Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Travelling alone I got a twin room in the annexe. The bedding was basic - just a fitted sheet and thin duvet in winter. The small bathroom was clean and modern but the towels were thin.

I didn't take breakfast at the £10 extra but was offered a bacon sandwich which went down very well.

Overall it met my needs.

Very dated with bedding and towels that should be in a museum. Room could be so much nice and appealing with out much spend, just needs a fluffy white duvet and pillows. Bathroom is poor, shower spreads all over the floor due to antique shower curtain! No shower gel so had to use hand wash. Could be so much more inviting. If I were the owners I’d spend 1 night in there as a guest.

Was there 4 nights. Night 1 , kettle, tea etc but no mug or spoon - or glass for water. Window didn’t open and no ventilation even in the bathroom. Room very noisy with people and plumbing. Day 2, still no mug or glass, obviously no housekeeping visit, noticed there was no bin in the room. Day 3, very humid so very bad sleep with no fresh air, woke up for work on time and nearly late as some duckhead had blocked in my car in, had to move heavy barrel to get car out as well go across a verge and down a curb in heavy rain. Big car park and not full, drunk driver? Day 4, order food, sit down and get asked to move as all tables are to be used for a poker night. Absolutely not worth £100 a night and won’t be coming back. Would have given 0 stars but the staff were helpful and friendly. I travel a lot for businesses and this is one of the worst.

Had the wake for my father here and was so pleased that we did. The room looked lovely with table clothes and chair covers and the food was excellent. I was a little apprehensive as I’d not been to the pub in many years prior to this, but they were happy to make us some samples in advance and on the day the food was excellent! Plentiful, high quality (the bread was fresh and delicious) and a great selection. They took on board our comments in making sure there was simple food for the children and catering beautifully for the quite specific diertaryrequirements. Both hot and cold food was nicely presented and the owners couldn’t do enough for us. A great price too. Would definitely recommend it to other people needing a midsized function room for a similar purpose.

Booked a room for one night a the Chequers, it was a very cold evening, upon my arrival my room was freezing, I had to walk all the way around to the front of the building in a blustery rainy cold dark evening to ask the attendant to switch the only radiator in the room on. They hadn't bothered to do so prior to my arrival which was around roughly 19.00 hours. I then had to sit on the bed fully clothed, with an extra jumper for a good hour until the room warmed up.
The toilet/shower room had a very unpleaseant smell, the towels were old and very small, it was a bad experience and not worth half the money I paid for.
This is a place to avoid at all costs.

I recently booked a room here for an overnight stay whilst in the area for a funeral.
I can say honestly that the whole place from pub to rooms was just filthy. The room we were given was a double and single bedroom but the room was tiny. The ceiling had incredibly low beams making a small room even smaller.
The beds had very old linen and the room smelt damp. The window was locked shut so we couldn't even air the room. In the room there are no facilities to speak of. Two cracked and dirty mugs but no kettle. An iron but no board.
There was no carpet on the floor and all the walls were dirty. Bathroom was full of mould and stank.
We sought the staff to see if we could change rooms but the one staff member didn't speak English so we couldn't even do that.
It was too late for us to book anywhere else so we resigned ourselves to stay one night and leave the next morning.
We tried ordering two drinks from the staff but she got both drinks wrong and they came in a glass that was filthy. I rang the hotel to try and talk to a manager as the one woman who was there who didn't speak English became grumpy with us for complaining but it was she who answered the phone and just said I don't speak English again.
Due to the state of the pub we decided not to have breakfast and left at first light the next day.
The rooms look nothing like what is on the website so be warned and avoid at all costs.

We chose this venue to hold a wake on Saturday 16th July 2022 for my dear loving brother-in-law Roy who sadly passed away on 25th June 2022. The funeral service was held at Chilterns Crematorium which is only a few minutes drive from the Chequers Inn in Amersham. My wife and I contacted and visited the venue prior and were met with the landlord Ciprian and his wife Nadia. They made us feel very welcome and organised the most wonderful Wake, which was really a celebration of life for Roy. The food was prepared on the day and was not only delicious but there was plenty to go round and such a large variety too. Ciprian was very accomodating setting up a large TV screen in the function room and allowing us to play our own music playlist on their music system. Nothing was too much trouble for them. At times like this you are desperate to find a venue which will meet your requirements, but to find the people as supportive and accomodating as Ciprian and Nadia was a bonus. Thank you both and all your staff for looking after us and all who attended on the day. We had nothing but praise from everyone as to how well everything was organised and carried out on the day. We are most grateful for making a very sad day transpire into a much lighter and happier event. We will certainly return here one day for a meal and a few drinks for sure.
Well done and thank you again!

Excellent location B&B. Basic, clean and good value for money. We booked 3 rooms for our family gathering and couldn't get a better service. Owners were very considerate for our needs.TV in one of the rooms didn't work on arrival but replaced later in the day. We will use them again

My husband and I booked to stay one night only - thank goodness- at this pub.
The room was cold , the bedding was tired and shabby to say the least, the sheets didn’t even fit the beds , see photos. The towels were frayed as was the bath mat .
For £99 I felt was a complete rip off .

Stayed here for one night. Chippy was very helpful and dealt with my continuing changing needs. We were a group of 10, travelling to a family party. We were able to check in early and walk back from the venue. The rooms are small but fine for one night only.
