Myself and a colleague visited the hotel for an afternoon tea and work meeting.
We were greeted by a gentleman called dean who allowed us to choose a table of our liking and came and took our orders immediately , i do not eat meat only fish so changing the sandwiches were important so went i asked if this could be done it was without any trouble at all.

through out the service we were served by 2 more gentleman , one of which i assume was the bar manager which sadly i did not get his name but was very attentive and kind. and the second was a young male that made sure our drinks were topped up through out.

The afternoon tea was delicious and had great generous selections of sandwiches cakes and scones , we were stuffed so couldn't eat everything but were kindly allowed to take the cakes away with us to have later with a cup of tea at work.

Dean once again was very attentive, kind and approachable despite being busy with lots of guests to serve, so please pass on my complements to his service
this gentleman was young with brown hair and a beard.

since this day i have returned on a number of occasions for work meetings i still get a 10/10 service :)

Thank you once again
from a very full and satisfied Natalie

Having organised a school reunion at the Bull last year, I was on their mailing list for special offers, and this offer seemed too good to miss - just £99 for 2 people to stay 2 nights including breakfast, AND on arrival a food credit of £99! We booked it there and then.
The Bull is clean and comfortable, the staff are all polite, friendly and very efficient. The public areas are very inviting.
Our bedroom was lovely, the biggest bed I've ever seen - wider than it was long! Two comfortable armchairs and table, dressing table, plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. There was even a fridge with complimentary bottled water and soft drinks!
We had invited friends to join us for dinner on the Saturday night, there was a special buffet in the restaurant which we decided to have as we all like buffet food. It really was excellent!
On the Sunday night we ate in the conservatory area and the food was also excellent - we both had grilled halloumi to start, then my husband had a "posh" burger and chips, and I had honey and orange chicken.
Unfortunately we'd chosen the weekend of storm Ciara so the weather on the Sunday was appalling, and all the things we'd planned to do had been cancelled and the National Trust properties were closed, so we'll have to come back another time, when we receive another great offer!

This hotel is luxurious. My Grand King room had a whirlpool bath, separate rainfall shower and a large balcony overlooking the gardens. The room itself was very spacious with two lounging chairs and a sofa too. The free breakfast included with the rate was delicious. I highly recommend the full English! Great service throughout my stay from the restaurant, reception to room service.

Visited with family (5 people, including 2 x children) for afternoon tea on a Sunday.
Lovely atmosphere, very nice indoor and outdoor surroundings, spacious tables with large, comfortable luxury chairs, modern but classic interior, pristine crockery, perfect for afternoon tea, there is light music playing in the background.
Staff were very polite, welcoming and helpful.
Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.

Sandwiches were very nice and fresh, 4 x finger sandwiches per person, with crusts removed. Well filled, smoked salmon, egg, ham & mustard and cucumber & cream cheese, maybe 1 or 2 ‘more’ finger sandwiches would be nice.
We slightly amended some sandwich flavours for the children, which was no problem.

Champagne was very cold and crisp, perfection!

Tea and coffee was nice, although you do have to ask if you’d like like another cup, as the coffee is not served in a cafetière, which I think would be nicer.

Scones were lovely, warm, served with clotted cream and mini pots of strawberry jam, possibly an assortment of flavoured jams would be a nice addition.
Mini cake selection of chocolate cake (delicious), Victoria sponge and pecan pie also come with the cream tea.

Lots of parking available outside, including disabled.

A lovely day out, with nice seating outside on the patio with beautiful grounds.

Fifty years ago, when my parents lived locally, The Bull was their favourite restaurant , and when we moved away, was their choice of hotel when they came back to visit; it was therefore the obvious place for us to stay when, as a family, we came in my father’s 90th year to take a trip down memory lane and go to the place he was born.

The Bull did not let us down, and we had a perfect stay. Our rooms ( 1 double and 1 twin) were spacious and clean, with very comfortable beds. Bedrooms are not routinely cleaned during a stay, but can be done on request. This suited us, and requests for ‘top ups’ of toiletries and drinks were quickly met.

We ate in the bar restaurant on both nights, and the food was really excellent, and although the menu is not extensive, there is a good choice and the food is cooked fresh with good quality ingredients and portion sizes are very generous. I have a very restricted diet, and I was impressed by how helpful the staff were, happy to make any adjustments I requested.

Breakfast was spot on- the restaurant was well organised and there was a very good choice, and again the ingredients were really good quality.

But the thing that really made our stay such a positive experience were the staff; from the moment we arrived until the time we left, every member of staff we encountered was friendly, professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and even as we were leaving, one of the maintenance staff spotted us and insisted on carrying our bags to the car.

