

Dave & Ilana Randall have been in the Xcalak hospitality game for decades & they have figured out how to make it work extremely well. Although I had been coming to Xcalak for years, I had never stayed there until recently. The palapa-roofed cabanas are clean, dry, well-ventilated, and everything you desire in an end-of-the-road Mexican fishing village. Great bar,... More

We stayed at a nearby vacation rental and came to Cocos to have drinks and pizza. We have a meat lover and a shrimp pizza. Both were very good. We love the whisky crafted by the restaurant so much that we bought two extra bottles to bring back home. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seatings right in front... More

We stayed at a small hotel further up the beach, however we made the trek down over the bumpy road one evening for dinner at Costa de Cocos as our hosts recommended it. We shared the chicken wings as an appetizer and they were good & crispy and came with a dipping sauce I believe (yes, we had chicken wings... More

Xcalak does not pretend to be a lively, action packed resort - and it isn't. It is quiet and sleepy (everywhere is closed by 2130!) and an hour from the next sign of civilisation. What it does offer is a warm welcome, an escape from telephone signal, intermittent wifi, a break from TV, roads with more potholes than road, real... More

Xcalak is a town of about 300, only kilometres from the Belize border. We stayed at Playa Sonrisa, an CO resort on the same road. Cocos is the ONLY restaurant in Xcalak that is open predictable. The jalapeño popper are to die for, unfortunately, they were only available on one of our three visits. We booked a tour to Bird... More

We went here for a family friends birthday party dinner. Great bar and outdoor dining right on the water. I had the shrimp Tacos that are not featured in the menu, you have to ask. There is craft beer and craft spirits brewed on site. There is fresh pizza baked in a Mayan pizza oven. There are activities and lodging... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Costa de Cocos is about immersing yourself in nature, while relaxing in a hammock suspended under palm trees, enjoying an ice cold beverage on our patio, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, traveling along the coast in a kayak, or touring the surrounding landscape on foot, observing our local flora and fauna. From our shore you will observe numerous juvenile fish in the shallows, while multiple species of shorebirds feed along the coast. All you hear is the gentle roar of waves breaking on the nearby reef, all you feel is the warm sun and a gentle breeze blowing across your skin. You are surrounded by turquoise waters and dense jungle and mangroves. No skyscrapers, crowds, or cell phones.Costa de Cocos offers a truly unique experience on the frontier of Mexico. Our environmentally friendly resort has much to offer those who seek to experience life off the beaten path. We are located within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Xcalak). The closest gas station and ATM are 30 miles (50 km) away, and the closest sizable town, Chetumal, is a distant 130 miles (200 km). Power is provided by the sun, with a generator backup. No square concrete rooms here, you will stay in a private Mayan-style beach bungalow with attached bathroom and shower. You will dine in our shore-front restaurant and bar, with wood decor and thatched roof.During your stay you can go fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, experience guided bird tours, kayak along the coast, visit Mayan ruins, travel to nearby towns and museums, and visit Belize. We are located five hours south of Cancun and three hours north of Chetumal. Belize and Ambergris Caye are located only a few short miles to the south. We have a wireless Internet connection, but no cell or land-line phone service. The nearby village of Xcalak offers very little in the way of shopping and nightlife. If you are looking for sandy beaches, shopping, and an active night life, it it best not to choose us. ... more   less