There were so many thoughtful touches; after our first night in the restaurant, we reserved the same table for the following evening. When we popped in for some lunch, the bar manager mentioned that he’d kept the table for us, but had noticed that a large party would be sat near us and we might prefer a different table with better acoustics. The waiters had also noticed that the dining chair was a bit low for my mother, and on the second night had, without needing to be asked replaced the normal chair with something higher.

We were especially impressed by the friendliness and care given to us by Tino, Alistair and Angus, who despite being very busy, always had time to have a chat and were very friendly and helpful. Also their colleague, who organised our change of dining table, who’s name I didn’t get, but who mentioned he has worked at The Bull for three years and was clearly very proud of being part of the team and was an excellent ambassador for the hotel.

I would completely recommend The Bull, we are planning another trip next year to the area next Spring and we will definitely be staying here.

How lovely for you as a family to be able to revisit the area where your father was born, and the hotel where your parents favourite restaurant was. What a special and lovely trip down memory lane. What an amazing deal! £99.00 two nights bed and breakfast, but you get £99.00 back in credit for your evening meals. What’s not to like. This hotel is great, the staff, service and food are amazing. Can’t speak highly enough of the place. The hotel is spotless, our room was serviced immaculately, free soft drinks in the bedroom fridge. You won’t be disappointed. I thought last week I’d had some good food, but this is on par. The staff are very friendly and obliging, and can’t do enough for you. Part of Sarova hotel group. If this is what this hotel can serve up, other hotels in this group should be worth a visit.

The old original part of the building has been somewhat subsumed by the addition of large and modern annexes, killing the traditional nature of this hotel. I had been allocated a room at the far end of the annnexe and it was quite a distance along three sides of a square to reach the room at the end. The desire to cram as many rooms as possible around what must have been an elegant hotel/pub back in the day has ruined the character of it a little. The food and drink were of a decent standard, as was the breakfast. I was staying on business so really it was just somewhere to kip down, so from that aspect it was OK. Rooms were comfortable and not too noisy. the bathrooms were clean. Not fantastic, but not terrible. Would want to try other venues befor returning

We have visited The Bull many times and in fact lived just around the corner for many years, so finding ourselves in this position is disappointing to say the least.

We stayed overnight with our small well behaved dog. The Bull is advertised as dog friendly.
IT IS NOT DOG FRIENDLY! At the very best it is dog tolerated.

On arrival we were given a room that simply had not been refurbished for many years I am guessing 20years (whenever dark brown furniture was last in fashion) with a very small pokey dark bathroom. We had previously stayed in nice modern rooms so this was quite a shock, was it because we had a dog with us?

We had been travelling all day so wanted to go in the bar for a drink before dinner, only to be stopped immediately on entering and told sorry no dogs in the bar. So no drink unless we sat in the cold reception area.

We went back to our room but it was so depressing we thought we would go downstairs to eat where surely we would be offer a table in the bar.

NO!

We had to have our evening meal in the reception where the main door constantly opened with a stream of people wanting to check in, which they did within 3/5 feet of where we were eating, the rest of reception was taken up with people waiting for a taxi or waiting for friends these people were no more than 2/3 feet from us. We felt uncomfortable, cold and miserable.

The Bull then sent us a ‘How did we do’ questionnaire which I took the time to fill in, but surprise there was no response.

I urge the owners of The Bull to realise that in 2023 many people travel with their dogs and are a valuable income stream to the hospitality industry.

However, as they obviously haven’t taken part in the general trend to welcome dogs, we have voted with our feet and stayed for a similar amount of money at The Crown Plaza down the road, more modern, more accommodating, and DOG FRIENDLY!

We have just come back from afternoon tea, the food was very good but the surroundings left a lot to be desired. We had booked for 2.15 and when we arrived the place was packed with a wedding party. We had to wait for three quarters of an hour for a table, as I am 86 and it was a birthday treat it was very uncomfortable. When we eventually got a table it was still noisy until the wedding party went. I suggest they don’t serve afternoon tea on a Saturday or let people know it will be crowded and noisy.

Dear Saveylady Thank you for taking the time to review The Bull Hotel, following your recent visit for afternoon tea. I am delighted that you describe the food as very good. Please accept my apologies for the delay experienced upon your arrival. Usually the team do avoid taking larger bookings for afternoon tea, when a wedding is also scheduled to be using the lounge. I am sorry that you were kept waiting and that the public areas were busy with the wedding party. I do hope that this isolated incident will not deter you from returning to the hotel in the future. Thank you for taking the time to share your constructive feedback. Belatedly, on behalf of everyone at The Bull we would like to wish a very Happy Birthday.
